at atc i train in sambo, ninjitsu, karate, and kickboxing, yes all of them, 4 nights a week. 2 hours a night. The first thing you learn about street self defense is never to shoot at a person, mainly for legal reasons, and if its another fellow that knows sambo, your gonna be getting hurt doen that. in mma there very respectful. dont let these cheap internet fight make you have a boner. real fight dont last for 5 minutes
and with the guys posting vids of bjj always winning, well mayby its just cuz bjj guys have some ego troubles, and just like to show off there style with the idea that its more superior just cuz it focuses on the ground with the belief that a fight will always go there, even though its the dumbest thing you could do in a self defense situation. dont say the gracies made it out of fights in brazil, i dunno mayby they were use to getting kicked in the head while they were down there
thats not karate mma vs kickboxing, thats one man against another man that both live very different lives. whats with you people comparing styles omg. like brazilian jujitsu, yes you see alooooot of vids on youtube that always have some bjj guy beating whoever, as well as the gracies. have you ever thought the gracies were selective as to who they fought, and never taped a loss. i heard a gracie got his arm broke by some judo guy in japan cuz he wouldnt tap.
@ThePinkMan your right and I'm quite dissapointed in modern martail artists for thinking this is the way the style is to be used very few can actually pull it off such as jka tkd itf some of them and some kung fu guys other wize there just performing kickboxing they don't even use stance and limit themselfs to just striking abandoning the grappleing elements included in thier style and get a rude awakening when faced against an atttacker
@codrin03 - What you think it is not possible? My whole fighting comes from karate. Been in karate for 17 years now. I have been in a fight with a wrestler and the other fight was with somebody I did not know at all. Both attacked first. Both never got a hit in. Wrestlers nose was broken and the other guys wind was knocked out. 1st one Oi zuki. and second fight Mae Geri in the stomach. Both did not get up. Both were karate that I used. Please dont say karate does not work in a real fight.
@mizmera it doesnt work in mma the way its trained in 99% of dojos worldwide, you need to spar full contact and wrestle and do groundwork and do them all in the same sparring sessions.
A guy with black belts in martial arts who knows how to use that and fight in a street fight also. Howard was a tough guy but yea there were better fighters than him out there back then.
@nogek dude u guys gotta be kidding, thats harold howard his backround is karate man.. nothing else....everyone look it up!!!!! seriously.....and yes kung fu karate is very effective in mma, people.. more and more will come in the future too...muay thia is also another traditional kung fu art that has become popular in mma...
@OoRaHDaWg21 Rashad's background is predominantly collegiate wrestling. He's obviously trained kickboxing techniques because that's a part of being a mixed martial artist, but so has Machida.
@ThePinkMan I know bt you can see in Rashads stand-up that it is kickboxing....Bt if u smart and no Martial arts then you can definitly see Machida's stand-up is predominantly Shotokan
@OoRaHDaWg21 It's still a poor example because Rashad definitely isn't as good at kickboxing as Machida is at karate. He also never achieved anything in kickboxing prior to his MMA career, while Machida was a succesful competitor in karate.
I'm just saying that Machida has fought better kickboxers than Rashad and there are better examples to look at.
@OoRaHDaWg21 The title just refers to their backgrounds. Harold Howard is still a 3rd degree Goju black belt even if he mostly relied on his bar bouncing experience.
Try looking up Gerard Gordeau or Keith Hackney from the old UFC. They exhibit their karate experience more clearly than Howard.
@ThePinkMan neither howard, gordeau or hackney showed any karate in any fight, ever. The only person ever to use karate at elite mma level is machida, thats 1 person in 18 yrs of mma. They all use what could be only described as crap kickboxing,in fact gordeau was by far the best of those 3 and had lots of kickboxing experience
@scarred10 Most striking styles that incorporate punches and kicks, when trained with aliveness, are going to resemble kickboxing. I suggested Gordeau and Hackney because there's more evidence of training in their style than the bar-brawling Howard. Keep in mind I only brought this up to appease the karate purists.
By the way, Gordeau's base was predominantly Kyokushin. He transitioned to Savate and K-1 later on, but it was his skill developed in Kyokushin that brought him success.
@ThePinkMan the fact they resemble kickboxing is proof they are training incorrectly,if karate training was effective, youd see karate blocks, kicks, strikes and stances straigth out of kata.If those cant be done ,they should be training like kickboxers obviously
@scarred10 I don't know what you're trying to argue against, to be honest.
Traditional martial artists who train with aliveness usually realize that the "kata techniques" are low percentage moves. Once all is said and done, their style at least broadly resembles kickboxing. This is just a reality of combat.
Fighters who've either trained the more exotic techniques extensively or who have substantial physical talent can pull them off, but the bread and butter remains the same.
@scarred10 You are not allowed to use certain blocks strikes and so on because what if you break his neck, stick your vingers into his windpipe, tear of his ears, dislocate his elbow/arm/hip/knee,rip off his jaw. You see the fighting you guys see from a karate trained guy in MMA is not real karate. I would love if you could attend on of my classes and just sit and watch what its about before judging.
