  • Wait... NOW is January 2012 :D

  • Will all the 4:3 fundamentalists be quiet so we can have HD widescreen. Thank you!

  • @777jones Do you REALLY want them to chop off the top and the bottom ?

  • @777jones

No, we won't, because the entire show was not made for widescreen, and should not be changed to be in widescreen.

You can zoom it or mess around with the aspect ratio if you feel like it though, but that's not how it was meant to be seen.

  • @Usul573 Ta Blazes with THAT! Babylon 5 was filmed in 16:9, Next Gen AND DS9 would kick ass if it were like that. Brannon Bloatbragga needs to go to hell for destroying the Enterprise D "just cos it didn't look good in 16:9" - To hell! They just didn't FILM it right! David Carson was a good TV director but he SUCKED EGGS as a Film Director - Now Frakes, he got the hang of it. Enterprise D never should have gotten blown up!

  • @XweAp0nX

I don't really understand, but I understand the sci-fi shows and how shows and films are made and aspect ratio.

  • @Usul573 Yah, I understand that, but if they are gonna redo all of the shows, they are recreadting all of the effects and everything. The original Trailer for "Next Level" shows the Enterprise D - In Wide Screen, and it looks JUST fine, Braga didnt like how it looked and so, destoyed the Enterprise D for us. May he rot in blazes!

  • The original negatives can't be 16:9 because 35mm full aperture does not have that aspect ratio, they are 1.37:1, which is almost exactly like a 4:3 old style TV. To make it 16:9, they would have to zoom in on the image, cutting a bit of the top and the bottom of the shot. While in wide shots you could get away with it, every close up would look ridiculous, chopping up the top of the head every time Picard says "Engage!" in a tight shot. Ironic they didn't think about the next generation formats

  • @dektarium I'm pretty sure widescreen was not even on the radar in 1987. We didn't even get decent flat screen TVs until the year 2000 or so and even those cost as much as a car!!

  • It should be 4:3 because that's how they shot it. They showed every bit of the negative frame on TV, so if they were to push in to fill up a 16:9 TV, you would lose the top and bottom. It may not fill your screen, but it will look better than enlarging and cropping it, and 4:3 is how the directors intended it to be seen when they shot it, so it really is best.

  • 4:3

    :(

  • @JeffGraw

That might be the samples for the trailer. There's talk about how the original negatives were 16:9.

  • Power up the bit torrent.

  • @DOHC2L For portable use, right? I mean you will buy them for when you're at home, won't you?
