"through the darkness of future past, the magician longs to see, one chants out between two worlds "fire, walk with me". best quote over. s'why i got it tattooed :D
It wasn't all of Season Two that sucked, just after they solved Laura's murder. The show lost its drive, and, unfortunately, its charm. The ethereal concepts of BOB and the Woods were supposed to remain mysterious. Of course the Network wouldn't let trust Lynch to do it right. Twin Peaks should have been able to flex and grow more.
THIS WAS PRIME TIME !!! THIS was prime time TV ! I am so glad I grew up with this instead of the dumbed down bullshit that passes for media today. Tell everybody you know to have a twin peaks marathon session.
This whole series should be in the public domain. All of these old TV shows should also be in the public domain, Why? Because they have been shown over and over on regular TV.
he recorded it once, played it backwards, wrote down the backwards stuff phonetically, had the actors read that, and then played that backwards. genius.
Exellent scene. The music in the background is superb as well.
As for the Fire Walk With Me movie, as good as that was I just got the impression it was more like "Twin Peaks: Too Hot For TV" as it didn't really tell us anything we didn't already know (I actually watched the movie while suffering a concussion - it felt weird).
I remember this show. I loved it at first. I think it started out as a Mini Series but became so popular they hurriedly made more episodes to stretch it out and then continued to the next season. It got to be too much and I think they should of revealed the killer earlier like they were supposed to and then went from there instead of leaving it to the 2nd year. But it was very original, great music.
If I hadn't already seen this series anyway, this clip would have made me WANT to watch it.
Eraserhead made my a David Lynch fan. The "weird" parts are the best part. I was disappointed that Twin Peaks wasn't MORE surreal. Most shows are "normal." I know what a typical, normal show is like. That's what makes the "weird" ones worth watching!!!
I watched this a long ago and always wondered if there was any connection between Man of another place and Cooper... I happened to see the box set of both seasons and there's this split frame with Cooper in one side and MFAP in the other... Did somebody see something special when it was aired??.... Just asking...
I haven't seen this show, but I find it kind of overrated. I'm a huge fan of Lynch, but the only thing people bring up when I mention his name is this movie. Eraserhead is my favorite by him, so it kind of bothers me. Also, when I talk about stuff that's "weird", people bring this up. I think Twin Peaks is NORMAL compared to Lynch's other works. Even Mulholland Drive doesn't have as much bizarre factor as something like Inland Empire. Seriously, that film is bizarre.
I admire David Lynch, but this seems like he was just being deliberately weird.
He probably thought:
"What else could I do to freak these people out? I know I'll throw in a midget--I mean dwarf; then I'll distort their voices, have lots of awkward, nonsensical moments, an attractive lady that doesn't do much, and Kyle Mclaughlin. And no one will be able to understand any of it so they'll call me a genius! Oh my God...I am a genius. Yes!"
Thought about this scene from Twin Peaks now that the finale of Lost has aired and half of the fans are mad that they 'studied' for clues to the shows mysteries and the show went with a more spiritual end than a connect the dots/clues end. Twin Peaks was another water cooler show that had people analyzing the dreams for clues to solve the mystery. When really, the filmmakers intent was to show a visually creative dream/lsd trip with maybe 1%clue to the show's mystery.
David Lynch fills the void for pertinacious artist of Hollywood. He offers no clear plot or storyline, Point A to point B. Straight line, a thousand squiggly lines, straight line, end.
I watched this show (and the movie) many a time in an altered state and tried to figure it all out, crazy crazy crazy!! Most orginial show to ever be on TV!!!! Lynch is awesome!!
I still haven't seen Fire Walk With Me, just ordered it on amazon though. It really is one of the most original shows they ever played on tv, everyone seems to hate on the second series, but I love it just as much as the original series. Admittedly it got a little goofy in parts, but it didn't detract enough to make me unenthused
@DashingBlast I have been trying to find season 2 on DVD but have had no luck finding it. I have not seen season 2 in a very long time. I do own Season one though. I always tell people about Fire walk with me and everyone hates it but I think it is awesome!!
@DashingBlast from what I have collected, the "goofy/filler parts" isn't directed by David Lynch and should be taken with a pinch of salt and/or ignored entirely, the hate for the second series is pretty much centered around the parts that David Lynch didn't do I think, still, one of the greatest shows out there =)
@boxerjeep I have a question, do you need to have seen the whole show to watch fire walk with me ? I've seen half of season 1, I love the episodes directed by Lynch but the other ones bore me a little.
It's from a television series by David Lynch and Mark Frost. David Lynch is known for his quirky storytelling which often finds itself appearing to audiences as 'weird'. Whatever you think of it (good or bad), you have to admit it's bloody intriguing. I for one think it's one of the greatest television serials ever, alongside Dexter, Deadwood, the Wire and Mad Men.
PS. I wouldn't make a judgement on this show based on this very out of context scene.
@DashingBlast The reason it was so weird was because the guy in charge, probably Lynch, was on heroine when it was written :P He wrote a book about it and everything.
@dadgadable I've never actually seen carnivale, but I've heard good things, I believe it stars the Man from Another Place (the actor who plays him at least). Would you recommend it?
@DashingBlast You mean the dwarf? Yes he plays a leading role actually. I definitely recommend it. It has the same type of suspense, mysticism and creativity, even though the story line and set up is totally different. It can be a bit cheesy though and too erotic in my opinion. There are some characters that really should have been left out imo.
@DashingBlast Carnivale is honestly one of the most underrated shows ever. It is amazing. Clancy Brown in particular gives the performance of a lifetime.
If you like HBO or Twin Peaks, you'll love this show.
