I don't condone the behavior. I'm sure Rodrigo is embarassed. Haters will always hate. I'm just glad I'm not training with those that don't appreciate the "throw back " like I did . I see a bit of ego, heart and passion, all things that come with the sport. "JUI-JITSU!" LMFAO
He is my instructor and he is a great great trainer. I encourage everyone to take up BJJ and if you can learn from Rodrigo do it he is very good and teaching each move step by step until you learn it properly
I've had the luxury of training with Rodigo for a while. I'm with an affiliate school of his now but used to train under himself and Micah full time. He is a completley respectable fighter and martial artist.
That was me, aka Dave Carson. The story behind the fight is pretty interesting. I did get beat, but that day I fought double weight classes. I beat his brother, and they told me they were going for a trophy arm. The video doesn't show it but his coach punches the ref.
I don't know the other guy, my arm wasn't broken because I tapped early, when knowing I was caught. If I wouldnt have, it would have been bad for.
Now this guy is a black belt in BJJ and he is no joke. I have heard some good things about him. The ref was local bjj instructor at the time and I think that had something to do with the scuffle. Rodrigo was from Brazil and probably felt he had something to prove. The best place to train BJJ is with Brian Johnson at NW BJJ. He will smoke your ass. Look at his matches at the 2008 grapplers quest and 2nd place at the BJJ worlds.
Yeah, I've met Rodrigo a few times myself, and I have to say, he's a pretty mellow, easy-going guy. You don't know what happened prior to it. Is this a BJJ or judo tournament, btw?
I know Rodrigo, and he is a great/nice person. The devil is in the details that none of us know. The guy is probably lucky his arm didn't get broken. I hope it all got ironed out.
Unfortunately this was during a time when ppl said "Take their arm for a trophy." in the NW. I'm from Seattle I remember when this happened. Rodrigo is prolly ashamed of this vid if you showed him today.
Then what? This video is very old and Rodrigo was very young back then. I train at his school and everyone there is very kind and helpful. Don't judge everything based on a ten year old video.
i want more of these old videos! i was there, i want to see my old self compete. this shit was a SCANDAL back then! lol! the ref was my very first bjj instructor, Glen Barber. Rodrigo is a cool guy, but 10 years ago we all had cold blood. SubZero is totally right! now all of us are a bunch of half cripples who run schools:) i run a school down in Tacoma and i am affiliated with Micah. Me(Jimmy),Big John,Stevie T. and Micah, all white belts together! all bb's but me now! Big John=Black Belt WORD
Hey Jimmy, how's it going? I actually remember training with you over a decade ago.
I'm glad you enjoyed the vids. I was hoping people would enjoy the nostalgia of early BJJ and MMA in Washington, as well as seeing early footage of Brian Johnson, Brian Ford, Jeff Monson, Dennis Hallman, etc, all who have done amazingly well over the years.
Since you ask, I believe that I do have some footage of you competing, some time in late 1996 if I'm correct. Currently, my 8mm tape player is busted...
that would be awesome! if you happen to find one from my first tournament...well, it was pretty boring! lol! i actually met glen there, but i took 1st in the one that started standing and went to submissions. all i knew then was from watching Royce! then there was the time that i got really cocky, they needed a guy for the weight class above us & i thought that sounded dandy...i almost think it was Ford who choked my neck? lol! other than that, it will look like all i knew was a triangle!
really bad form, as in not a good representative of the sport. That guy was a douche and his school celebrating him doing that reflects very poorly on them.
dude I train jiu jistu and everyone knows when someone tap you let go. That was dirty and embarrassing and you should not post this vide. It makes rest of us look bad
