  • Alan was the best looking member in depeche mode

  • why was i born in 1981?

  • I miss you not being in Depeche mode any more as you were my favourite member of Depeche mode and you are a very great musician and a very good backing singer

  • He missed the note on 0:42. :D

  • please alan show me the secrets of IN YOU MEMORY bass line ;+)

  • Alan Wilder was lovely , so handsome and you are only limited by what you can do with your hands lol x

  • I don't know if I'm the only one who believes this but I think he will definitely come back for the next album. And why does everyone hate Ultra?! That's one of my best albums from DM...Although Alan was not involved it set a new tone for the band...especially for the 90's.

  • The best!!

    From Italy

    depeche mode <3

  • alan was/is/will be my favourite DM member,

    the sweetest thing :)

  • I want you come back to DM!!! PLEASE!!!!!!

  • I'm a 35 year old heterosexual male but i've always had a bit of a man crush on Alan Wilder.

  • Allan's explanation of the keyboard, "Nothing" performed in New Mexico, and DM's performance at the Rose Bowl = the best parts in 101.

  • I wish he would go back to depeche mode. There music is great now but with him around they could make something really special.

  • Met him, and have that synth he's playing there, an Emu Emax... He's a really nice bloke. Got into DM late 80's. Without sounding like a sad teenager, he's always been my inspiration.

  • Why I was born in 1980? :(

  • Where exactly is this video on DVD? I have a two-disk set of the 101 concert; couldn't find it anywhere.

  • I love this part of the video! ♥

  • Washon!

con un profe asi de musica ...aprendo de todo ! :P

    Greetings!! ^^

  • Que profesor tan bueno....en todos los sentidos :P

  • is beautifull alan *_*

  • *Sigh* Talented, handsome, intelligent, classy, and he's got that incredibly sexy british accent... *sigh* Dreamyyyy....

  • Alan Wilder....My McDreamy

  • @ameliedaee Definitely for me as well......<3

  • You are SO SWEET!!

  • How much does Alan sound like Nigel Tufnel showing off his equipment? "Listen to the sustain on the sounds!", "This sampler goes up to 11"

    :D

  • I'm half in love with the man so I didn't even notice, but YES he does sound like Nigel Tufnel! Holy crap you're good!

  • hello people, i am overwhelmed by your responses. Indeed Alan is remarkably special. Thank you all!

    Peace.

  • Say what you want to say but it's the talent that matters. No fag issue's going to turn somebody down when it all boils down to talent.

  • Alan is never coming back.

  • holy crap he's too beautiful!!!!!!!!!

  • YEAH COME BACK ALAN!

  • Thanks for putting this clip! Lost my 101 video...

    Alan, come back!!

  • Happy Birthday to Alan^^

  • I still love Depeche Mode and listen to their records, but I agree with the part that without Alan they've lost a lot. This guy is extremely talented and a classically trained musician. He knew music, how to create new sounds and catchy melodies. None of DM's later albums achieved the success of what Wilder years got. I wish he would turn back to DM. We've missed him a lot...

  • Genius ! please come back

  • He really likes the technical details of what he does, he is kind of a electronic music geek.

  • dun you just love his english accent, and he speaks so well, its so pleasant to hear him talk and take the time to explain things so simply and clearly...

  • YES!!! My favorite scene in 101! I think this had a big influence on me starting myself with making electronic music by getting a synth (Kawai K1 II) and a sequencer (Yamaha QX 21) back in 1990.

  • Depeche Mode will never be the same without Alan. Martin wrote the songs, Alan composed the music, Dave sang, Fletch...well...

All Alan wanted was a raise. After the success of Violater and SOFAD (#1), he asked that the band members all receive the same pay. Martin and Dave were getting paid more than Alan and Fletch. Martin told him no. So he left. This is what I read in "Stripped", a great book on DM. The albums he was a part of were the best DM albums. Their new stuff is awful!

