Bonaire becomes a special part of the European Netherlands. When this happens in 2010 this crime is not possible anymore because of strict enverimental laws. The corrupt island government of R. Booi is trying to make some cash before this happens.
Not only are we living in a disposable society, we live in a society that just can't get enough "stuff". We work hard for stuff and employ many third world countries for pennies an hour. Once we're finished with out "old stuff" we through it "away". Where is "away" - does anyone ever think about that? Once it is picked up to be taken to the above type of dumpsite, we go out and buy "new stuff" and the vicious cycle continues. Thanks for posting this!
We all can do our bit - recycle and reuse, don't overuse and take care of what we have. People don't care...and because of those ignorant ones our world will be destroyed.
Thats more like a dump than a landfill. In the USA the trash never sits like that because it is constantly being pushed and compacted. Then it is covered up with dirt in the afternoon. They dont pollute because they have liners and methane burning systems. No rodents either.
this landfill had so maney pollution in them and we had created them, we should stop this anduse reuseable stuff, so we would have less polluted space to live with in the future.
so, no styrofoam lunch tray, no plstic item unless emergence, so we can stop this pollution going on.
Whwn you're shopping, you could ask the shop owner if he/she knows how the products were made, how much pollution was created, how many workers were underpaid.
The first many times they will look at you as if you were a 7-eye retard from outer space, but when more and more customers ask, they'll get the idea that it's smart to know those answers.
We could start by partitioning the local Government, the Notary (legal expert from the Nederlands) the Crown representatives for the Kingdom of the Netherlands (who Bonaire is a dependency of) and then finally perhaps the Dutch GOvernment, and EU
You would think that there would be people at the dump to sort out the bad stuff. All dumps should be dug up and have the toxic stuff removed before it seeps into the water!
And this from an island that claims to be so ecologically minded about it's surrounding reefs? Better take care of the above ground first or there won't be any reefs to swim in eventually!

I have seen this landfill first hand. several common sense things should be done immediately:
1. no recognized hazardous waste, hello duhhh
2. tons of brush and plants should be shredded for mulch instead of wasting space
3. tires should be shredded and used to fix the crappy roads here :) instead of collecting water for the mosquitoes that spread Dengue
4. berms should be made to prevent runoff
long term, we should be looking into a modern lf w/ a liner and collection sys. & recycling
