  • Ray Lewis is the best Middle Line Backer in NFL history period end of story.

  • Those old time guys like Butkus, Niechske, Huff, or Lambert couldnt make it in todays game. Do you really think they could cover Vernon Davis, Gates, or Gonzales or take down Brandon Jacobs or take down Stephen Jackson with ease like they did against smaller, unathletic guys? How about going against 320 plus linemen? I dont. LT, Lewis, and singletary are good arguements but ppl please quit with all those old time guys.

  • Ray Lewis is the best middle linebacker all time. Taylor is the best outside linebacker all time. Ray has speed , something that Dick Butkus did not have. Ray can cover backs out of the backfield.

  • Lewis is the best hands down

  • wheres patrick willis oh yeah he is still in his 4th season but he will be one when he retires

  • Dick butkus was much better than Taylor!

  • Butkus, Lewis and Lambert were great at all facets of defense. LT was great at pass rushing. He couldn't cover the pass. Bill Parcells saw how quick he was and used him as a pass rusher. (Source ESPN) The rest is history. If LT played MLB, he may not have gotten into the hall.

  • @champsx51

Probably the dumbest post I have ever read.

  • the hell dick bucktes is not second hes the best you know nothing about football

  • the hell dick bucktes is second hes the best you know nothing about football

  • singletary admitted ray lewis is better...you must be a bears homer

  • @tank0288 That's called being humble, you dickhead.

  • No, just no. LT was not even close to Butkus.

  • Garbage

  • This is an ok list, not exactly my order but top five players r almost dead on

  • Dick Butkus could kill them all

  • 1. Lawrence Taylor

    2. Dick Butkus

    3. Ray Nitschke

    4. Ray Lewis

    5. Mike Singletary

It's almost a crime to have to narrow down such a list to only 5 players. Junior Seau, Jack Ham, Jack Lambert, and many others belong up there too.

  • #1: Lawrence Taylor

    #2: Dick Butkus

    #3: Ray Lewis

    #4: Jack Lambert

    #5: Ray Nitschke

  • lawenrce taylor oover butkus you are the dumbest football fan on earth even nfl network said butkus is th ebest

  • 1#lawrence taylor

    2#ray lewis

    3#jack ham

    4#dick butkus

    #5derrick brooks

  • Suck ass, LAMBERT #1 Hands up or down.

  • ray lewis shouldnt even be on here.....all he does is hit hard...

  • @Th3RandomH3ro22 LOL what a horseshit statement.

  • #1 Lawrence Taylor

    #2 Dick Butkus

    #3 Jack Lambert

    #4 Ray Lewis

    #5 Mike Singletary

  • You guys are nuts

  • Does anyone realize how often Butkus forced fumbles, or how often he intercepted, PLUS his universal reputation for outright slaughter whenever he tackled? Butkus was the best of all time. Forget 19-0 in 1985; if the 46 Defense Bears had had Butkus, they'd have had back-to-back undefeated seasons, in 1985-1986.

  • I would have to add a few names to the list of all time greats . I would still have LT as # 1 .

  • your list is garbage bro

wher the hell is jack lambert its steeler nation all day everyday mike singletary didnt even make good plays!!!!!

  • Mike Singletary couldnt do coverage .... should be 1. Dick Butkus 2. L.T. 3. Jack Lambert 4. Ray Lewis 5. Ray Nitschke

  • have u ever heard of jack lambert?

  • L.T. is the best all time just because he is in the top 10 most NFL career sacks and still could play coverage but ray should be number 2 because ravens had the team they have now he still put up the numbers

  • agree with all of it but switch butkis and lewis

  • you fucking suck guy get off youtube

  • Ray Lewis #4 are you kidding me? He should be number 1 or 2...

  • Mike Singeltary and no Jack Lambert? What the hell is this?

  • Your all full of it, Dick told me himself top 3 Nitschke,Lambert, and Ray Lewis then his buddy Steve from Thousand Oaks BMW said fu Dick your just being modest. He said ok you tell it. Nitschke, Lambert, and Me no order no one like us.

  • @yomama42796 You obviously eat dick

  • What a gay backwards sport

  • Butkus is #1

  • if i had a dollar for every pixel in this video. i would have 1 dollar

  • 6. Ray Lewis; 5. Ray Nitschke; 4. Mike Singletary; 3. Jack Lambert; 2. Lawrence Taylor; 1. Dick Butkus.

  • Lol... dick butkus is in #2 Technical diffaculties???

  • Sorry fellas !!! Tons of amazing players on here but LT is # 1 . I hate the Giants but LT was the best !!