@mirageF1AZ youre allowed use any blocks and strikes but certain targets are banned or it would never be legal. You can certainly dislocate any joint including the neck, thats what happens if the lad doesnt tap.Obviously its not possible to rip someones jaw off. What machida does isnt real karate?Hes the only person capable of using it so far at elite level.
If you look carefully all of Hawards strikes are loaded from chamber, his opening move was a backfist, and he is bouncing with his hands down point style sport Karate all the way! lol, true though it all looks like kickboxing at the end of the day! kata sucks..
@nogek Take it for what it's worth. Harold Howard, the fighter here, was a 3rd degree Goju-ryu black belt and the Canadian Heavyweight Karate Champion.
Despite this, he chose to fight in the same manner he did when he was a bar bouncer.
@nogek I'm saying that you should think about why he abandoned his style. I assume you want to see a video that validates your own training. Instead, you found one that can help you ask question about our style.
@ThePinkMan I wanted to watch a video of a Karate martial artist fighting a kickboxer. What I got was a scrappy brawl with neither Karate or kickboxing and in fact no martial arts whatsoever. Just to reiterate: no Karate, no kickboxing and no martial arts so every word in this video's title is wrong. There are no questions in my mind about this video and I can't learn anything from it.
@nogek No, you can learn a lot. The karate guy here fought differently than how he trained because his training was not full-contact. If you're training to fight for points like he was, then you're probably going to abandon your style in a real confrontation as well.
Also, it's not mentioned in the description, but the kickboxer was also a collegiate wrestler. The takedowns he performed were a evidence of legitimate martial arts training,
@SteelClaw he didn't beat Royce, There was no match because Helio Gracie threw in the towel, Royce couldn't see, had a hurt ankle and broke his hand in the previous fight so he couldn't continue the tournament.
this guy in the white pants was not KARATE-DO the only form of Karate there is he was more like KROTY the typical AMERICAN way of saying a person does martial arts.
@NinjaPenguins1995 Karate is brutal force. "One hit one kill" is that not the ultimate idea in Japanese Karate, aside from not fighting at all, which is not a bad idea and likely what most of the commentators in here practice. It is very difficult if not impossible to use clean Japanese Karate technique when in a full contact fight. In the end I would say this guy is not bad nor is he impressive but he did fight hard and I don't know if I would have liked to be in there with him.
both of these guys are "karate guys". the one dressed as karate-ka yeah, but the guy in the black shorts is schooled in daidojuku apparently so this is like karate vs karate + MMA or whatever i dont care....................i love karate :)
The karate guy was a pointfighting competitor and instructor, but he was also a bouncer. The kickboxer was also a wrestler, which is why he went for those takedowns.
first of all the guy who said this is tae kwon do is retarded neither one of them fight like tae kwon do second the guy who said this is grappling is just a dumb ass and doesnt know anything about the arts and the guys who said their is no technique also does not know any thing about karate or other arts maybe you guys should take some lessons I have one question what is the guys name in the white i have seen him before he dominates just cant think of his name ?
@thoroughbred765 MMA is not a fighting style is a kind of competition were you can fight with any style of fighting you want, and this are not people trying to win some points on a Karate tournament, this is a real fight.
@susie2292 hahahaha even when i trained in gojyu ryu which is a 'soft style' we have hammer fists... why do people always say 'that wasn't an X move, its a Y move'? its ridiculous. anyone who is truly a martial artist who has studied at a decent school, or has advanced past 1st kyu understands that many arts have the same techniques or variations on a theme. There are even takedowns, bars, throws and grappling in Karate-do they just usually aren't emphasized.
If you fight an opponent 2X your size without rules, you'd still lose. Keep in mind that your opponent can attack your knees and is free to lock as well.
i still prefer kickboxing, and lmao the karate dude was like 3x the size of the other dude xD and i just cant stand how stupid the karate fighting stanse is :/ but thats just me :P
@moodyjake17 The stances used in REAL Karate are very strong. This guy was just bouncing around like a boxer. If a real Karate student were to go against the "Karate" guy in the video, he would absolutely dominate. The general Karate sparring stance is more open, because it's more balanced between defense, attacking, and counter-attacks. In boxing, the arms are close to the body, making defense good, but attacking and countering slower.
@Trevorthekid oh ok i didnt really know much about karate , i do kickboxing thats why i prefer it but i cant really say its better :P and yea so i only really know about kickboxing but im joining jiu jitsu soon cuz i have to admit im prety bad when the fight goes to the ground , what fighting styles do you do?
no martial art is #1. Mmma gives the person ground work and western boxing skills, but that's not enough to call it complete. Many others find a variety of martial arts successful
adaptation, no single martial art can be called #1 mma can get close to giving groundwork and standup, but some find learning other types of styles as opposed to western boxing and jujitsu useful
adaptation, no single martial art can be called #1 mma can get close to giving groundwork and standup, but some find learning other types of styles as opposed to western boxing and jujitsu useful
the martial art doesn't mean 100% success. The people are what make the art an art. Depends on the skill level and knowledge of how to win over many varieties of attack
U sure this isnt BJJ?

