We do not give up cars just because they are older. Just fix the damn thing as needed. My wife has 04 with only 100k, we will have it many many many more years and at least over 300k. I own an 87 Chevy Sprint Turbo with 193k and a 1992 VW GTI 16v with 188k just beginning to walk. I might sell one to them, but i will not sell one to get something else unless there is some major need/change in life requiring a different kind of vehicle all together or something.
Whoever made this commercial should have their ass kicked. What an insult to Subaru owners everywhere!! I can't believe Subaru aired this!! My '85 GL still looks & runs like a champ at 430K, and I'll go to my grave before it goes to a junkyard!
What a waste of a good car. My '98 Forester is still alive and kicking. Sure, it has it's quirks. Sure, it's been a bit of a money pit lately. In the end, though, she's my baby and I would never give her up as easily as this guy did.
Sad because the guy who delivers my mail drives an old Legacy Wagon and has 400k something miles on it. He has rebuilt the auto trans once and had the head gaskets replaced.. That is IT aside from wear parts. He still delivers my mail in that thing. He has been hit 5 times by other cars (dangerous being a rural mail carrier and the car has a salvage title being totaled twice.. And it keeps going. He was never hurt in any of the wrecks. AWESOME CAR!
@electrifiedcreations I'm in Tucson. I actually saw 2 Subie 360's at a garage where they mostly work on Eurpean cars. They really liked my Brat, and said the 360s are for sale! I can't afford 'em, cuz they need a truckload of work.
You take a Yuppie... who knows nothing about cars... but he's got glasses and that really makes him smart...
He drives his perfectly good car... to a junkyard...
Why???.... like the advertising geeks who wrote this... he doesn't even own a screwdriver. He's a fashion phony... dressed to make him ambiguous and righteous so that you'll be teary about the car.
But it's just an f'n car... not a cute brunette named Andrea at the agency... he leaves the car.. and rides a Schwinn...
Im not terribly keen on the idea of the environmental impacts this add implies. Is Subaru advocating vehicle abandonment? Littering? Junkers, left on a hill to rot away and spoil the pureness of the back country with oil, transmission fluid and rust? Are they saying that environmental responsibility is not their problem and the owners of their products shouldnt worry about it either?
I recently sold my 1999 Subaru Impreza 2.5 RS. This commercial, for some reason, makes my eyes water now. I never thought I would be a car person, that is, until I purchased my Subaru.
I wouldn't have put the old Forester in Subaru heaven until it didn't run anymore which his must have run fine with 300,000 miles if it drove two days with no problems
The tune is called "To Lay Me Down", music written by Jerry Garcia, lyrics by Robert Hunter. I have no idea who is covering it in the vid, but truly is a beautiful, and touching tune.

for a company who claims to care about the environment as much as subaru does, its odd they advocate illegal dumping of a car in running order, on a hillside. no disposal of toxic chemicals like old oil, gasoline, and coolant.
I know, thats how yuppies are they got a new one so there is no use for the old perfectly running one. That was one ugly forester considering they've been in production for only 10 years or so. I would drive it.
I agree They have only been in production since 1998 and that one had a diffrent color door and everything. People really beat on things now a days and get really tired of them. There should be a green forester in thta salvage yard with out its driver side front door. That car had at leat 3 yaers of life in it and about another 100k on the motor.

Indeed, junking a perfectly-running car is stupid.
Especially when the car being junked is a REAL Subaru, not that Toyota Highlander the guy drives home in.

Why the hell would you get rid of a perfectly good Forester? And that's not what Subaru heaven looks like either.