  • really ray lewis is at least top 3 too there buddy. LT is deff. not number one. i wud say....5. LT 4.Mike Singletary 3.Ray Lewis 2. Butkus and 1. Lambert

  • yea really. theres no way lt is better than singletary lambert or butkus. and ray lewis is deffinately top 3

  • Jack LAMBERT??? WTF You have to make room for that man...

  • it is hard to compare blitzing LBs to tackling LBs and compare before they counted tackles and now. check out my video on blitzing LBs

  • All these fucking Bears fans on here with their extreme homerism. KNOCK IT OFF. The cries for Urlacher? Seriously?

Be objective, Butkus even said LT is the best ever.

  • 31 people like this and know nothing about football

  • LT likes to rape young coochies

  • for me Ray Lewis is the best of all time...of course Butkus was great. he was maybe the best tackler ever...just an animal. but Lewis has EVERYTHING you can expect from a LB.

the reasons why I'd vote him over Butkus are his incredible speed (in his best years), perfect game reading...but most important for me: his motivation and inspiration. he is just the natural born leader and of course heart and soul of the ravens.

    just my opinion ;)

  • @Blackbird609

I actually think the whole motivation and inspiration aspect is more of a TV storyline than reality. He is really important for holding people to account and setting examples for the level of work ethic on the D (I assume). BUT, the pre-game speeches and dancing, the yelling on the field and in the huddle... all the mic'd up stuff you see... I'm not sure that really does much for the tame. All that is for Ray's ego

  • You better fucking put butkus on number one you stupid fuck. Do you even know who he is?

  • LT greatest ever

  • Gee, wonder if this guy is a Giants fan. No Jack Lambert? And Ray Lewis over Ray Nitschke? That's crazy.

  • Butkus is by far the best of all time. Singletary is definitely one of the best and a deserving hall of famer, but even out of just Chicago Linebackers he ranks 3rd behind Urlacher. Also LT was an outside linebacker, which is completely different in a 3-4 defense than any other backer on the list.

    Because of that:

    5) Lawrence Taylor

    4) Jack Lambert

    3) Ray Lewis

    2) Ray Nitschke

    1) Dick Butkus

  • SAM HUFF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Mad Respect to Mike Singletary ,but he isn't top 5 all time ,Ray Lewis is better.

  • No, no, no.... Any top Linebackers list that doesnt have Dick Butkus at number is not worth taking seriously, this person is probably just a LT fan, Besides if your doing a top 5 they might as well all be Chicago Bears, hell the position was born in Chicago!

  • ray lewis is number one

  • Where is Jack Lambert?

  • you forgot jack ham, jack lambert. it goes like this:

    5:ray lewis

    4:jack ham

    3:lawrence taylor

    2:jack lambert

    1:dick butkus

  • @JEBvideos

1- Lawrence Taylor (Watch the film, he is awesome)

2- Dick Butkus (Could also be number 1 because he was an animal)

3- Jack Lambert- (Another animal with the rings to prove it)

4- Mike Singletary- (Smart, mean, aggressive)

5- Derick Thomas (You forgot about him, another pass rush animal that could play the run)

6-Jack Ham (Another great player who was smart and mean)

7-Ray Lewis (His career is not done, when it is he moves up the list.)

You can probably put Ham at 4 or 5. I like DT.

  • brian urlacher does not diserve to be on the top 10 or even 50 linebackers people dont be fucking stupid and did any of you ever here of someone called reggie white?

  • @BloodyDragonStudios fuck you, urlacher DOES desserve to be in the top 25 linebackers of all time, bitch.

  • somebody hates the steelers. steelers had a great team. they didnt have single solo players. they were team players. and split their glory and records into all the defense players on the team. look at all the players they had going to the pro bowl. dam unbelievable. russell ham lambert worked together which was more important than a solo player not bringing it like LT. thats what makes a team great.

butkus did the best because he had determination and he was focused. #1

  • @chopperseansean1 i love the steelers they play smach mouth in your face football and its fucking awsome pluss they hit the shit out of the other team

  • Butkus #1 no debate.

  • holy crap youtube has now upgraded to 1080p?

  • Where is urlacher ?

  • @tallpizza Urlacher is NOT in the top 5. this is actually a pretty good list

  • @tallpizza Urlacher doesn't even compare to these guys . Not even close dude !

  • Where is bears ?

  • Don't people understand that these guys were great in their day, but in today's football they would get smashed. I agree that Butkus was great, for his time.

  • Stop with the LT crap. Even LT will say Butkus was the best.

