I'm doing a britpop piece and my main instrument is drums. I'm finding it really hard to get research for the controlled assesment sheet. I need to comment of the purpose of the piece (which is a grade piece and has no lyrics) and the role my instrument plays :S Any advice?
@LemonyEmilyXD Ah sorry for taking so long to reply, ermm i didnt actually do my exams on drums even though im a drummer i did them on guitar, for the exact reason your mentioning, its hard commenting on musicality of drums. But i would mention everything that just seems to be obvious, you will still get marks for mentioning it, for example the drums keep the rhythm... yes really that obvious, and i think i got an A for my compositions.
mine would have been so much better if the facilities at school were better. we had one accient recorder no multitracking/drum machine/midi sm8/condenser
@CDH015 Ermm, I used a bass (vox standard bass), a guitar (Danelectro U2), a Drum machine (software - cant really remember what i was using at this point :p ) and a Midi controller keyboard hooked up to kontakt player with an organ plugin - cant remember which one. Pretty simple really, i just achieved the sound with few instruments by layering it alot and thats probably why you couldn't pick them out. If that helps? :)
@ints13 Oh shit i havn't been on youtube in ages. But as for the comment :D thankyou that is a lovely compliment although i dont agree :p Since GCSE's iv moved to drums anyway and find myself alot more natural to the instrument that i am and was at guitar. But i guess rating the composition isn't how well its played but the piece itself so thankyou i will take the compliment :D
Well i would say if music is what you want to do then go for it, How hard it is shouldn't hinder what you want to do. Alot of GCSE music is just basic theory and listening skills - If you concider that when i was in high school i had about 20% attendance and still managed to get a B in music then its not too hard aslong as you put effort into getting the basics of theory and putting effort into your compositions and performances then its fine. Goodluck :)
Music GCSE is pretty easy if your willing to learn
Its Theory where people go wrong the most. I'm one of them.
You maybe the greatest guitarist there is and get a very high grade for the composition but if you screw up theory then your screwed (Happened to my brother)
Your also going to do the new Syllabus I'm doing which from what I have heard, it Much easier then the Old one so consider yourself lucky (I'm a GCSE Student ask me anything you need to know about it)
Wow this was really interesting. If all of those instruments were you - that was fantastic mate - the guitars realy work - and edexcel like you to follow the typical features i.e. typical instrumentation - BUT!
WHERE ARE THE LYRICS?!
Its rare you would find a britpop song without lyrics to the song - they are supposed to dominate the song with tuneful lovelyness.
Hey i have now jus broken up for skool from year 9 and i chose gcse music (cos i have been playing the drums for bout a year now) i was just wondering is it hard to get a gcse from cos i am really worried going in to year 10.
take up piano cuz doing music gcse rips all the fun out of music and is no way compatible for drummers. my mates really struggling. I'd change now and another subject would look infinitely better on your CV or UCAS
If you generally good at other subjects and like music then you will find the thoery easy. It seems a handful but you remember things surprisingly well around about half way through the year, and like i said if you enjoy music it sticks to you like glue.
I just went into year 11, and am working on a few pieces at once, I posted my very first thing i made if you want to watch on my channel. Making music, i assume on logic pro can vary. Sometimes and idea hits you and it sounds amazing.
Tbh. I haven't finished our course yet, but we have one SHIT music department. And we still manage to get good results. So long as you do well on your practical stuff you should be ok =]
