I found this mega mega interesting. I'm an Australian member of Sydney FC's supporter group the Cove. Did a working holiday in Canada in 1999 & had the misfortune of attending a Toronto Lynx match at Varsity Stadium. Vancouver at least had a ground in Burnaby when I was there.
Great to see things are changing for football not only in the US of A but in CANADA as well.

anyone know the song in the intro of the vid? very catchy. Well for those of you saying blue is our city's colour, the raptors don't fly blue. Even though TFC maybe shoulda followed the blue, at least theyre not green!
The marching band wasnt started by the ECS, it was started by Drew Carey and the FO. The March to the match was also started by the ECS sans marching band. no one in seattle like the marching band.
Yeah, I've never watched a Sounders game live, partly cos I live in Adelaide, Australia, I have watched a few videos of the ECS and I have to say that the marching band sort of deadens the atmosphere. I think if the ECS just brought drums, horns, whistles and even a trumpet or two they would create a much better and more intimidating atmosphere. Or maybe even if they just sort of unmiked the band that could work too, it did for Boca Junior's La 12 so why not for the ECS too.
Do you want trophies or applause for supporters numbers? Last time I checked, you don't get trophies for best supporters in the league. Wake the F up and focus on the field
only thing I will agree with you is that Seattle sucks and red is better than puke green but... Vancouver will be # 1 when we enter the league muhahahaha
@QballFittzz It's not because we have more seats, Seattle has had a good base of soccer fans. Even back then in days of North American Soccer League we had a good support base. The one thing the Sounders FC did for me is actually change my whole thinking on soccer. That was partly because of things like the band that plays before the game, the hometown spirt of ECS, and of course the team itself.
Seattle and Toronto have done wonders for the league and is helping MLS grow into something great. With the additions of Portland and Vancouver...the rivarly between them and Seattle will be amazing. All 3 clubs will have insane support. When Montreal gets into the MLS...the rivalry they will have with Toronto will be HUGE!!!! I cannot wait to see the MLS take it to the next level in the next few years...
wrong, houston dynamo was the original mls changing club, toronto fc just topped that in 2007 and now seattle fc topped that this year. hopefully a second new york team or a floridian team will topp that.
Lmao on the detroit comment. I have respect for Seatle and what they have done and hope to see you guys at the cup. I see that you guys have the volume but we have the passion and if our stadium was 32000 then theyred be no doubt who has the best fans in mls
Well done video and comments were well spoken at end. I hope the league can learn from both clubs as it needs more teams to stronger local support. Soccer fans across North America will benefit from a stronger league that is supported by more fans. MLS has a way to go but adding regional rivals will help increase some interest. Vancouver and Portland will be excellent additions.
Pretty fair video. There were a couple pieces missed. There's always a drum in the S. end, and it seemed quieter because you were at the N. end.
There is a separate supporters site & march that were going before the Sounders went to MLS. The FO basically tags on. youtube: "emerald city supporters march" & "montero goal galaxy" to see ECS march & away support @ 200. We know you bring it, but were disappointed when 1/2 of BMO was gone @ 1/2time.
Also, there are plenty of bars around that play the games. The main bar isn't even near the stadium, so I'm not surprised you didn't make it out. You should check it out next time: George and Dragon Pub.
The band was separated from the ECS due to complaints. So that also shows the pull that the ECS has. Others have already mentioned why the band is irrelevant too. I don't really see the necessity to hate on the band though. It's having live music as opposed to recordings. To each their own!
I think since there are a lot of things going on that you don't know about, things get overlooked.
Many people mentioned that you didn't even mention the ECS, and they're crucial to Sounders FC. They led everything since the UCL, plus they led the way to make sure the Sounders name was kept in Seattle!
BMO only holds 20k, Qwest opens up 32,400 for soccer and has a capacity of 66,700. Sounders games are sold out too.
You can't "bang metal" when everything's cement. No bleachers.
What fans? The ECS? Don't know from that. You'd have been welcome in Collins Pub, I'll tell you that. And if I'd known you were buying, hellyes I'd have been there.
Hey Seattle fans, It was YOUR own who told us to stay away. It was YOUR FANS who told us to stay away from your march. It was YOUR FANS who told us to stay away from Fuel and McCoy's Firehouse.