  • butkus is number 1 all time

  • No way.... Butkus was the best..... ever

  • Lambert is ahead of Ray Lewis by a long shot. Better get your brain checked

  • LT was a glorified D end he could not pass protect if your doing linebackers you have to factor in how they pass protect soo that makes LT the best pass rushing outside linebacker of all time and Jack Ham is the best overall outside linebacker of all time LT doesent diserve to be on this list

  • @Yoder23m

yep, this list is missing some of the best -- Ham and Lambert -- how did Singletary make this list?

  • @Adhesiveputty-- today is a new breed? The 1960's were the best decade for football. Dudes running around trying to kill eachother; that's football. Butkus is No. 1 and if he was in today's game, he would still own.

  • Of course Butkus was great. But viewing him today you have to understand that more than half his hits would be penalties. People don't hit like that anymore because it is against the rules. Ask Ray Lewis.

  • The older LB would not have a chance if they stepped into todays game. They were great during their time don't get me wrong, but its a new breed out there now.

  • @Adhesiveputty i doubt that because if they were in today's game they would have access to all the little perks like:

    1. a personal trainer,

    2. better weight training equipment

    3. arthroscopic surgery(Butkus played with no knees for the last 4 years of his career yet he was elected to the Pro Bowl 8 out of 9 seasons).

    4. Butkus played at around 250-260 lbs.

    5. he was a fullback in HS and college(and a damn good one)

    6. He literally WAS the Bears defense

    7. he was a textbook tackler........

  • @brianCIM valid points but most are moot.

  • @Adhesiveputty Why?

  • PATRICK WILLIS

  • I can't stand Ray Lewis because he is a peice of shit, but he would devastate Butkus just because of size, speed, and a better athlete. All these players were awsome in their time, but they wouldn't even make the lineup now.

  • @kojak235 Butkus and Lewis played at the same size and weight. Lewis ran a 4.7 forty which caused him to drop in the draft. Sorry, but Butkus could play in any era.

Lewsi- 6,1 250. Butkus 6,3 250. Mark Fields could have ran circles around both of them from a speed standpoint, but Butkus and Lewis had ball awareness you could not teach.

  • really no jack lambert... come on

  • @sesshomaru7786 i said that b4 i clicked on it i was i bet jack lamberts on here and then there was nothing and i was like wtf!

  • Comment removed

  • I love the 1080p quality

  • Another idiot.. taylor is a drug addict and used during his career.

  • Recently TSN,ranked the 100 greatest NFL players. Only 3 defensive players made

the top 10;Lt,Butkus and Bob Lilly,in that order. So there you go,sports fans!

  • Jack Lambert should be on here.

  • we do know the diff between a outside and inside linebacker rite

  • agreed

  • Butkis and LT are very close in my book. Hard to call. Both devastating.

  • i wouldnt have LT a starter ill put: singletary, lambert, and butkus

  • It's adorible how you guys think Butkis is better than Lawrence Taylor when chances are, most of you haven't seen Butkis play. I've seen both, and Butkis couldn't shine LT's shoes. Butkis was great, but he didn't change the game forever like LT did...

  • picture videos suck... as well as finger eleven

  • rofl...butkus is number one!

  • Lawrence Taylor was great no doubt. But your fucked up in the head to put him ahead of dick butkus.

  • Can't deny that you have a great group of linebackers. But there are some names that need to be mentioned ever time you say the word linebacker. LAMBERT, HAM, CURTIS,HUFF,BEDNARIK,HENDRICKS,.............

  • stats dont lie lt is better than butkus

  • @TheChrisjohnsonfan28 if stats dont lie then emitt smith is better than walter payton barry sander and eric dickerson.point proved

  • @davidisraw I completely agree. Stats are important but not a sure sign of who is a better player. For example... I'm a seahawks fan, when they went to the superbowl Shawn Alexander had the best stats in the league. Next year the hawks decided to dump their best offensive lineman. Shawns stats were cut in half. In other words stats don't account for many things.. like teamwork. Don't be a stat nerd! @ ZiaCombs You watched Butkis play? So you're not only racist, but an old bastard too.

  • In a few years Clay Matthews will be among the top 10 of all time.

  • this is stupid,, your music sucks and is a detrement to the awesome men who you show.. are you an idiot>??? my god you are so stupid to put such music to the TRUE art that these men performed an i am ashamed that you are alive....

  • LT was the best defensive player of all time hands down. He changed the game and the way offenses play more so that any other single defensive player before or since. no other linebacker can say that

  • @morrieswigs lol

  • LT isnt a pimple on Butkus's ass.

