@supersalomi: I put the air compressor inside the bed of the truck where it's protected by a tonneau cover. I drilled a small hole and ran the air line through the floor of the bed. The air tubing from the valve to the horns is just a few inches so there's very little perceived delay from pushing the horn button on the steering wheel, to hearing the horns report.
@cmelochick: I removed the spare tire and stowed it in the truck bed. I mounted the horns to a piece of plate steel and mounted the steel plate to the frame where the spare tire was. I used loc tite to prevent any of the screws/bolts form rattling loose. Good luck!
@TheFireman203: the Grovers are air powered. The horns are about ~$200 a piece, and I'm running two. Expensive but there's no other horn or sound like it.
I have an on board air system from hornblasters that's regulated by a switch that kicks the compressor on at 120 psi and kicks it off at 150 psi. I"m using the 1/4'' SMC electric solenoid valve and 1/4'' air line which is what the horns called for. I hope that helps. More videos to come before long. I need to find a secluded place to show how long they blast on this 5 gallon tank.
What size tank do you run with that setup? I used to have a single horn setup with a 5 gal. tank but no compressor. Now i bought a new truck and have minimal room to mount a big tank.
I have a fat 5 gallon tank, as opposed to the long slender tank. The long slender tank may have fit between the frame rail and body on this truck, but I went with the fat tank and mounted it in the bed under a locked tonneau cover. You could get by with a smaller 2 gallon tank, but you wouldn't be able to blast the horns for long periods. I need to post a vid showing how long they last with the 5 gallon tank.
Where did you put your air compressor? How close was it to your horns? For the Grover 1510s.