We posted open invitations to you to our meetup pre-game at Fado for a beer, heck two of us (myself included) offered to buy and were dismissed. We reached out an olive branch, and YOUR PEOPLE shot us down.
So before you accuse us of bias -- we approached you first, and you said no.
Pretty level. I suppose nobody wants to say another teams supporters are better than their own. Well, only TFC and SSFC can actually even make that argument to be honest.
Mikes on the band are a non-issue. How much noise would they pick up? The band doesn't lead chants and were moved away from the ECS because they interfered with the chants. I hear the band about thrice a match.
BTW, nobody chants to the Sounders till I die on the video board, but it gets chants aplenty at the bars.
Thanks for coming. A few Sounders fans flew out for the April match in Toronto this year; hopefully we'll have more next year.
There are always drums in the supporters section - listen again, and you'll hear them orchestrating the beginning/end of chants with the drums.
As someone with season tickets outside the GA section, i just wish us other fans would get in on the chants. And yeah - video not complete without the GA section bouncing and chanting!
Well, you certainly have put up some misinformation and it is misleading,,,
ECS is completely under-represented here. In fact, you have not one single shot of them singing and chanting at all.
Also, the mic's on the band are only turned on for a couple songs before the game starts when the band is announced....they are turned off for the match. And in case you didn't notice, I believe the band only played 3 times during the match that day....many people have drums in that stadium.
Vid is slightly one sided but not too skewed, Drew Carrey's band DOES NOT lead the chants. Yes the band is annoying and is miked, but the crowd ignores it and they don't play during chants.
Yes the chants they have a long ways to go, outside the ECS fan club in GA the crowd doesn't know them so they don't participate much, which is too bad so the basic end to end "Seattle... Sounders..." is all that gets any momentum. It's better than nothing and better than most MLS crowds can muster.
I also think that TFC is a great roll model for us and that together TFC and the Sounders set a great bar for the rest of MLS.
I have noticed that it is hard to get the whole stadium to do some of the more complex cheers, but I think as time moves on there will be more and more fans chanting along with those.
I will try to make a match in Toronto next year and see what we can learn from the TFC. Professional North American soccer can use all the good ideas it can get the respect it deserves.
Why do these comment threads always turn into nothing but negative nagging?
Thanks for the interesting perspective from the outside in. As a Seattle Sounders fan I think that there are a lot of positive things going on surrounding the Sounders, but of course there is a lot of room for improvement as well (both with the players on the pitch and the fans). Completely biased view.
He never even shows any Seattle fans except shots from across the pitch.
WTF is this video supposed to show?
You say their fanbase is weaker than they should be, but you never show any footage to back it up.
It's all your own word of mouth, which like I said at the start, is completely biased.
adamwparker 2 years ago
It's funny how he was supposed to show how SEATTLE fans were but all he showed were Toronto(the army of 15 of them walking down the street).
He didn't show any pre-game celebrations, completely cut out the march to the game which features thousands of rant fans.
He doesn't even talk to any Sounders people.
And then in the end he calls out Sounders to travel to BMO after only maybe 50 Toronto fans went to Qwest?
Hello Parkland! Sounders traveling army is over 300 now!
adamwparker 2 years ago
It will be great to see those 300 in Toronto next year.
redpatchboys 2 years ago
Then a small portion of the stadium would look like Christmas, ha!
Sounders have some 'away' blues, but 99% of fanbase has bought the home greens.
One things for sure, Toronto was lucky nobody had the black and red when they came into the league.
Best kits in the league I think. Sea of Red looks cool too. Like the teams are surrounded by a bloodbath.
And as for the Rave Green Army traveling to BMO, half of them will probably get shot passing through the Detroit area.
adamwparker 2 years ago
300? didn't bring that much down to TO.
incase you didn't know Reds travelling army has hit almost 3000 for a game more than once!

The march is for the fans, not the supporters. ECS does our own march, which sometimes goes off at the same time.
Almost no one in ECS likes the band... that's Drew Carey's gig.
We've got drum action in GA, but our voices are the focus.
Next year will be better after season-ticket shuffle; more ECS in the GA.
re: simple chants- better to have fans do that than nothing. Hopefully they will join in our complex songs eventually.