  • @JohnWattsify yes he is

  • you have ray lewis but not lambert really.

  • LT greatest pass rushing LB/DE 3-4 linebacker. Created a new genre of NFL player, but not a true linebacker. Butkus is the Platinum Standard for all Defensive signal callers.

  • NO JUST NO!

how is lambert not here or sam huff

  • Even though I like the people Mike and Ray are, you are smokin some shit putting Ray, Mike and especially Taylor before Butkus and Lambert. Not having Lambert even show up on your list makes you lose all credibility bud.

  • @CMLAFLAMME

    5.lanier

    4.lambert

    3.taylor

    2.singletary

    1.butkus

  • Dude, Ray Lewis isn't half the player Jack Lambert was. He's a good one, potentially a first-ballot HOFer, but he's not fit to smell Jack Lambert's shit. His tackle numbers have been inflated thanks to homer stat keepers. His legacy has been inflated by the Golden-Goose era NFL propagandists. Jack Lambert's only real competition for best inside backer ever is Butkus. Lambert is even head and shoulders above Singletary. This list is a joke.

  • Butkus #2 Really?!?

  • How is Jack lambert not in there

    Replace Lewis with lambert

  • wow you think LT is better than butkus? really?

  • @WhySoS3riouss Of course he thinks he is better he is black.

  • @totallyjakeness1 and of course you think Butkis is better, youre a big white goon with no ounce of athleticism in his body.

  • @WhySoS3riouss not only does he think LT is better then butkus, the world thinks it too!....butkus was on tv and said he thinks LT was the best LB he has ever seen.

  • @WhySoS3riouss BUTKUS OVER LT !

  • @WhySoS3riouss i know and wheres jack lambert ray luis is a faggot wife beater

  • @WhySoS3riouss butkus already had a good team but lawarence taylor revolutionized the linebacker position to be like the quarterback of a defense butkus was just another tackler

  • @WitnessNFLInside are you serious? already had a good team? butkus never had a winning season in his 9 year career...Butkus' defenses had a few other badasses on them, but so did LT's defenses.

  • @ForceBehindTheThrone

true but butkus cant win it for a team by himself. he was just a great determinated lb that didnt screw around on the field. he took his job totally serious. what helped lt's team was simms. i believe he was the qb then. they were the names that stuck. lt talked alot and went for the weakest spot in the line to get his sack stats up. lt was tough but his mouth was tough too which gave him that extra people liking.

  • @chopperseansean1 KNOCK IT OFF. Our offenses were stodgy, marty ball offense before Marty even a label for his overly conservative play-calling. Parcells gambled a lot, but our offense was very predictable, a la John Fox when he was with the Panthers.

    Your point is invalid.

LT is the GOAT and it's not even close.

  • @WhySoS3riouss If I had to choose any one of those linebackers to lead my defense, no question Lawrence Taylor would be the man. You have to remember that LT was responsible for Joe Gibbs' one back offense. He changed the way an offensive coordinator plans a game. He could pass rush, play the run, or go out into coverage and be able to cover the Tight End or running backs of his era. No question, the best Linebacker of all Time!

  • Let me clarify why I picked Lawrence Taylor #1 1986 - AP Defensive Player of the Year - AP NFL MVP - Bert Bell MVP Trophy (Maxwell Club) - PFWA MVP - UPI NFC Defensive Player of the Year 1983 - UPI NFC Defensive Player of the Year 1982 - AP Defensive Player of the Year 1981 - AP Defensive Player of the Year - AP Defensive Rookie of the Year 1,088 tackles, 132.5 sacks , nine interceptions, 134 return yards, two touchdowns, 33 forced fumbles, 11 fumble recoveries, and 34 fumble return yards.
  • @Sukitjerky Did I mention 10 Pro Bowl Selections? Now argue that he wasn't the best of all time! How many of those Linebackers won the NFL MVP?

  • @WhySoS3riouss AND IT'S NOT EVEN CLOSE.

  • @WhySoS3riouss Butkus was a BEAST !!! No doubt on that but , NOBODY could do like LT !!!!

  • @WhySoS3riouss LT is ranked the best defensive player of all time on the NFL wesbite.....

  • @Ezio519 really youre going off a website? youre so stupid watch how butkus played a fucking monster. demolished everyone he hit. LT was good but not on his level sorry

  • I'd switch out Nitschke and put in Lambert but the top 4 are spot on.

  • what about derrick thomas

  • Nice HD quality

  • Sry, Butkus by far...

  • lawrence taylor is number 1 line backer.

