genre names are also used to categorize things so if you want to find something similar to it, you can just search for that genre and find other bands that fit into that category. i'll use an example i used before..say you walk into a store. You know all the isles are labeled for each of the different things they have (aka the genres) you go into the chips section to buy your favorite bag of chips just to see a ton of other foods where the chips are supposed to be (continued...)
and amongst those foods you only find one or two bags of chips. Wouldn't you wonder "wtf" or would you be fine with it? Wouldn't you want them to make it easier to find the chips and have them exactly where they're supposed to be and not all over the place? This is why we have labels and tags for things. To make it easy to categorize and find things you want to find..and that is why we have music genres. You wouldn't go in to find some metal and come across a row of country would you?

@Gorglazon Word of mouth and random online investigation. Great example, I was searching for local shows in my city. Saw a band called Blood Brothers where playing. I liked the name, went on purevolume, and sort of liked what I heard, so I went to the show. There I got a couple compilations, one of them had Hot Cross on there. I went back online, and yaddy yadda I found out about Saetia.
i've used similar arguments before. for some reason, people like to think that their smarter than everyone else because they can somehow transcend the limitations of genres and be all cool. Genres are not there to limit you, people. They're there because unless you classify things language breaks down entirely. The whole concept of nouns is to classify things. If you deny that the concept of a mammal is useful, then you can't really speak about that sort of animals at all

well here's the thing...what you're listening to now, is that originally was called emo/screamo
then a few years back someone started calling other bands like my chemical romance or bring me the horizon etc as emo/screamo bands..then people started hating on it not knowing what it really was. skramz is the term people are now using to refer to this type of music...however..i think by using it, it pretty much means they gave up on saying this is what screamo really is and leave the term to the newer style of music people thing of it as..however, i still refuse to use it for the new style and so i'll keep calling this screamo, the new stuff should be the one to take the skramz label

@sSTRE3TDR3EMZz94 Yes. I will explain this once. Bands like Saetia, Orchid and pg 99 are the true screamo bands. What people call screamo now, is not the original. THIS stuff is. So to tell on if your a true fan or just a poser, we call it Skram or Skramz. Not to get it mixed up. Because they really are different genres now. Only the best know what Skramz is.

@CamelianSandstorm im not a fucking true fan of screamo. i dont really care for it because it doesnt sound all that great to me! ok i have nothing against it! i like Post Hardcore and Hardcore Punk Types of music. and all i asked is if the song Apology by Alesana could be considered screamo because it sounds a lot like this.. it starts off slow in the beginning just like this but then its screaming through the rest of the song. but watever i dont really get genres these days. well here's the thing...what you're listening to now, is that originally was called emo/screamo
then a few years back someone started calling other bands like my chemical romance or bring me the horizon etc as emo/screamo bands..then people started hating on it not knowing what it really was. So now-a-days other people who liked this style of music are trying to educate the others to show them what screamo really is and not that sad excuse for music people thing of it as.

@Babyface6200 Just type is Saetia-A Retrospective cd download in google and youll find somewhere to download it from. Thats what I did 5 years ago. Its still around on the net. Just look. I know of a great site where you can download this cd and tons of other real screamo bands cds from. But its my lil secret cuz not many ppl know about it haha. But the site also has some bands as well thats not screamo. But still a great site nonetheless.