  • for me, he's the best <3

  • Alan is recoil

    DM is THE MODE..

    DM For Universe !!!

  • We miss you Alan...

  • Alan "ghost"came back with Playing the angel

  • I was being a smartass and asked Alan a few years ago if he felt bad for messing up during this demonstration on 101. His reply - "I didn't lose any sleep over it."

  • :)))) Well, I'm sure he didn't. Besides, he had a good excuse, he messed up while looking at the camera.

  • we love alan

  • DM is still a good band but they are a different band now. In terms of their musical output without Alan, it is nowhere near the same, folks. Doesn't matter what you think of Mr. Wilder, the music has changed. I can't speak for anybody else but I'll take Black Celebration, Music For The Masses and Violator over Ultra, Exciter, and Playing The Angel any day!!

  • I'll second that...the coolest and most intelligent member of Depeche, without a doubt.

  • What about Songs of Faith and Devotion?

  • Good album but a bit too rocky for my taste in some instances. Now, Some Great Reward is another story. That was my first DM album I bought back in the day (still have the cassette). : ) SGR will always be one of my favorite DM albums, along with the ones I mentioned above.

  • I second that as well, only to add Ultra as an amazing album. The sound that Tim Simenon achieved with his talent and influence was superb. You can actually feel Alan's "school of production" in almost every song. Then they almost completely lost it, the quality of Martin and Dave songs is on the downslide and I don't understand why they insist on producers like Mark Bell and Ben Hillier.

  • Agree. Ultra is even maybe one of their greatest albums, ironically it`s their crisis album, it`s Simenon`s album and the only album they used numerous guests.

  • You´re right that it is Simenon´s and his team´s work - they were called in to replace Alan. They might have realised by then that Alan was there for a purpose. I don´t agree with you that´s it is their best album, I mean it has a great "A-side" but after Useless the album loses it for me. Insight being an exceptional exception:-) - love that track

  • Alan was an important part of DM...

  • Other than the last 30 minutes of the film and "nothing" in the middle of 101, Alan's demonstration of his synth made putting up with those fucking annoying kids in the film worth watching 101 in entirety.

  • If I had to choose to go bi or get murdered, it would def be for this guy.

    Love for 80's synths/samplers = <3

  • i have a bf that looks just like him

  • What do you call the pads that are connected to the keyboard? Ive always been curious! LOVE DM and Alan!!!

  • aw he made a little mistake...just goes to show that even people as ultra-talented as alan can make mistakes :)

  • dm no is same alan, please come back.

  • I don't see how this could be the "Spinal Tap" bit of 101, there's nothing cringeworthy in there. I liked this bit, because I loved the song "Black Celebration" (and the 101 version in particular).

I'm glad it didn't get cut from the movie.

  • oh yeah- Alan is my Idol:)

  • I adore Alan's blue eyes and dark brown hair. :D

  • i love you alan

  • how awesome is this guy?

  • Alan you are the best

  • btw, alan has magic hands :]

  • what year is this?

  • 1988

  • Since Alan was left the band, Depeche Mode is almost nothing...

  • I wouldn't go that far but I agree with you that it took DM years to gain back it's full stride since Alan departed in the 90's.

  • I LOVE YOU MARRY ME

  • Alan, please come back, we love you

  • aww, who doesn't love Alan

  • we miss you

  • He's a nice guy without any star affectations, too.

  • Alan is a consumate professional and responsible for sounds and riffs that DM made their trademark! I love this clip because its so Alan, understated and yet quietly pleased with his work. Respect indeed for one of life's true artists. Pure class.

  • Yeah, he's completely a genius...Nobody could've made "Walking in my shoes" sound so great, for example...also his works with Recoil are also great, you can see his craftsmanship in sound modeling, composition and arrangements, truly brilliant

  • I really like his work in Recoil! Actually, I like a lot drifting! I don't know why, but Recoil songs remind me a bit of the album 'Black Celebration'. I mean, they are a bit dark and psychedelic... but still awesome! Alan Wilder, je t'adore!!!!!

