I've seen research about this and it's interesting. If you place an octopus that knows how to do this next to one that doesn't *separate aquariums of course* then the 2nd octopus that doesn't know how to do it will learn from the one that knows how to do it.

I read a National Geographic article in which an octopus figured out how to get a shrimp out of a bottle. The bottle had been corked. The cork was held in place by a pin stuck through the neck of the bottle and the cork. It had to figure out that it needed to tug out the pin before it could tug out the cork and only then get to the shrimp.
That's fairly intelligent. I know humans that might not solve that problem.
