  • This song is like an orgasm to my ears!!!!!!! XP

  • love this junkie's song...

    still they live...

  • This song is about heroin, people, the title is very explicit "Sister Morphine"... Morphine is the sister of what?? It's about a junkie at the end of the line, knowing that they wont give him the real thing, but at least counting on the "sister" drug to ease his pain. He even mentions "cousin cocaine", another potent, yet less related, drug.

  • @humbertojimmy No,humbrto, "sister" is the term for a senior nurse in an English hospital. I wish you Americans would take a little time to learn our culture.

  • @broadband0118 I'm more inclined to believe there is a hidden meaning when he speaks of a "sister" morphine. After all, when he mentions the "cousin" (cocaine) what is that? Another nurse? (By the way, i'm not american, i'm from Europe - Portugal, although i lived in canada for a while).

  • @humbertojimmy Well, you could be right I suppose. After all, it was written by Marianne Faithful who was hopeleslly hooked on smack at the time.

  • @broadband0118 Yeah, it was an era when most rock stars and artist in general were all deep into heavy drugs (have they ever given up anyway? lol) ;)

  • @broadband0118 We don't want you faggity Engrish Culture!

  • @sirchocotaco You frippin sirry iriot.

  • china white...

  • Only the Part of > sweet cousine cocaine lay your cool cool hand on my face...... is from Faithful

  • This song is not about morphine it's about heroin.

  • @snowbloodqueen It's not really that big of a difference. Both opiates, one twice as addicting as the other.

  • @snowbloodqueen They are the same drug. When heroin reaches your brain it's already in the form of morphine.

  • hello motherfucker? I don't need it any more

    7 days under

  • I've been addicted to morphine for more than twenty years for medical reasons. Not fun, but I love this tune!

  • nothing tastes like morphine in the morning

  • @spijtig Lol. I know what you mean. Biting down on a 60mg. MS contin in the a.m. is an eye opener. Wish the rest of the day was as good.

  • this song was written by marriane faithfull

  • @freakbro a very small portion of the lyrics was made by M.Faithfull, she colaborated with jagger and richards, but she didn´t write it

  • @freakbro um, no it wasn't... she performed it first because mick gave it to her. she did absolutely NOT write it though.

  • @bballer21112 Um um, yes, it was. Jagger wrote the music; she wrote the lyrics. She had to sue to get credit, but she did get credit.

  • When I was twelve I was hospitalized for four weeks for this unexplainable pain. The doctors gave me morphine injections and then set me up on a morphine pump. They never figured out what the problem was. All I got was four weeks of misery and a narcotics addiction.

  • @00cipher Sucks! Stays Strong!

  • @00cipher So sorry to hear this.

  • Boy! This was when the Rolling Stones were THEE ROLLING STONES! Threatening, ominous, dirty and prophane, mired in drugs and sex and booze! They dont come any better-then and certainly not now!

  • @carrier3232 vouch, but in the other hand, they are closing 70+year old ;D

  • Oh Nurse

  • oooh their greatest album and one of their best song...

  • @dyedinsoul And Can't You Hear me Knocking...on that endless stretch of I 70 heading for Colorado through western Kansas running from tornadoes or blizzards or the moon....

  • @ENACODNOM i agree! i LOVE it!

  • @GeorgeRingoGirl

one of my fave albums ,,but led zep

    is in the turn chasin

this,,black keyes not sold out yet

  • I listened to this song, when my family was going through a grieving process with a loss of a loved one. It helped me somehow, because I do have pains of my own. Thank you Mick, Keith and lets not forget Marianne Faithfull, for writing or coming up with lines to this song. You channelled pain perfectally, so we can all relate as one.

  • this is the song i would like to play with my band "Piggy Piper"

I hope my friends will appreciate

  • This is the best song to listen when you're sad, tired, waking up, going to bed, day-dreaming or just in the mood to listen to a GREAT song.

  • the only thing missing from this song is...brian jones!!!

kinda like so many songs (eg "white rabbit"), I wish it would never end

  • @RoadWarriorTigerHawk If anything Mick Taylor's slide is what makes the song so awesome. Faithfull's version is lacking that. Brian would have just ruined this whole album.