  • Favorite Linebackers (19)

Willie Lanier 1967-1977 Ted Hendricks 1969-1983 Dave Wilcox 1964-1974 Andre Tippett 1982-1993 Nick Buoniconti 1962-1974, 1976 George Connor (also DT, OT) 1948-1955 Bill George 1952-1966 Joe Schmidt 1953-1965 Sam Huff 1956-1967, 1969 Ray Nitschke 1958-1972 Mike Singletary 1981-1992 Jack Lambert 1974-1984 Harry Carson 1976-1988 Jack Ham 1971-1982 Derrick Thomas 1989-1999 Rickey Jackson LB (also DE) 1981-1995 Dick Butkus 1965-1973 Bobby Bell (also DE) 1963-1974

    get em on!

  • no jack ham and no jack lambert, alrigh thats just fucking retarded

  • Comment removed

  • Must be a Giants fan...EVERYONE knows Dick Butkus is the GREATEST EVER. Butkus is the standard by which all linebackers are judged...past and present!!

  • @gifts1948 lol...thanks for that joke...i lmao...

  • @gifts1948 4 super bowls from correctly positioning your Defense and making plays. Lambert owns all.

  • Great quality!

  • Could've used higher quality pics for this video...

All these linebackers were great, but each has strengths and weaknesses therefore it is hard to judge who the greatest linebacker ever is...

  • first brian wasnt in this video and second lawrence taylor is a DE not a LB watch the blindside retards

  • @saeger85 hey dip shit lawrence taylor was an outside linebacker go back and watch the movie he was in a two point stance on the out side of the defensive end. During that video he and carl banks his teammate were two of the best in the game. Nice try with trying to show your knowledge about football. Cute attempt.

  • @lasalle47 hey retard i used to be a DE and two point stance is easier to rush the quarter back.

  • @saeger85 i used to be a DE that used a two point stance myself...(cuz i wanted to be like linebacker greg lloyd) the coach said i could choose whatever stance i wanted...

anyway taylor was a linebacker because parcells ran the 3-4 defense, simular to cower in pittsburg...so depending on the type of defense they ran determines if the outside man on the line is a LB or DE...

  • junior seau should be in this

  • yea dick butkus is the most feared linebacker tho

  • urlacher is soft.... he should not be mentioned in the same sentence as Ray Lewis. Ray's been selected to eleven Pro Bowls and been named an Associated Press All-Pro nine times.

[2] He won the NFL Defensive Player of the Year in 2000 and 2003.

[3] He was also the second linebacker to win the Super Bowl Most Valuable Player Award and the first linebacker to win the award on the winning Super Bowl team.

  • dude ur list was good love L.T. AT 1 but where was Derrick Thomas?

  • Hey how the fuck about DT.

  • Hey how the fuck about DT. HE WAS BETTER THAN LT AND WAS ON A CRAPPY TEAM. OKAY , PUT LT INFRONT OF DT, BUT RAY LEWIS, FUCK THAT, AND I AM RAVENS FAN. THIS LIST IS BULLSHIT.

  • LT is without a doubt #1! He was Dick Butkus, only faster and stronger! Hows that possible? I don't know, but film doesn't lie, watch the film and you cant deny it.

  • @infinitewizdumb nope CJ

  • LT!!!!!

  • Butkus it isn't even close.

  • Way I see it, Butkus is the greatest ever.

No competition. He could play MLB in ANY scheme, with his size and aggressiveness. He's big enough to be an OLB/DE hybrid, like Taylor was. No matter where the Bears would've put him, when they drafted him, he would've succeeded.

  • but he doesn't have the same speed that an OLB or DE should have. I made a top 5 list myself if you wanna check it out

  • @SportsEinstein Depends on when you're talking about with Butkus. When he first came outta college, he had excellent speed/quickness. The thinking was to put him at fullback because he had excellent speed/quicks for a guy 250. But he injured his knee I think in his fifth year and he never regained what he originally had.

  • 1)LT

    2)Dick Butkus

    distant 3)everyone else

LT was not only the greatest linebacker ever, he was also one of the greatest football players ever. Nobody has ever seen a player of his size with that kind of speed

  • Are we seriously comparing football and soccer? You gotta be the biggest retard in the world to say football takes no brains to play. Players stay up hours studying their playbook and watching film. How big is the playbook for you soccer folks? Oh thats right, you don't have a playbook.

  • LT is good, don't get me wrong, but why does everyone keep putting #1 in #2?! Butkus..... than LT, not the other way around

  • Quite obvious that these are all worthy for arguement; but I believe butkus to be in a class of his own.