  • When I say psychedelic, I don't mean that his music is hippie!!! Lol, where the heck did I make this up????????? Alan makes me lose my words, I don't know what to say!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! All I wanna say is that...:

ALAN WILDER, I LOOOOOOOVE YOU MORE THAN ANYTHING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Oh my goodness!!! He's soooooooooooo sweet!!!!!!! I always knew that he's a genius!!!! It's awesome........

  • he's a master!!

  • this guy is a genious

  • "You're only limited by what you can manage with your hands" -- enough said, Alan!!!

  • IT'S CUT OFF, I WANT TO KNOW MORE!>:C My mom will love this. XD

    Alan is the man!

  • Depeche Mode without him is not the same ...

i love this moment from 101, it shows how Alan is really gifted...

    and his image, Jesus! ;)

  • this is fucking brilliant beyond what it appears to be. he is showing how one of the most powerful things in music is done by a brilliant musician. righteous

  • He is pretty damn good, I miss him. Depeche mode forever.

  • What a genius!!!

  • Alan is one of the sexiest man in the universe.....

  • Alan is the sexiest & cutest guy ever

  • Is this scene from 101? Tell the truth I think. He is very talanted, I was so sad when he was leaving DM. They should have been better together. I have never heard such a great album after Violator. ( I was not able to like SOFAD and Exciter..). And he is so sexy (incidentally).

  • Yes these Scene is from the film 101! Unfortunately, Alan Depeche Mode has left. However, Alan further does with music. His new album is Subhuman! Excellent!!!!

  • SOFAD is a good album imho

btw they ve recorded sofad with Alan ;)

And Exciter you are right is not audible ((

  • SOFAD is a good album imho

btw they ve recorded sofad with Alan ;)

And Exciter you are right is not audible ((

  • Sorry to break it to you, by Alan is largely responsible for the (amazing, btw) sound of SOFAD... He left AFTER the World Violation Tour.

  • he left after the Devotional tour,pal...

  • He left AFTER the devotional-exotic tour

  • Oh, I'm reading 'Stripped' at the moment. Good book!

  • How adorable is this clip? :)

  • Alan Wilder = Rules !!! The best Keybordplayer of the World!

  • WHAT??? and what about nick rhodes? tell me ur comment. :I

  • Nick Rodes indeed talent, however, does not have the class of Alan. Im Sorry ;-)

  • need go to get my laundry from the tumble dryer

  • Aan, you were great, thank you for the great music.

But you have lost your gifted talent as a composer when you quit the band.

Because you have to be around great musician influence like Gore and Graham to make good music.

  • thank u all for all the wonderful comments. undoubtably, DM can never be the same without him. where i started, it was from no one but him. cheers to all of u!

  • He was a good technican, musician and the best what could have happened to DM. Considering he was "found" by an add in the NME. Plus being good looking. Pity he left.

  • That looks like an emax1 or emu 2, I think?

  • Emax I HD

  • the best keybord player in the world

  • Not the best but one of the best.

He's certainly no beethoven or mozart but yes he is good.

  • Alan Wilder The SYNTH Genius!! DM will never be the same again without you.

  • I love you Alan :)

  • oh yes i remember that scene. It's from the Depeche Mode movie "101".

  • alan is great!!!

  • Alan è l'uomo più attraente della terra!!!! I love you so much!!!!!

  • nn 6 l'unica!!!

    è bellissimo!

  • Right, peccato ke i tempi nn sn quelli di prima!!!nn voglio vedere i DM come un trio, voglio anke lui!!!

  • anke io e nn sai qnt...

    alan we miss you!

  • I believe he is using a TURBO MAX EMULATOR keyboard, I know that is what they used on the WORLD VIOLATION TOUR. I use the E MAX II EMULATOR....It looks just like it, so I could be off...

