Am I alone that in the first time hearing BOTH Kaleidoscope bands (US & UK) that it was confusing to know which one it was? (hint: it's the vocalists in each band)
@psychesoap , you're right, this one sounds a lot like something the british Kaleidoscope band could have done (even if I know that it is US Kaleidoscope).
when i was nine or ten, i found a tape of my father with songs from kaleidoscope and other bands of that time.every night i lyed on my bed and was listening to the songs.this was my favorite.it reminded of something weird like beeing inside a kaleidoscope or a crystal ball or travelling on ship...thank you very much for uploading this.:)
Emma I would love to hear again My Loves Comes Soflty fro their When the Scopes Collide.. It is ages I haven't but the melody lingers hauntingly beautiful in my head
Keep Your Mind Open - Kaleidoscope [Los Angeles, California] - 1967 - "One of my BEST. Very GOOD first impression. The BEST soft psych song on this CD. War sounds in the background." - Pulsating Dream - The Epic Recordings (Disc 1)-2004. NOTE: The UK band by the same name is ok, but I think I prefer the LA band. :-)

Much too short, I think they hoped for AM radio play with this one. Still, this song was one of the best anti-war lyrics of 1967. "Still love remains in some strong heart. Keep your mind open."

No, this is not expanding on anything or being in a different way. It is pure commercialism and a mockery of the culture which produces black artists like Little Richard. Pat Boone's version of those song come from nowhere. There's no culture represented any of Pat Boone's copies. It's an attempt to say that mainstream or middle of the road music that cannot possibly offend anyone's senses is an answer to the challenge that is implicit in Little Richard's music. That it comes from the soul.
Black artists may be more likely to have one track minds, but whites sure do like to copy them and music execs and the like sure have historically cheated them out of money for rights to their own material. Little Richard actually made Long Tall Sally so fast because he didn't want Pat Boone to copy it and make more mainstream money than LR could off the real lovers of the music.
I love black musicians and they usually create elegant and marvelous music but i can't stand their "Super God" and "Ultimate Truth" theory for their kind.
Instead of "copy" you would say "expand" or "in a different way". This is very important for me, even when the "copies" have lower quality compared to "originals".
"One nation under a groove" will never be, you know...
How can I not know what you said is true about Oh, Death. It's better than any of the original versions done by black singers from the south; maybe not quite as authentic, but still better. There is just nobody out there who did what Kaleidoscope did or who did a song better. Only Clarence Ashley's Cuckoo Bird, but you can't compare the two anyway.
This may be the best song they've done with the exception of....Seven-Ate Sweet. You said you take requests. I would like to see that on YouTube more than any other piece of music ever made. The best, most creative rock tune made. It is based on an old Greek dance melody.

I hate Patty, i like Little Richard and i love Chuck Berry (hey, he is black!!). Most of all i like heavy metal (whatever this means).
I agree with you and with challenge and soul.

Kaleidoscope is not an one track mind band. Black artists usually are.
Keep your mind open.
