The song itself is the theme from the 1952 movie "Invitation", starring Van Johnson and Dorothy McGuire. Over the years it's become a jazz standard.

@johlt I thought it originated in the 1949 flick with Lana Turner "A Life Of Her Own".I just watched the movie and cross referenced it with this rendition that I knew.It was apparently then used in the 1952 movie, and as you said became a jazz standard. Love it.

When I was a Kid this song used to scare the shit out of me.But over the years I found meself thinking about it and it takes me back to a time when I watch Spider-man Tom and Jerry The Monkees and all on WFLD Channel 32. Ah the good ol days.

I grew up in California and do not recall hearing this in any of our community calenders. I actually discovered this song here on youtube. It was a combination of creepy, bizarre, cool and different just from the brief snippet from the Chicago community calender commercials I've seen. It's actually a good song.

WFLD Chicago was a Field Communications station but California had one also (KBHK ,San Francisco).The Field stations carry the same graphics and things of that nature,but I think the community services programs and info spots are products of the in-house production staff of each station and varies from one station to another. I always loved this song as a kid and when I found the entire song,I had to post it. Thanks for watching.

Well, I won't lie...I used to HATE this song as it was played for Community Calendar, it was eerie somehow to my young ears. Once I knew what it was and heard it in full...it's pretty cool!

And yeah, every time I hear those bars I think "Channel 32"...just like every time I hear the opening to Roger Whittaker's "The Last Farewell" I think "Channel 9"!

I ALWAYS wondered what that song was and who it was by!! It sounded mysterious to me as a kid,but it sounded kinda cool to me! When i found out it was Maynard Ferguson,I had to find and post it!!

And yes everytime I hear those horns on "The Last Farewell",in my mind I see that big "9" with "WGN TV CHICAGO" spinning around it and hear the voice-overs -"WGN television Chicago at seven o' clock".
