Recently bought some timber blinds that indicated on the package that they could be shortened. The instructions inside however, didn't make any mention of exactly how to shorten them. This video was really useful, and I have now successfully installed and shortened them. Given that I am the most un-handy person on the planet, this is a real achievement!
I just moved into an apartment and it has these kinds of blinds. I thought they could be shorten but I thought it had to be done professionally. I had no idea it was this easy. I have like 10 extra slates that sit on my window sill when the blinds are down. Time to fix that.
Thank you so much!!! My wife and I have gone like 2 years with excess ladders on our window seal! Thanks to your instruction, I got rid of them! Thank you!!!
I also need help with the wide blinds with the pully system. I'm at a loss. This vid was very helpful for my smaller windows but I'm stuck on how to shorten the blinds for my wider windows.
What about the WIDER type blinds that have some sort of roller mechinism in the bottom section?
The method shown in this video worked for my little blinds, but I have a much wider set that has some weird metal rollers in the bottom... and it looks like IF I were to start cutting strings, I'd never get them to work again.
If a levelor cordless.... remove bottom rail end caps, slide out bottom cover, remove excess slats, trim the smaller ladder strings, pull the ladder string through the bottom rail, tie not, slide in bottom cover, and reassemble end caps. DO NOT cut the cords that roll into the mechanism. Good Luck!
Thank You. I was trying to understand the diagrams that I had found on the internet, but this video helped explain in much better detail. Now I understand!

Your instructional illustration is so useful. Well done and thank you.
Is it possible to also prepare a text version of your instruction?
Once again thank you.
I will let you know how it goes.

We just purchased 30 blinds for our home. The price to shorten blinds was over $25 per window. I'm encouraged to try it myself now- thanks!

Wow I wish the instruction that came with my blind had told me to look here first.
