  • Once again, the game designer has resorted to level memorization-based difficulty instead of something more "legitimate." I mean, don't get me wrong, I love the idea of the gimmick in this level, I just feel like it could have been done in a better way that didn't end up leaving us with a zero-episode.

  • Heh, wow~! Thanks for keeping this, you had a lot of great reactions that we would've otherwise missed. I liked your commentary despite it being a rough ride.

    I understand the cloud; it was so the midpoint could be locked in if you didn't hit the switch properly, and so it could be ran over-top of if you were going too fast. By making it a small object, it allowed all this, plus making you have to be observant and inquisitive.

    Clever, although sadistic indeed.

  • @WayoshiM Agreed. Map16 hacks like that are just irritating. If it doesn't behave like what it looks like, get new graphics or redesign that piece of the level so you can use a regular midpoint bar. As neat as some of the ideas are in this hack, things like this make it seem unpolished.

  • @cc12321 But that, in a way, is cheating as well. It really shouldn't be any different to Raocow than using tools. Part of the challenge here is fighting your instinct. Take that away, and it just isn't the same level anymore. Of course, it's annoying to have to start over every time, but it's not called S. Mario for nothing.

    - Addmusic 3 is poor.

    - Addmusic 4 was used on this ROM but the port itself lacked the proper optimizing/header.

    - The music was designed badly.

    - ZSNES is crap.

    Take your pick.

  • @ceddi90 I don't think that he presses left when dies from hit. It's more of glitch in ASM. What I understand is because ASM is looking for mario's position. So when mario dies, mario does the death animation and looks "center". ASM detects that as "turning back" and kills him second time.

    Mario's dying frame actually flips back and forth frequently when it plays, so it looks left and right.

  • @TheRealDysune If you're talking about the music that starts playing as he starts the stage, that is definitely Fire Emblem music. It's usually played when a character joins your army.

  • Here's something I would do to make the "You can't press this button" levels easier.

    Set those keys to keys on the keyboard you would never use.

    Also, yes, quite funny the double death thing. I have my theory about WHY mario dies when he looks back. It's not black magic. It's just luigi on the nude offscreen. That's why Mario dies whnever he looks back. That's why the music is "together we ride". Cause Real men ride each other, of course!

    That's stupid. Saying that rebinding the controller is cheating is like saying that turning your controller upside-down to deal with reversed controls is cheating.

  • @Ziiiv Ok, deal with me here.... RAOCOW said it'd be cheating. I just agree with him. And I agree because the reasons RAOCOW gave are actually good reasons. Basically, it all comes down to "It destroys the gimmick". you're supposed to deal with special controls. You make them normal in some way, and you're actually cheating, since you're managing to get around some form of difficulty.

    It's comparable to removing crash collision with sprites so you're invulnerable.

    2. To violate rules deliberately, as in a game:

    The rules state that you can't look back, or that the controlers are reversed. You make it so the rule no longer applies you ARE cheating, by definition.

    BESIDES, even if you COULD turn your controller upside-down, you could NOT rebind your controler in a real SNES. That's what makes it cheating. you need to STOP the game and re-bind.
