Wow! I thought I was the only person who had ever finished the second pass of the game. Good going, Chris! I know how hard it is. I know lots of people find the challenge in this game restrictive, and can't get beyond that. Personally, this is one of my favorite games on the system, and I'm glad to see your opinion closely matches mine. Kudos on this awesome review!
@mrjakeskazekiri Hey, thanks my friend. I was determined because I got hooked on this game. But man....did my blood pressure go up at times. LOL! Thanks for writing. :)
I played Cotton on a Sharp X68000on (with the dancing keyboard effect) a retro fair. This game is simply amazing and very good and addictive shoot'em up. And - of course - we care that you beat the game with the true ending. ;-)
The only exposure I had prior to knowing about this game to the character Cotton was as a recruitable character in Rondo of Swords for the DS. She was a strange girl, for sure.
Well mister Eeee Guber, if that's your real name, at the start of the review you rise an interesting point : The price the US version of Cotton reaches. I mean rare or not that's no reason.
Review wise I love the animated stuff you add in when you talk about a game feature. Very professional. If you keep this up you'll have to go to the Youtube patent office in someone's basement before everybody copies you...
He he, that false ending was superb...you certainly suffer for your art dude! Congrats on beating that second loop, I can't even press much past level 3! Not an easy game to pin down, it sort of manages to stay out of a neat pigeonhole, but your review as ever was spot on. I prefer the Sega Saturn versions though!!
Game looks sweet! Too hard for me though that's for sure! OMG I mean one hit kills you and there's shit flying all over the place! I would suck so bad at this game! But if you like hardcore shooters this does look really nice!
Well done Chris. The production value on your videos have gone leaps and bounds since your earlier reviews. Sucks that, as a fellow turbo fanatic, we have to age while our memories are still wrapped in the early 90's.
@DynasticHero Yes, me too. I had the same issue (as you could tell). I'm glad I was somehow able to defeat the second pass.....notice.....it was THE LAST GUY I had (and yes, it was my last continue available).
@Machohervey I don't believe there is any actual connection. But, a lot of people enjoy comparing the two. I like them both about the same for different reasons. You know?
Every time I see a new Turbo Views episode pop up in my subscriptions I cry for joy! This is such a great show. Awesome stuff as always and can't wait for the next episode!
Awesome review! I have heard of this series a good bit over the years, but asides from some stills, I didn't really have a good idea on what it is like. Thanks to this review, I may just track it down, on some platform or another (Maybe the Saturn one..)!
Fantastic review. You're the one who inspired me to replace my dearly loved lost Turbo Duo (with a region switched PC Engine Duo-R), and start collecting for the system again. Love to see the new videos, and am jealous as this is one of the titles I have yet to replace because of the price :/ Loved the memories from watching this and your other videos though, and really look forward to more!
@avenuePad Ha ha. I almost did man.........almost. But, I just couldn't stop playing it. And if you notice....I was literally on the LAST LIFE! Ugh. :)
Great game! I'm starting a review series for the PC engine pretty soon. Once I get my video capture sorted out I'm going to review the games in chronological order from release. Sadly, that means my first review is Shanghai...hahaha. It gets better from there though.
@spida1a Thanks! You've got the TG-16 locked down but since I'm fluent in Japanese, I figure I can pick up the PC-Engine slack. Though, admittedly, the number of games to review is nearly 700 so it's rather daunting. I have the vast majority of the early titles already so I can start things up and pick up what I need as I go along.
@xcornmuffinx Sounds great! I think a PC-Engine show would always be awesome. But, you're right....ha ha....it lasted twice as long and with a zillion more games. GO get 'em! Ha ha. :)
Yeah I picked up Cotton 100% for Super Famicom when it kept popping up as "one of the best SFC games ever". I disagree.
It's not terrible, but it's mediocre at best. With the oversaturation of shooters on these older consoles, to me it only stands out as different but otherwise unremarkable.
@malignantpoodle Interesting. I don't think I ever played that one (which, if I remember correctly, is the "Sequel" to this one). I'll have to look it up.....Thanks for watching!
I forgot... You my friend have a gift and are a great reviewer. I would have never known the joy of the under appreciated TurboGrafx 16, if it wasn't for you.
My gosh! I was waiting for you to review my pc engine game Cotton. Thank You. By the way, you are the reason i bought Coryoon, Ninja Gaiden, and my pc engine and super cd rom2 + many other games you have reviewed.
I played the Japanese PS1 release of this on my PSP (it's on J-PSN), and... yeah, it seems they really must have stripped it down, as it had unlimited continues and was REALLY FREAKING EASY. And that whole bonus second playthrough thing? Didn't seem to exist. Unless maybe I was on the wrong difficulty setting, I dunno... I always play my shooters on easy because I'm a wuss, so maybe the PS1 version just added difficulty settings. ;)
Either way, I'm impressed at how ABSOLUTELY IDENTICAL this version is to the PS1 version. Heck, it even seems to have better music -- the PS1 version sounds like it's using Sega Genesis synth, whereas this sounds like it's using Redbook audio. Really cool to see what the ol' TurboGrafx CD can do.
And the review was, as always, fantastic. Your editing is second to none, and I loved all those labels at the bottom of the screen, pulled in by silhouettes of Cotton. Very nice touch!
