I think it is important to be objective, lol. Everyone has their favorite team, and pretty much all the announcers around the league are homers. I have been a Sabres fan since the mid 70's. The Sabres were not a tough team at this point and Maguire was just trying to get the rest of the Sabres to man up. Yzerman did what a good team captain would do, but he was the one who pursued it with Maguire.
I like probe but this was disgraceful. You don't hit a guy when he's down on the ice being held by officials when he doesn't know you're there. Probie wasn't even in the fight. If he wanted to get back at him challenge him straight up later.

As for not fighting a star player, well Yzerman was foolish enough to go after Maguire, it wasn't the other way around. Someone comes after me, I'm going to do my best to beat them down no matter who it is. Really it was Probert's fault that his goal got run and his star player took a beating.

While I give him credit for sticking up for his goalie, it was a stupid move on his part. He had his ass handed to him. If you're going to jump someone you might get beat down. And as I said before the whole series of events was Probert's fault to begin with. He ran the Buffalo goal earlier in that game.
