Ya, you can make one like that, but with less amperage means less pain for the subject using it, that's why I recommend 500 mA, but you can do it either way.

I know it looks big, but there are other type of batteries with that voltage and they are a lot smaller, you just need to search for one, i got one out of a toy car, and it works great, and its about the size of the transformer.
