  • This was a pretty cool skit. I remember seeing in 1975-1976 when I was 4 or 5 years old.

  • If witches were still on Sesame Street and they remade this sketch, here's who would perform them.

    Blue Witch - Steve Whitmire

    Green Witch - David Rudman

Purple Witch - Jerry Nelson (puppetry would be done by Matt Vogel)

  • It's witch time!! heeheeheehee

  • I remember this one!! Sesame Street & the Muppets were the GREATEST!!

  • They should have made a new version of this with the Charmed girls! LOL!

  • Where these witches or are they just anything muppets?

  • It's like a Muppet version of the witches in the Shakespearean drama: "Macbeth".

  • @coyote374

They were witches made from AMs.

  • 2:47 to 2:50:

"Its too bad we don't know a witch with some noodles."

    Hahah!

  • There's nothing like using a rubber chicken in chicken soup. Great skit too!

  • I love this one. Who are the muppeteers in this sketch?

  • Blue=Jim Henson

    Green=Richard Hunt

    Purple=Jerry Nelson

  • Thanks.

  • Ha Ha! This really took me back. I have not seen it in at least 35 years, but suddenly found myself reciting along..."watch the witches cooperate....!" It was one of my favorite skits.

  • I remember this well - the opening and closing music might be spooky, but the lines spoken by the witches themselves are as 'down-to-earth slapstick' as you can get!

  • Always loved this! The spooky halloweenish music, & those hilariously whacky witches! Imagine knocking on their door & shouting "Trickortreat!"

  • "a lot of smoke but no magic! your magic sucks"!

  • I mean that in the form of a joke, as it seems like she just might say something like that! I love this sketch by the way along with grover the waiter and the subway song.

  • I remember this very clearly from my kindergarden days. I loved these witches and their voices. I wanted them to come to our house and stay with us. I imagined them making spells in our kitchen.

  • And really good chicken soup, because I hated my Mom's (and got grounded for saying so).

  • lol

  • This clip may contain Jerry Nelson's best feminine voice ever. Jim and Richard are great also.

  • I agree. I tend to think Jerry's female voices sound a lot like Robin the Frog on helium.

  • Anyone have the episode where Margaret Hamilton made a special guest appearance as the Wicked Witch of the West?

  • I liked how the blue witch made those funny noises when carrying her kettle. It's like she was carrying a hot kettle without oven mitts.

  • "Too bad we don't know a witch with some noodles!" SO adorable!! Thanks for posting!!

  • "CHICKEN SOUP!"

    So. Cute.

  • "Lotta smoke but no magic"...classic spell-failed SS muppet line!

  • lol, I was born '71 and I remember watching this kid when I was like 5 years old here in the Philippines. I remember now that I thought that the 3 witches were inside a human throat and the rock formations were tonsils lol

  • Fair is foul and foul is fair.

  • Ummm... they aren't exactly using all the elements here... or maybe they are? Smoke, chicken (Earth Element?), fire, kettle of water. Sesame Street gave me an early lesson in World Religions. LOL

  • The hysterical laugh of all three after green indroduces the magic chicken is still really funny! And, the "hoo hoo" laugh by blue.

  • WOWOWOWOWOOWOW!!!lololololololololololol!!!THIS ALWAYS HAD ME ON THE FLOOR ROLLING...LOVELOVELOVE IT!THE GIRLS FROM CHARMED HAVE NOTHING ON THESE GALS.

  • I feel like I've met these women.

  • Too bad we don't know a witch with some noodles. HA HA HA HA HA! ROTFLMAO!!!

  • You know I wonder what they were expecting from each of their things?

  • I personaly believe that women puppeteers should have played the witches. I'm not saying that Jerry Nelson, Jim Henson, and Richard Hunt didn't do a good job. The'yre my favorite puppeteers. It just makes more sense to me.

  • Well by 1972 they had only one female Muppeteer: Fran Brill. Jim Henson didn't do female voices as often as Frank Oz and Jerry Nelson and Richard Hunt did.

  • I didn't know this sketch existed until I saw it on the Sesame Street Old School DVDs.

This is now one of my favorite classic SS sketches.

  • great thanks

  • OMG!!! I've been looking for this for-freegin'-ever!!

"Hobbildy Bobbildy Flippity Fluff Magic Fire Do Your Stuff....WOOO"!!!! This is soooooo classic!

  • "MY MAGIC CHICKEN !! AHHH HAHAHAHAHAH !!" LMBO LMBO... This was another one of my favourites !!! YESSSSSSSSSSSSS !!! TY for posting ! This is going on my MySpace !!! :D heehee

  • reminds me of the Stygian Witches

  • Which muppet performers performed those 3 witches?

  • Never mind, I see in dorourke105's comment.

  • Jim Henson and Jerry Nelson and Richard Hunt.

  • For those of you wondering who did voices here they are. Jerry Nelson as the purple witch Jim Henson as the blue witch and Richard Hunt as the green witch.Feel free to make corrections if I'm wrong.

  • anyone know the skit where the puppets sing "cooperation, makes it happen, cooperation, working together" and then a frog or something says "Dig it!" ??? anyone know it?

  • I know it, but it wasn't a frog. It was a green old man with a mustache.

  • Reminds me of the movie, "Tales From the Crypt" with Ralph Richardson also from 1972.

  • the witch in the middle had cross eyes, lol! :D

  • i remember this!

  • 1st Witch: When shall we three meet again In thunder, lightning, or in rain?

2nd Witch: When the hurlyburly's done, When the battles lost and won.

3rd Witch: That will be ere set of the sun.

    1st Witch: Where the place?

    2nd Witch: Upon the heath.

3rd Witch: There to meet with Macbeth.

    1st Witch: I come Graymalkin!

    2nd Witch: Paddock calls.

    3rd Witch: Anon.

All: Fair is foul, and foul is fair. Hover through the fog and filthy air.

  • These were the witches I pictured when I read Macbeth in high school.

  • you don't say! lol! I remember this skit well!

  • That's what I was just thinking!

  • Get a bunch of women together and it's either a makeover party or witchcraft.

  • or lingerie (which i am reluctant to add since these 3 don't seem right for lingerie) ... hmm, lets say tupperware instead.

  • This has got to be one of the silliest Sesame Street skits I've ever seen as a child, but I dig it!

  • co-op-er-ation make it happen!

  • Magic chicken! the result was cute.

  • You mean chicken soup? That was cute.
