  • Incrediblje spirit there you must respect it

  • wow u must of been scared to death, i wud of been..

  • I love it when he realizes that he might be eaten that day and starts to try and shoosh it away! I would have done the same thing!

  • It is trying to hypnotize you. then it will say "get in ma belly"

  • i am down in Custer and one had caught and killed one of my mother in laws cats it was seen in the middle of her yard with it hanging out of its mouth so gfp had to come out and they took 2 out of the neighborhood a male and a female

  • luckyly we don´t have dangerous animals in german woods!

  • What county were you hunting in? (fellow SD hunter here)

  • @Cichlidiot

Custer State Park - early archery elk season

  • @sstukel Hey sent a message to your inbox, please read, I have some questions. I'm with the Custer Fire Department. Thanks.

  • People laugh because I have permits to take with me for a pistol. I had three of these beautiful cats, start towards me. I don't believe it was a a close look. I fired two rounds towards them and they took off. I kept checking behind me as I continued onward. I never want to shot one, they are beautiful but then again, I don't wish to be lunch either.

  • oh yeah,,,,, foxes and coyotes too up close

  • i been close to it all..mt lions,,,lynx....snakes scorpoins and black widow and of coarse ratts,,,deers...one time in texas a deer was almost stalking me cause i was hiding in the bushes camping out buy an aprantment complex and thiers a fiield with deers and the deer was either couirous or scared and was litelry watchign me so cousuily cute..love animlas nature is beauitufl excpeince,,,excuse my spelling having a rough day,,,,,

  • Wow, courious or hoping you didn't see him/her so it could attack you from behind, bite into your neck base and break your spine then drag you away for a food cashe.

Or both. One never knows, do one?

  • ha,,,,,,,,,,kitty wants to play,,,,cute litle guy

  • cute little guy...i love mt lions,,he or she was just courouse thats the nature of cats...besides if you really want to make sure your safe they say to just look as big as you can look and wave your arms scare it away usually they just run away,,but yeah i can see your pint i was be nervouse too ...i was aprroched by 4 of them they left me alone i satyed still and they didnt even bother me i love mt lions they are awesome....

  • beautiful! yeah he was getting ready to pounce on ya or seriously thinking about it.

  • Very nice footage. Really good discipline not shooting that cougar. I've seen my house cats very many times with that body language. Looked about like it was thinking to pounce. Personally, if that dude wouldn't leave when it was aware of my presence, it's vulture bait.

  • @RypTyde you dont haVE to shoot it all you have to do is shoot in the air away from the cat and the cat would run and theirs no problems and no one gets hurt and eveybody is happy,,,

  • That pussy was very interested in him, i wonder why? lunch!!!

  • Bonehead tromping around in the woods armed with.....a camera. You silly souls deserve to get attacked. Next time that lion gets you and chwes on your head, I hope your last thought is that these animals are not housecats. Stupid treehugging liberals.

  • @RightieUntilDeath I was elk hunting, you idiot. Bonehead tromping around youtube making assinine assumptions and even dumber statements. I'm not sure you should be the one calling others stupid.

  • @sstukel HAHA awesome comment back! RightieUntildeath became dumbass till death. Another keyboard warrior slayed!

  • @RightieUntilDeath Wow, stucture sentences much? Whaqt do you expect from a cop I guess. Hope this doesn't "chwe" you up

  • @RightieUntilDeath my god you are dumb

  • @RightieUntilDeath

You are far more likely to be struck by lightening, killed by a domestic dog, or shot by accident by a bonehead hunter than attacked by a mountain lion. He was lucky to see one. Interesting the way you catergorize people as liberal/conservative. Must be nice in your little world to have everything so nicely arranged.

  • Good for you! I'm gonna visit there one day. I believe it's obvious that he was not scared of you in the least; in my (un-expert) opinion (and from what I know from experience with domestic cats): that young guy was sizing you up and considering slapping you around a bit ;o)))

  • This is awesome, & would be cool to experience, but it probably would have turned away from me after I shit my pants.

