I saw BOC in concert in El Paso Texas the year this album came out. My MOM took me to see them - but I swear I didn't hang out with her! hahahahaha. Those were the days man, I wish everybody could have been there.
After hearing this song for several years I finally saw the original movie...had I not known better I would have sworn the movie was based on the song. I think this may be my favorite Cult song of them all.
@gorgorpain Nosferatu is one of the worst movies ever made... the widow of the guy who wrote the book ( dracula ,I think) sued the producer for plagerism.... And demended that movie should not be released the actor who played the Nosferatu looked like a human rat !
@Freyja1133 Have you actually seen the movie ? "one of the worst movies ever made" while it was a 1931 classic from Murnau, the first Dracula movie from the novel of Bram Stoker. Watch your words, as this movie is considered as an all time classic for the german cinema and the beginning of the impressionnism in Europe.
@Lordnosferatu3 Yes,I did see the movie...When they showed it on TCM ( turner Classic movies) My apologies to the german cinema... But,the other part of my comment is a fact... Bram stoker's widow did have the film removed fromt he theatres ( in america) .... because of a plagerism law suit that she filed against Murnau...
@Lordnosferatu3 The 1922 film Nosferatu was an unauthorized adaptation of Bram Stoker's novel Dracula. Stoker's widow sued the producers of Nosferatu, and had many of the film's copies destroyed (although some yet remain).
The worst movie ever made crack that I made is only my opinion of the film....And it was sarcasm
The other videos of the songs on this album all have comments bashing rap, and then comes this video, which I consider the best song of the album (tied with Godzilla), and not one person has bashed rap. Amazing.
I have always loved this song classic music that tou just do not hear anymore its a shame. i also feel that Blue Oyster Cult is one of the most underated bands of all time
Drizzle--wow, you just shut me the hell up with your insightful and vicious reply. You put me in my place, man, and I'm sure I am quaking in my boots that some jr. highshcool kid shut me the hell up. Brazos, Mr. Drizzle, Brazos. I bet those brazos drip right into your buster brown shoes, boy, and make you sort of slosh around when you are due for reading class at noon and all that.
drizzle--I guess you have bottomed for most of them, so you are fit to judge. you're a moron--have you finished the final grade in high school yet? Have you studied the concept of "projection" yet? That P.E. teacher who catches your eye now and again--you want to bottom for him, but you don't dare? They are so yummy, drizzle--don't hold back, bottom for them with all your might, you will be rewarded. And then you won't have to compete for grades with...people with brains.
Psilocybin breaks down into Dimethyltryptamine, also known as the Spirit Molecule, it is present in many living things and is released when birth, death and dreaming occurs. It is symbolized in everything from Santa to Jesus Christ and beyond. Our true Connection lies in plants.
@Drizzlerman You're an idiot. Are you a negro or something? Your posts scream of "muh dik." Buy some skin bleaching creams and sign up for some human hormone therapy injections to raise your I.Q. level. This song is not about sex you monkey, it's about love. "He'd stayed too long in her room" does not refer to the time you spent in your 13 year old cousin's bedroom--go away, and let white people enjoy white music without trying to insert negro tribal bullscat into it. How long oh lord.
@Drizzlerman where do you get your "version" of these "lyrics"? are you saing that at 2:20 they are saying "sex" instead of "sickness now, then horrible DEATH"? Here kid, here's the whole stanza...
"Mortal terror reigned
Sickness now then horrible death
Only lucy knew the truth
And at her window
Nosferatu"
Do you also think that since the word "breast" is in it, it's a song about tit-clubs too?
0:45 sounds like he says 'trying to bang you'. This whole album and song is beautifully, hypnotic, and haunting. 2:39 Sounds like 'so chase some cunt.' This song is lovely. 'Only a woman can break his spell, pure in heart who would offer herself to Nosferatu.' I don't know why, but this song is good for listening to while chewing red licorice.
Seriously one of their best songs, but if you analyze the lyrics this is a really dirty song. I've been listening to Spectres a lot at night recently and it truly is their most majestic album, and an a follow up from the shiny gloomy sounds on Agents of Fortune
what is dirty about the song? its about a big ol' dumb vampire that stayed out to late and the sun came up, watch clips of the movie, or there is a video
is you understand the subliminals then you'll see it is using the vampire as a metaphorical device basically. He sucked her precious drops of life is about cunnilingus and when he vanishes into dust and leaves her all alon plus about the sun coming too soon is about ejaculation and then he leaves her. But it is a song about sexual tension and demise
The vampire is a sexual motif or metaphor as in the relation to Eros and Thanatos because a vampire combines those two concepts into a mythological figure and allows the drives for sexual pleasure and demise to be intertwined in it's thirst for blood or life essence in this case that of a virginal female
@Drizzlerman Cunnilingus? Have you ever heard of the legend of Nosferatu, or have you seen the movie of the same name? This song is basically a line for line remake of the movie. Cunnilingus, indeed:))
I bought 2 Blue Oyster Cult discs ( Agents of Fortune/Spectres) at Borders, 2 for 1 remastered/expanded editions and with the 5 dollar off coupon my total was $7.58 ....I'm pretty sure someone lost money on the deal, lol - Just call me Frugal McDougal.....
One of the - if not THE - most incendiary guitar solos that Buck Dharma has ever committed to record. A masterpiece of mood and shadow, where all the band members shine brilliantly. This is Blue Öyster Cult at the pinnacle of its art.
@slant40 Well put. Unfortunately, IMO, I don't think the band ever rose to this level again. Never seemed satisfied with their level of success. Subsequent forays into stripped down melodies was not, I think, very successful. I mostly blame Bloom & Roeser for this; thinking their own innate talents ought to escape Pearlman's original vision, a vision that was embraced by the Bouchards.
This album is one of the most overlooked and forgotten albums of all time. It rocks from start to finish. I thought Agents of Fortune was unbelievable but Spectres is a master piece. They just flat out kick butt and Rock-N-Roll.
What an epic way to close a great album. This song has my favourite chorus line of all time: "Only a woman can break his spell, pure in heart who will offer herself". So good it's unreal.
I recommend listening to this song and I Love the Night in the darkness lying down in the moments where you are in between sleep and awake; if you can time it correctly. Try listening to this one first followed by I Love The Night, they form a interesting couplet.
I know!! My understanding, though, is that Buck Dharma has recieved at least some of his deserved critical acclaim. The real problem is that almost nobody outside of the musically inclined community has even a vague familiarity with Buck Dharma.
One of those unique, un-categorizable Cult tunes (like Reaper, Morning Final, Vera, Golden Age, The Vigil, Deadline, etc.), neither straight ahead hard rock nor full ballad, that put BOC in a special, stand-alone place.
Yes, exactly! They owned their own special niche--something between metal and psychadelic rock, with a touch of the apocalypse for good measure. It is so very disappointing that they abandoned Pearlman's unifying vision for the band, then shitcanned Albert Bouchard. They have simply never been the same since then. As a long time fan, I consider this LP to be the pinnacle, a damn near perfectly executed, loosely constructed concept album.
Not sure if Drizzlerman is a troll, or really that ignorant.
