There's nothing here that would even make you imagine that she's one of the greatest voices in opera today. Hard to believe that this same voice can encompass the works of Massenet, Rossini, Bellini, Strauss, and so many others. She sounds so great here that she could abandon opera (which she NEVER will!) and make a new career.
Renee can sing the phone book in either her opera voice or this voice and it'd be like hearing the angels sing. Absolutely perfect. I have the Dark Hope CD and it's one of the best CDs I own.
This is just so boring, dull, with no soul. That something magical you just can't put your finger on is missing. The way she sings some words sounds weird too.
I have this album and I have to say that it is almost hypnoticly good! It She is the premiere soprano inthe world today and when she sings classical and opera, she sings two octaves higher than she does here...I am not used to her singing in this low a voice, but I have come to love it!
the mic is in her way!!! RF can just blast this simple piece without any amplification! Violin is good - very much needed to accompany the voice. other electronic devices should just be put away and exchanged for original ones. guitar just toss - can't get any sound out of that thing.
what a transgression...well done Ms. Fleming...like it. Maybe more of the opera divas should attempt this kind of music....not many can do it successfully....I love this voice ..will be buying this album.

It's amazing what a bit of slap can do for 51 year old, looks like she lost a few pounds as well.... remember seeing some pics where she looked a bit of a heff...

As in everything this woman tries, operatic or not, there's as much personality, charisma and energy as a wet noodle, all bland and lifeless. All vulgar all the time all the same.
-First of all a huge bravo to the Muse for composing an incredible song (Sing for Absolution is also fantastic)
-Renee really managed this voice to completely obliterate the operatic sound from her voice something that extremely few operatic singers can do in a natural way (it requires enormous! vocal talent to be able to switch like this)
-Finally the lower parts of her voice are as beautiful and enchanting as the upper parts.

@asdfopera No sweetheart. It's about deriving some pleasure out of tragi-comedy, hers and that of deaf and unquestioning fans such as LohengrinT and yourself. About the tragi-comedy, it's all unfolding before our ears so I haven't decided which part outweighs the other. I'll let you know when I do.
LOL, yet you like stupidas like Cheryl? Bitch, puh-leeee-zah! at least have some better taste than that! You are just one of those ridiculous queens who only listen to canaries in order to hear the final high E-flat.

@primohomme No sweetie, it is you who is the deaf one, for you cannot (or refuse to) acknowledge or hear your fave's crossover, scattin' shit. Or your fave's oily, scattin' shit spread all over her classical rep, like cheap lard on stale bread.
LOL don't be mad coz your fave is a nobody only ugly nasty tone-deaf queens know about and Renee is a goddess who sings regularly at the MET and has sung at some of the most important events in recent history such as 9/11 Memorial, Obama's inauguration ceremony, etc or has been asked by film directors to lend her voice to music for their BIG time movies.
LOL, I don't go to your faves videos and talk shit...so if you don't like Renee, what do the hell do you do here? Go listen to some silly tinpot coloratura please
It's wonderful that she can switch styles this way. Last Saturday it was Armida, today it was Indie pop, next month it will be Strauss and Verdi. In this song her voice is dark and seductive. Stylistically this different from her signature opera roles, but it's the same beautiful voice. I'm eager to hear the rest of the album when it's released in the US.
really rare type of voice amazing

@wallaabo New to her. :)
jprush 1 year ago
@jprush Yeah, but still. I feel that they should mention it somewhere -.-
Anyway, a good cover, prefer Muse but still, she does it justice.
wallaabo 1 year ago
@wallaabo True, however to mention Muse would be undue promotion and would undermine RF... that's bad for everyone =/
I do like this, she does it justice but we ALL know it won't compete with the original. I mean come on, Matt Bellamy is a frickin' genius.
idifferfromyou2008 1 year ago
@idifferfromyou2008 Fair enough. I can accept that.
And yes, it is a cover that is good but it can't be compared to the original. That is in a league of it own.
