Quick question: How do you restart the train after a "stop"? I am thinking along the same line ... my trains are all fully remotely controlled but your solution would allow some stand alone operation.
Stopping the train could be preceeded by a "very slow" section. The train should then stop close to this section and could be fired up again with an active light signal.
Would be great as a way to make the train go fast on straights and slow on curves.