  • @rlanantelope Ry Cooder played slide on this particular track. I'm sure if Mick Taylor played on the track he would have done great job as well. Great track.

  • SOMETHING AWESOME IN THIS SONG CANT SAY WHAT,LISTEN.

  • great song

  • i think this is my 3rd favourite song by The Rolling Stones! first is Gimme Shelter and second is Paint It, Black!..

  • This song always makes me feel creative. Thanks, Mick jag. :)

  • Sister Morphine when are you coming around again?

Seek Thy Beauty from the cold of the stone

I am gone but i am not alone

With your eyes open you will see

that without your love i cannot be

those days of wonder as i took your hand

can never ever be the same again

bring back those faded memories to me

lying here so cold and alone

  • Do they remind anyone else of Bob Dylan?

  • @RocknPak Yes. Very much so.

  • Opiates (like morphine) cause depression of the central nervous system. It kills in large doses because people stop breathing. Less than 10 breaths per minute usually means trouble.

  • like Keith once said " I ain't got a drug problem. I got a police problem.

  • @xltoday That's one of my favorite quotes, he also said I never thought I was wasted, but I probably was.

  • Oh yesss...sweet sweet sounds of the Stones

  • such an amazing drug...jus wish i didnt get so sick when theres none left

  • @DonGooked Don't we all bro hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha

  • This song, "Coming Down Again" and several others are sung from being there and knowing that feeling!! YFa had to be there...

  • This tune owed a lot to one Ryland James Cooder, whose slide guitar dances all across this one.

  • long live the stones

  • I can fuckin' relate to this song!!!! It makes me want some too

  • i dont know why u all hate the stones so much, even if half the bullshit u said is true

it wont change anything exept a couple of idiots opinoins

     and u r right jto1916

  • you got more money in the bank than most nations and you claim to be human and hip yet ur still copyrighting stuff you ripped off the oppressed in the first place, scum

  • this song is a MASTERPIECE!!!

  • I love this song. The stones are the best !!!!!!!

  • This is a great song and it seems to be written from experience. I have just started reading Keith Richards new autobiography. It's great. It's amazing that through all the drug and alcohol abuse he put his body through he is still alive and playing and he remembers everything. God love em. Peace.

  • sticky. fingers. desert. island. disc.

  • RIP my dearest friend Christine.

  • this is antipop420 and this goes out to rws jr RIP love u buddy 88-2010

  • this song was written by Marianne Faithull, she wrote the lyrics and it's her song.

  • @mconem Mick wrote the song for Faithull so she could transform her fame from pop to rock but he decided to sing it himself after they split up

  • @1DarkPunk Jagger wrote only the tune, lyrics are Marianne's

  • @mconem I read her biography it was all in there

  • When Brian Jones was still with them, he did most of the leads. He was great!Ry is great too!

  • In spite of their VAST number of better known songs, this is my favorite Stones song. I love the intro of Bill Wyman's bass, then, later, Charlie Watts' drums.

  • THE STONES ARE PLAYIN RIGHT NOW, FUCK YEAH!

  • Klassic Stones! ;o)

  • KEEEEEEEEEEEEEEF!

  • great song

  • Marianne Faithful in a book she wrote about her life with the Stones. MF claims she wrote the lyrics to SM when she was dating Mick and he wrote the music .But she was the one who was suppose to sing it to get rid of her pop image. But The RS recorded it instead. MF cleared up that rumor about when the cops raided the RS & caught Mick eating a Mars bar out of her vagina was a lie.MF admits she was nude and they were all tripping on LSD But the Mars bar incident. was proven all lies! Good Book!

  • @StaunchComic Marianne did a version of her song-It's better than the Stones

  • @jollymonsng

I completly agree , her voice is much more sensitive, melodious, deep and full of nuances . And she can sing in so various ways, so many registers , soddiferent styles.

The Stones are good for rythm and guitars , not for singing , they shout and gesticulate , if you compare to Marianne. (despite I adore the Stones)

    They're good for dancing

She was the best of all this generation, to me, but pushed away, put aside by Mick who behave like a bastard with her

  • they were so stoned when they wrote this :L

  • flowers in the blood will sooner or later get ya

  • brilliant tune . love the lyrics

  • This song always struck a special chord with me. I don't know why, I guess I like sad songs. Sticky Fingers album during high school early 80s, love it.