  • I always thought that Martin made the song. Alan is for real talented.

  • I love you alan!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I have that keyboard!!!

  • hey, can you tell me the name of that keyboard he uses.

  • oh wow hot stuff.

  • I like Alan very much and I love his works. He plays keyboards with real passion.

  • I always thought he was the cutest of the bunch.

  • Snuggie, for your comment, I expect you to receive a million hugs from Wilder fans. Well, personally, I think his looks were just a plus. It's his talent that won him admiration.

  • Just listened to the 101 commentary, & it's funny to hear that this section is seen as being a bit embarassing and 'Spinal Tap.' Anyway, I love it & I'm glad that it made it into the final film :)

  • .. and which question would that be?

  • NO I LOVE him hehe

  • my absolute favourite scene from 101

  • I love Alan, esp. in this scene. Gorgeous, talented, eloquent...I wish I'd had a music teacher like him when I was at school!

  • Alan is the best !

  • ..thats a first..LOL

  • thanks so much for posting this!!! i love this bit!

  • alan, andy, marty masters of the emulators!!!!!!!!!

  • I love Alan too, he is great :D

  • I love this video!!!

  • hes the hottest guy ever. who just so happend to be in my fave band ever. yay!!!

  • Alan, Martin, and Fletch used E-Max II's on the 1988 tour. Pity I can't afford one in 2007!

  • yes, its an emax <3

and is it a roland d-50 under?

    love Alan<3

  • GAWD he's so hot... i nearly minored in electronic music because of this man... not just because he's gorgeous but because he was the musical genius behind songs like "Black Celebration" and it was because of him that "Enjoy the Silence" became a dance song and not a ballad like how Martin Gore wanted.

  • tu nous manque alan

  • at age 14 I saw this video, and it helped spark a passion for electronic music that lasts to this day.

oh, and the keyboard is an Emu EMAX. the EMAX II, its successor, had 99 banks possible and came out later than this video was made. I had one for years (largly because of this video)

  • Oh i love this outtake of the 101 DVD....It's sooo cute and he's awesome!!

  • Alan Wilder always The Best...you can get keabord lessons by him!

  • is it an Emulator III ??

  • emulator II was used during some great reward tour

  • i have this DVD, i missed it, probably in the special features.

  • no its in the 101 film itself

  • What's the location? Looks like hamburg!?

  • Dude - it's in the Rosebowl - Pasadena - you can find it on the 101 dvd. Check it out!!!

    RJ

  • this was not filmed at the rose bowl... this is from 101, but this specific scene was not filmed at the rose bowl

  • 101 only focused in the U.S tour. i believe this is Arizona not sure

  • lol

  • I used to rewind the video tape of 101 too and watch Alan explain all about the construction of their songs! Great part of the film and very useful for me back then...

  • God I love this bit - this is my favourite part in 101 - I used to forward the video to this bit and watch it again and again. Alan is the man! And still hot, I'm pleased to see.

  • My favourite "non-concert" part of the 101 movie. Genius.

  • OMG I LOVE ALAN =D <3 Thanks for posting!

  • oh he is soooooooooo hot

  • "You're only limited by what you can manage with your hands."

    Oh God yes.

  • Wise words.. That's why I love Alan too!!!

    =P

  • although he is not the chief song writer, he is the brains behind DM. EXCELLENT!

  • The Best "Black Celebration" Demo!!!!

  • Good demo! The other members of Depeche Mode also miss Alan.

  • what a sexy,sexy man!!

  • i agree ; )

  • Just cant explain, no words to say what I feel...Man!

  • Alan Wilder = World's most loved nerd :)

  • Hahahahaa, look the DM lives from 1982 when Alan had just replaced Vince -- you see bold and starring professional who`s just helping these lucky Basildon nerds. Nothing less.

  • Great hairstyle!!;>
