I only discovered Prison Break very recently because it's available on Netflix UK. I watched it all from start to finish in just over two weeks (of very late nights!) and really loved it but I was so shocked and saddened by this ending. It has to be said though that the scriptwriters certainly succeeded in provoking a very strong reaction amongst fans, making it even more unforgettable! I love this song too - just perfect to capture the mood of the hard-to-stomach, tragic ending!

Mahone (William Fichtner) was my favorite character by posture, his intelligence. T-Bag (Robert Knepper) was supposed to be hated, but the talent and charisma of the character he has mademany fans, Michael was all in history, he was practically perfect face and a huge heart.
prison break was not only perfect for that. everybody liked michael, such dedication to end up dead. I love all of prison break, especially the actors. all are great but Mahone, Michael and T-bag is sensational.

I had a sinking feeling while watching this the first time. I kept going, "Are they ... Does this mean that Michael is ... Nah, can't be. He'll show up ... He's coming any moment now ... They're going to meet him on the beach ... No, he's not dead ... Wait, is that his ... NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!"
Only good thing about this scene is that Mahone looks great in a white shirt, but even my flakey fangirliness couldn't override the feeling of sadness when I realized that Michael had died :(

Even though it was a sad ending, it was the best way to end it and will always be remembered! The song 'lay it down' always gives me goosebumps and makes me feel sorry for Michael. He died in 2005....and they jumped ahead 4 years...so in this particular scene...the characters are in 2009, and the general also gets electrocuted in 2009.
This ending really frustrated me to the point of tears because, while no one wants to see the hero die, Scofield's death was particularly tragic considering how much he sacrificed to save his loved ones. Watching him overcome so many obstacles and dangers made you feel like he damn well deserved to come out on top and live a well-earned life afterwards, more than anyone else in the show. His death really came as a shock.
@0esibe T Bag will always be alone in his life...whatever chances and money he has,plus he raped and killed children.Scoffield on the other hand maybe died but he had people around him untill the last time ,who cared,trust and loved him.

Michael had a family, preety,smart wife, dedicated brother and loving nephew and a son named like him.. He had a lot of wonderful moments, he had friends.
What did T-bag have? Prison life? Family life with people who hated him? Money? Did I miss something? Oh, of course, he ended in prison, and probably died in the prison, lonely and alone.
And, btw, don't you think, that Bagwell has changed since Sona times? He had mercy for Emily, for Grethen... That's suprising.

I know you guys wanted Michael to live, and so did I, but I think it was the perfect ending. He died happily, because he died for the sake of his wife, his FAMILY.

That scene kept me awake for hours that night I saw it. After everything he went through, I actually felt like mourning for the dude; that's how powerful the ending was.
Also, i feel like the creators wanted to make it a memorable ending. If they had sailed into the sunset happily ever after people would just forgot about it. This way it sticks with us for a very long time... it is hard to see the happiness but its there. When they visit his grave you can tell his sons going to be a lot like him and most of the other harecters ended up where the belonged either at home with family of back in prison because for some people like tbag thats where they should be

Everyone keeps writing "He sacrificed him so that his wife and child could be free" well technically they are NOT free. They are stuck in Panama and they have to fear being caught for the rest of their lives!! So once again I hate this ending!

@08hulsi This wasn't the last episode, there was 1 more. Actually these 2 episodes were 1 short movie split in 2 parts for tv.....And they didn't make a season 5 because it was much better to end it the way it ended, being a great series rather than go for 1 more season of half baked episodes, as there was nothing new that they could add in 1 season while the main plot had ended, and have us remember it as a series that went bad...
@08hulsi There was no season 5 but there was a short movie called Prison Break: The Last Break where as i said they break Sara out of prison and where Michael dies by electrocution....

I had a sinking feeling while watching this the first time. I kept going, "Are they ... Does this mean that Michael is ... Nah, can't be. He'll show up ... He's coming any moment now ... They're going to meet him on the beach ... No, he's not dead ... Wait, is that his ... NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!"
Only good thing about this scene is that Mahone looks great in a white shirt, but even my flakey fangirliness couldn't override the feeling of sadness when I realized that Michael had died :(

Even though it was a sad ending, it was the best way to end it and will always be remembered! The song 'lay it down' always gives me goosebumps and makes me feel sorry for Michael. He died in 2005....and they jumped ahead 4 years...so in this particular scene...the characters are in 2009, and the general also gets electrocuted in 2009.

This ending really frustrated me to the point of tears because, while no one wants to see the hero die, Scofield's death was particularly tragic considering how much he sacrificed to save his loved ones. Watching him overcome so many obstacles and dangers made you feel like he damn well deserved to come out on top and live a well-earned life afterwards, more than anyone else in the show. His death really came as a shock.

Michael had a family, preety,smart wife, dedicated brother and loving nephew and a son named like him.. He had a lot of wonderful moments, he had friends.
What did T-bag have? Prison life? Family life with people who hated him? Money? Did I miss something? Oh, of course, he ended in prison, and probably died in the prison, lonely and alone.
And, btw, don't you think, that Bagwell has changed since Sona times? He had mercy for Emily, for Grethen... That's suprising.

I know you guys wanted Michael to live, and so did I, but I think it was the perfect ending. He died happily, because he died for the sake of his wife, his FAMILY.
Saying Michael's death was stupid would disappoint him. His death was not wasted, he did it for the ones he loved.

ok.i watch this video and cry each and everytime.it was the best show i have ever seen.the ending was justified bt was really abrupt. they finished it all in 2 episodes.hope it cud have been extended into another season.missing it.

Also, i feel like the creators wanted to make it a memorable ending. If they had sailed into the sunset happily ever after people would just forgot about it. This way it sticks with us for a very long time... it is hard to see the happiness but its there. When they visit his grave you can tell his sons going to be a lot like him and most of the other harecters ended up where the belonged either at home with family of back in prison because for some people like tbag thats where they should be

just finished the series and I thought the ending was fantastic with the music really providing a great atmosphere to it. I was sad that Michael died but I thought when they showed the nose bleed it was foreshadowing something like that too happen

prison break was one of the most beautiful tv shows i have ever seen...

@08hulsi This wasn't the last episode, there was 1 more. Actually these 2 episodes were 1 short movie split in 2 parts for tv.....And they didn't make a season 5 because it was much better to end it the way it ended, being a great series rather than go for 1 more season of half baked episodes, as there was nothing new that they could add in 1 season while the main plot had ended, and have us remember it as a series that went bad...

@08hulsi There was no season 5 but there was a short movie called Prison Break: The Last Break where as i said they break Sara out of prison and where Michael dies by electrocution....
