is snowboarding hard? im going later this year and ive never been.definatly dont expect to be doing big stairs or rails or anything. and ive skateboarded for about 8 years, is it anything like skating?

@GypsyMafiaa Well, I can't say it's easy. The first few days will be hard and you'll end up on your butt all the time. But once you get the basics down it's just smooth sailin' up to the point were you can snowboard downhill with ease. Jumps and rails is a completely different thing, so don't try it before you feel completely confidente on the board. But I'm sure some skateboarding experience will help. And be careful with your wrists, they are very easy to break in the beginning. Mine did :P

As napalm9 said, make sure to be confident on your board before even attempting the park! This cannot be stressed enough! Learn how to ride both regular and goofy.. It's a MUST!

As for being a skateboarder.. If you're used to hitting rails, ledges..etc. That will help for park tricks later on. But it is way different.

When you are going down a hill, make sure to lean forward/put weight on your front foot for turning..etc. You don't steer with your back foot.

@cjd6111111 Think about how you initiate your carve. You will lift up your big toe & the ball of your front foot, twisting the knee outward to do a heelside turn. For a toeside turn you are going to press down w/your big toe and the ball of your front foot, twisting the knee inward. The back foot should not be used as a rudder.  I skated 1st & snowboarded 2nd and used what I knew from skating to learn how to carve. Wheel slides buddy! They are different but close cousins. 21 years upon the snow!

@cjd6111111 I skate&snowboard.Trust me skating is harder because ur balance is on a smaller platform making it harder to stay on.Snowboards practically stand u up without even having to do anything.Not to mention u have to regain balance after flipping the board between ur legs, catching it mid-air then maintaining that footing&adjusting ur body to compensate for the change in motion simultaneously. Skating is easier to initially pick up but harder as you progress.I like snowboarding(more style)

@jkwasy i do both and i always found skateboarding easier then snowboarding. easier to keep balance if you wanna bail you can jump straight off and snowboarding you're strapped in. but then again stacking on a snowboard doesnt hurt as much as skateboarding. then again i broke my wrist snowboarding and i never broke a bone skateboarding....hmmmm... its still broken >_<

Start small and advance gradually. Don't ever let anyone push you into doing something that you're not comfortable with. Always make sure to have proper equipment. I.e. Keep your board tuned: Edges sharp (if not going for park), board waxed, base grinds. If something breaks, FIX IT! Don't use broken gear, it can and will lead to disaster!
