Hello...just checked Wikipedia..it credits both Kravitz and Chavez as writers..Madonna is credited for 'additional lyrics. Your right about the court case..it only mentions Chavez sueing Lenny. I think I was right about the concept of the song though...it's style and structure was based on Ingrids poem...the baseline is sampled from a Public Enemy song.

Who knows why, but you have to remember Madonna then was really pushing people buttons, and values, morals. She was something different, way better then Gaga girl. Madonna is and always will be the best female artist for a long time. But mixing song and religion was like this is really genius, but for some who saw it as putting sex into Revelations was a blasphemy on a dance floor for many gays. Yes GAYS, are religious, and they made their stand on it there on the dance floor.

Gosh I remember this when it came out on her Justify My Life remix record back in the early nineties. It really was a big hit. I remember it was played once at the clubs, and everyone started to dance, but when dancing people heard the lyrics they all stopped, looked around and walked off the dance floor, by the time the song was less then half way through the dance floor was empty. The D.J., apologized, and put on a new record of hers. Vogue, no one danced until Free Your Mind was put on.