  • Now THAT was AWESOME! holy crap. I could hear you breathing a little shaky!

    Great vid.

  • you are so lucky to have such a close encounter, and to have had your camera with you. You are also lucky to have lived to tell about it, and not have had someone find your camera, and what was left of you! This is why you should not hike in known cougar territory without adequate protection, namely a firearm! You use your seat belt when you drive right? You might not be so lucky a second time! I've been stalked by coyotes, not as much a threat, always carry a gun, never had to use it yet!

  • You are very luck.. That crouch he made at :23 sec means attack is imminent...They say in an encounter if they even start to posture like that YOUR actually suppouse to charge them!!! Lmao I would of got ate!

  • i think it wanted to eat you xD

  • Where u freaked out or what? How did u get it to finally leave? I would have screamed at it and pissed my pants!

  • @Skatecareerheaven

I got it to leave by picking up an arm-sized branch and tossing it at it. That's what I was doing in the last 15 seconds of the video, when it was so shakey.

  • AWESOME!! THIS WAS A LUCKY SHOT!!!!

  • you´re a very lucky person. This was probably a 2year old youngster

  • nice,

  • I live in the Black Hills. I saw one once hiking around the Hill City area. A big male with shoulders like a linebacker! We caught a glimpse of each other and then he disappeared in the brush. I didn't stick around to see where he went! Very cool animals and I am glad we have them here in the hills, but if you see one it'll make your heart stop!

  • Looks like a young one. Probably trying to decide if you were food or not.

  • Looks like its ready to pounce on you.

  • whoa

  • all you have to do is shoot up in the air not at them that alone will make them scared and run away they dont want to hurt peopel their just as scared as you are dont need to kill a beuiful animal just shoot in the air and they will run away trust me,,,

  • @astarothsharp Yeah, that cat looked absolutely terrified. If the camera man had fled i think the balance of fear would have tilted drastically.Who do you think wanted to run more? I will put money on the thin-skinned camera man.I get what your saying though.

  • A beautiful cat

  • 50 lions were killed in 2010.

  • I've never been this close to one but I do carry a .45 revolver and a 12 ga. coach gun on my utv. The first chamber is loaded with bird shot for a rattler and then .45 shells.

Nice video. How long did it take to clean your shorts?

  • It wants to eat you

  • BAD KITTY!

  • OMG! It is just sitting there watching. I would totally freak! We hiked through the black hills and these mountain lions were the one thing that kept us very anxious the entire time :(

  • They are beautiful animals but it must have been unnerving to watch it watching you... peace

  • Quite a feeling to know your life could have ended within seconds of this video. You are SO lucky to post this. These will tear your neck in two. I regularily hike 20+ miles in Idaho's sawtooth wilderness with my camera, just like you, and that has always been my greatest fear, an actual encounter with one of these animals.

  • Balancing its tail and crouching? That's not a good sign. The experts tell you to be aggressive, make noise and look threatening in that situation. And the worst part was it had the high ground on you. You're lucky.

  • i live in south dakota and we live on the eastern side of SD but when we go west we always see one or two oh and rattlesnakes always see those too!!!!!!

  • "what in the hell" is about right. I'd have my knife in one hand and the other on the VC. I worry about that shit all the time on the PCT.

  • Guts man! Not sure I would have been taping. Those things scare the &^%$ out of me.

  • omg that is so cool.we went there and I was looking so hard to see one and I didn't see any at all.I was so mad! ahaha They're so pretty, but mean! :D

  • I went to custer from Turkey in 2007 summer, it was amazing being there. I will visit there one day certainly.

  • This was in the southern part of Custer State Park - right on the Centenial trail.

  • Nice video. You did the right thing keeping your eyes on him and not walking/running off.

  • where was this? thats freaky. i'm constantly in Spearfish Canyon in the summer time, but I have a huge fear that I'm going to someday encounter this..

  • Hey Thats cool video!! He was trying to figure out what you were. Great post. Check my cougar vid out. I filmed one from my tree stand.
