Thats an interesting way to find the equation of the tangent after finding the gradient. I've always used the form y=mx+c and substituted in the gradient and known x and y ordinates to find c then rearranged it into the form asked for.
Poor video. As stated you have not answered the question. Im sure you will state the commutative laws exist but all in all very poor....all of this followed by 'please buy my dvds for more answers'....no thanks
yes -4 -1 = -5 BUT I really have done nothing wrong. The sketch is correct. I have plottted points O(-4 , 2) and Q(-1 , 9) correctly. Have another look and listen. mathstutor
If they want the form ax+by+c=0 and you put it in by+ax+c=0 your not doing what they have asked for showing you don't read the question or you just don't know how to do it, so yes you would lose a mark.
To answer the part c of the question coordinate P is not required. Yes point P is on the circle. It is required for either part a or b of the question...... which can been seen if you buy the full dvd from mathstutorDOT biz
Wow! You gave maths a human touch and made it look like fun. I was really paying attention, and the mistake you did on purpose and acting like it really was a mistake was a really good teaching move; you made me imagine myself as though I would be in the situation of writing a Math paper. I subscribed to you :)
is this AQA?

you still were wrong, the paper said "-4" AND "-1" that's -5, you just did your drawing wrong.

your answer isnt in the form of the question ax+by+c=0
you put it in the form by+ax+c=0...do you still get full marks?

yep, the examiner would see this.... it does not matter since its just adding/subtracting
so for example, just do 1 + 1 -2, no matter how you put these, as long as you get your signs correct, it wills still equal 0 wont it?

i don't understand why you didn't use the P coordinate either...but does the question mean that both P and Q are on the circle?
