Why would Russia start this war for no reason? Georgia, with US backing, must have played a big role. They just pushed things to far. At some point Russia is honor bound to do something. Russian soldiers have for a long time been willing to put their lives on the line to defend many ethnic minorities in the Russian Federation and elsewhere.