I like this game a lot.My first impression of this game wasn't good,as I thought it looked drab and the game was overly difficult, until I learned that you have to use the other button to throw those missile bomb things.I love the music in this game, and the story is just hilarious.A underrated CD shooter. The game play is addicting with extended plays.I will rate this game 8.5/10. Anyways, nice to see you back Chris.I've been collecting SG/Snes/Nes games,so been taking break from the ol PCE.
@123doomdoom I agree my friend. Totally. I actually had it at 4/5 stars (a little more in-line with your assessment). But, I couldn't deny the fact that I JUST couldn't stop playing. You know? So.......I had to round it up a bit and give it a little more. But, we're pretty much exactly in-line. Thanks as always my friend!!
@kotogoto00 Thanks my friend. I try to....do different things once in a while. To mix it up. It's tough with this cookie-cutter-ish design I created. Ha ha. Thanks for watching and commenting...as always!! : )
You needed an 80s montage at the end when you were trying to beat the 2nd play through. Shots of you wearing a sweat band, warming up your thumbs, chugging energy drink! Great review as always
@MetalJesusRocks I had thought about that. If the series had me "on camera", I probably would have done something like that. LOL. Thanks for watching!
Great seeing you again Chris. I only know about this game through the net and emulators and I think its awesome!! Cutie lil characters in a shmup game makes it cool. Amazing music. Cotton had a few series on various consoles...great game and great review!
Another awesome review Chris! Super-CD deprived Gamers looking for Cotton should know, versions of cotton are also on the Sega Saturn, Super-NES, Dreamcast and even the Sega MegaDrive. Although the Mega Drive & Dreamcast versions are completely different as they are space-harrier style perspectives.
Check out the Saturn versions which are Arcade perfect ports. The Super-Nes Version takes CUTE to a new level and is not as creepy as it should be.
Sadly, this game's not available for download on the Wii, at least not here in Australia, and the NEC consoles weren't even available down here, bit of a shame really, perhaps Nintendo will one day make this game available for download on the Wii, I'd like to play it and playing it on the Wii is most likely the best and easiest way for me to play this game.
When will you review Truxton? And can you compare it to the Sega Genesis version. I have been waiting for that review a long time now. You are awesome man!
@MasterNinja1990 Hey Master Ninja! How'z it going? Um......Truxton? I know Truxton isn't on the TurboGrafx.....was there a PC-Engine version out there?
Well, I feel good. A positive attitude always wins the game. You should know that you are a gamer =) Truxton is an awesome (in my opinion the best), shoot em up. Its an old arcade game from 1988. It was known as Tatsujin in Japan. The game was ported to Sega Mega Drive 1989 and to Turbo Grafx-16 1992. Just check out wikipedia or some other info site for more info. Would be morphinominal if you could do a review of my favorite game ever.
@MasterNinja1990 Oh, trust me.....I know what Truxton is. Ha ha. I used to play the Sega one a lot at a friend's house and always loved it. Awesome game. But, it was never on the TurboGrafx. It was, however it appears after FINALLY finding it online, on the PC-Engine by the name of Tatsujun. That is what threw me, I had no idea it was ever on the Japanese console. Cool....maybe I can snag it and do an "import" review someday. Thanks for pointing that out, wohoo!!!
I'm a little surprised you reviewed this one quite so highly. Lots of turbo aficionados I know, including me, have always had a love/hate relationship with this one. Cotton's hit box is too big, and she moves way too slow. It's sad, because the arcade version plays much better (and has noticeably better graphics), but lacks the TGX/ PCE-CD remastered soundtrack. TBH, the soundtrack was the reason I bought the game! Great review!
@vincentx77 Cool. What can I say? A lot of Turbo aficionados LOVE some Keith Courage....and I just shake-my-head in confusion. So....ha ha. I love this one....Thanks for watching!
This game reminds me of Cauldron for the ZX Spectrum, Amstrad CPC and the Commodore 64. If anyone is unfamiliar with that game, check it out. Just like this game, you are a witch that flies around on a broom and shoot enemies and such. Thanks for the video Chris. I really enjoyed it.
I have the Saturn Japanese version of this game somewhere. I remember cuz I had that action replay cart that expanded the ram and unlocked the region on the american Saturn. Cool game for that system too.
@ingentingfilmen I think a lot of collectors have a love / hate with it. You know? Well.....I think you know what I think. Ha ha. Thanks for watching!
Wow! I thought I was the only person who had ever finished the second pass of the game. Good going, Chris! I know how hard it is.

MasterNinja1990 4 months ago
@MasterNinja1990 Hey Master Ninja! How'z it going? Um......Truxton? I know Truxton isn't on the TurboGrafx.....was there a PC-Engine version out there?
spida1a 4 months ago
Well, I feel good. A positive attitude always wins the game. You should know that you are a gamer =) Truxton is an awesome (in my opinion the best), shoot em up. Its an old arcade game from 1988. It was known as Tatsujin in Japan. The game was ported to Sega Mega Drive 1989 and to Turbo Grafx-16 1992. Just check out wikipedia or some other info site for more info. Would be morphinominal if you could do a review of my favorite game ever.
MasterNinja1990 4 months ago

Great review!
vincentx77 4 months ago
