What extra bits do you need to buy to plug in your ipod and also can you connect it to a normal pair of speakers?

I believe it comes with the wire to connect your ipod...i think its just a stereo to stereo plug. I am not sure about the speakers, I would assume so, as I have the PM01 monitor...which I just connect it to the output. Hope I answered your questions...

how do you like the hd-1 so far? Is it easy to get used to?

I like it because it is small and doesnt take a lot of space. However I am 5'9 and can get a little uncomfortbale at times. It is also very quiet. I just started playing the drums and I love it, very easy to use.