@thoroughbred765 MMA is not a fighting style is a kind of competition were you can fight with any style of fighting you want, and this are not people trying to win some points on a Karate tournament, this is a real fight.

whoa intense, i havn't seen someone who is "karate" use boxing punchs before and hammer fists.... anyone notice he was just going berserker lol.
susie2292 1 year ago
@susie2292 hahahaha even when i trained in gojyu ryu which is a 'soft style' we have hammer fists... why do people always say 'that wasn't an X move, its a Y move'? its ridiculous. anyone who is truly a martial artist who has studied at a decent school, or has advanced past 1st kyu understands that many arts have the same techniques or variations on a theme. There are even takedowns, bars, throws and grappling in Karate-do they just usually aren't emphasized.

Kick boxers fighting always their own size. You know why ? Because it's not an art but a sport.
It's impossible for me to win against someone that have x2 times my direct /tolio/low reach. Impossible to win with all those rules.
If I am free to lock, to knee where I want to, to attack knees and elbows then it's all about the person and not the fighting style.
SABAC00789 1 year ago
If you fight an opponent 2X your size without rules, you'd still lose. Keep in mind that your opponent can attack your knees and is free to lock as well.
Oh, and kickboxing is an art.

i still prefer kickboxing, and lmao the karate dude was like 3x the size of the other dude xD and i just cant stand how stupid the karate fighting stanse is :/ but thats just me :P
moodyjake17 1 year ago
@moodyjake17 The stances used in REAL Karate are very strong. This guy was just bouncing around like a boxer. If a real Karate student were to go against the "Karate" guy in the video, he would absolutely dominate. The general Karate sparring stance is more open, because it's more balanced between defense, attacking, and counter-attacks. In boxing, the arms are close to the body, making defense good, but attacking and countering slower.
Trevorthekid 1 year ago
@Trevorthekid oh ok i didnt really know much about karate , i do kickboxing thats why i prefer it but i cant really say its better :P and yea so i only really know about kickboxing but im joining jiu jitsu soon cuz i have to admit im prety bad when the fight goes to the ground , what fighting styles do you do?

no martial art is #1. Mmma gives the person ground work and western boxing skills, but that's not enough to call it complete. Many others find a variety of martial arts successful
hakuboshi1 1 year ago
adaptation, no single martial art can be called #1 mma can get close to giving groundwork and standup, but some find learning other types of styles as opposed to western boxing and jujitsu useful

the martial art doesn't mean 100% success. The people are what make the art an art. Depends on the skill level and knowledge of how to win over many varieties of attack