Well it just goes to show, things are not what they seem.

Please Sister Morphine, turn my nightmares, into dreams.

  • When was this version actually recorded? Read years ago it was part of the Beggars sessions alongside : Midnight Rambler, You Can't Always Get What You Want, You Got The Silver, Memo From Turner.

  • tryin to score

  • This song makes me itchy

  • @navyfrogman Don't scratch it makes things much worse.

  • God I love downers

  • @1DarkPunk lolx me tew

  • @1DarkPunk It was once part of my life 30 years ago, best song that help me see reality, Thanks Marianne

  • @Harry53 Yeah man its good to get out but thats not how my story will go for awhile now

  • Yep, I agree. Ry Cooder's slide guitar on this track is truly awesome, and I never use that word lightly. Ry is the 'Dog's Bollock's as we say in England, chaps, on Sticky Fingers!

  • i read somewhere that some people rate this as the best song ever (not just the stones ) well sorry but i don`t rate it at all.

  • one of my fav stones tunes...even if ry cooder butchers it...the charlie watts fill to bring in the band is killer tho

  • @radishrose are you for real? rys playing is the best part of the song.

  • Comment removed

  • Listen to those beautiful tones coming from Ry Cooder's slide!

  • i been there frickin cancer tell me sister morephine when you coming round again

  • Great song, man.

  • Mick`s yawn looks like he`s sayin, "Yeah, we`re the shit. We know it." LOL

  • Just to let people know the details, clearly there are some here that don't - Mick Taylor is not even on this recording. "The Stones' version (of this song written by Marianne Faithful) was recorded in May and June 1969...features Jagger singing, Ry Cooder on bottleneck guitar, Keith Richards on acoustic guitar, and Jack Nitzsche on piano." ... Yes, Ry F#%king Cooder...incredible.

  • One of MY favorte Stones songs EVER ! Keith & Charlie KILL on this ! !

  • The scream of the ambulance is sounding in my ears

Tell me, Sister Morphine, how long have I been lying here?

What am I doing in this place?

Why does the doctor have no face?

    Wow, FUCKING GREAT!

  • @Kanarie1973 Yep. Fantastic lyrics.

  • Here I lie,in my hospital bed...

  • the lyrics are... SHOCKING!!!!!!!!!

  • I <3 The Stones and all their music Rocks!

  • MICK FUCKIN JAGGER

  • Fuck the Beatles.

  • ROLLING FUCKIN STONES

  • this whole song is Mick Taylor's. he designed this incredible folk blues Rroll sound.

  • its from sticky fingers 1971. i have the original with a fly zip that opens! dersigned by andy warhol. one of the most chilling tracks ever. people say the stones were too commercial, but this is phenomenal

  • @coppicer I have the orig vinyl also with the zipper on it. Little trivia but very true, if you stacked your records on top of each other you had to keep the zipper open because open the bulky grip end would be at the hole in the record, if you left it close and stacked the records it would leave a dent from the weight of the records in whatever record was on top of the Sitcky Fingers album. Very true.

  • Ry Cooder is not human. He is a human/alien hybrid.

  • wich album was this?

  • @lala102197 Its off of Sticky Fingers. I just got it yesterday.

  • This reminds me of what it felt to have typhoid.

  • Remember 1971...

  • BRIAN FUCKIN JONES! RIP

  • Simply brilliant.

  • yeah baby love this song :)one of my favs by the stones

  • yeah baby love this song :) favs by the sones

  • yeah baby love this song :)

  • The guy on the right with his finger to his nose just made a hilarious joke about snorting a line and Keith is having a good laugh.

  • that music was composed by MARIANNE FAITHFULL

  • Morbid but ohhhh the guitar break :)

  • Morphine is so gooooood... f*ck**g hard to resiste

  • course me in name, defy me in speech, this song proofs it " A gazillion times better than the Beatles."

  • @morphinlounge101 The Stones were best at what they did and the Beatles were best at what they did, different musical aspirations too, never needed comparison. What d'ya say ?
