  • I think of puns as being a way to punk your listener. It's dominance striving. It's dog mounting dog. It's saying "I'm going to say something silly and useless on the pretext that it's humor, and you're not going to be able to do anything about it."

Alfred Hitchcock loved to play practical jokes on people too.

  • PUNS, OH PUNS.

  • puns are indeed good

  • one word. Genius.

  • Dick Cavett:

The man with the lowest stoop and most powerful suction

of any interviewer in the history of broadcasting.

  • If puns are the highest form of literature than Mr. Freeze is a literary genius.

  • 'Master Of Suspense' At his witty best

  • that voice.....I wouldnt have been able to keep a straight face

  • I was waaayy too impressed by that.

  • HEY GREAT WORDPLAY @rafaelcronin ON TWITTER

  • LOL QUDOS at the one guy in the audience that laughed at "Hes not an army man" xD

  • I have always liked puns and use them a lot. So many people hate puns however. Dunno why.

When I heard that the Hitch loved them, it made my day!

    Thank you, Mr. Hitchcock.

  • @cheeriosinabowl I agree, about time someone spoke up for puns, they don't win many friends.

  • @ninyae true, they don't win many friends. Puns require a bit of thought, some ingenuity.

  • Well, with a name like Hitchcock...

  • Dick Cavett seemed like the most average talk show host ever. I guess they all weren't Johnny Carson...we're so spoiled today with like 10 great MCs to choose from on late night.

  • you know you're an old school Englishman when your name is alfred hitchcock

  • Puns...the lowest form of wit? or the highest form of lit?

I tend to agree with Mr Hitchcock. Probably because I make and find puns quite funny

  • What is a pun or puns???

  • @georgekaplanful It's a play on words. Like he said "generalizing" and then transformed it into "General Izing"

  • Military jokes should be assigned rank. They could result in general hilarity. They could cause major laughter.

  • @randomvideowatcher Buh dun, tish.

  • @randomvideowatcher there's a colonel of truth in that

  • @randomvideowatcher Absolutely, and some comics' jokes should result in corporal punishment. I think you are on to something.

  • Gen. Ising!

  • We don't have intelligent people like this no more. He completely shut that illiterate down.

  • Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie - modern evidence?

  • I really don't care if they remake the Birds. If it sucks people will just realize even more how good Hitchcock was for making it even better back then (and that is almost certainly going to happen). I simply am just not going to go see it

  • Bakers make a lot of money, 'cause they make a lot of dough!

  • how was bay even considered

  • Well, they couldn't be stopped from remaking Psycho

  • Yes, because no one cared. But I'm trying to do the right thing.

  • A lot of that stuff in inevitable. Just don't see it. It will be terrible but the only thing you can do is not see it. The studio wants to make money. By the way, didn't Peter Jackson have the right to remake King Kong. That was excellent. A little difference I understand but hey...all the studio is going to do is tear up your petition. They don't care.

  • Yeah...they just wnt to make money. But at least, I will be relieved because I did the right thing, even if they dont really care.

  • I don't think it's the threat of a remake that offends me, but that Michael Bay is slated to direct it. THAT is an insult, my friend. It's criminal!

  • Yeah...but apparently Michael Bay is now off the film, they trying to get Martin Campbell to direct it.

  • how is it an insult? its not like the original is just gonna drop off the face of the earth or anything

  • sometimes it's good to remake a film because it allows the director to elaborate upon certain things that played a significant role in the original film, however depending on the director of the film, a remake could be a complete insult and waste of time, but I certainly hope you're not just trying to stop it because you don't want them to explore the films concept at all.

  • I'm trying to stop it, cause I don't want them to ruin the film. And if Michael Bay is indeed going to direct it, that is exactly whats gonna happen.

  • OK, nevermind. michael bay is said to be the director so if this isn't stopped it will truely be tragic.

  • @GEVMM in theater, they redo the same stories over and over again with different actors all the time. theyr is nothing wrong with that.its not an insult to want to see a different version of the same story. hitchcock will always be good no matter how many remake of this movie theyr will be.

  • @GEVMM Remaking a film is not much different from adapting a book into a film. If you have no problem with the latter, you shouldn't object to the former.

  • @dcolby5 They're afraid that we will have a repeat of the Psycho remake

  • @dcolby5 They're different mediums. Most people that watch movies don't necessarily read the books, and vice versa. I myself have never been a fan of Fiction books; now that doesn't mean I have enjoyed some.

  • @GEVMM

You do realize that you are making unnecessary free publicity for the movie? Petition is not gonna change anything, you will just make unintentional public relations campaign.

  • @PauliusTautvydas

    Very well said.

Besides, it's utterly inevitable that every movie will be made more than once eventually. That being the norm, remakes don't "harm" originals in the way people like GEVMM will have us believe. The only thing more annoying than Hollywood being unoriginal is the claim that good originals can be harmed by a copycat movie. If they can't make such intellectual distinctions, that's their problem. Don't project it on those of us who can.

  • That General Ising bit was great.

  • I love puns!

I love the way he tried to save face at the end.
