I remember listening to the white blues bands back in the sixties and now I can appreciate the influence of Little Walter, who is not exactly a household name for many people. Check out the Super Blues CD, feat. Muddy Waters, Bo Diddley, and Little Walter! Critics have said that this is so-so, but it kicks ass. Also, the "Definitive Chess Collection" of Bo Diddley, all recorded between 1955 and 1957, which features Little Walter on several of the songs.
Hound Dog Taylor was so underrated. This is Hardtime Blues...
R.I.P. Little Walter, Hound Dog Taylor, Muddy Waters, Skip James, Son House, Earl Hooker, Koko Taylor, Willie Dixon, T-Bone Walker, Elmore James, Memphis Slim, Etc.
-u cant really tell little walter does all the stuff he did until u look at his hands he go some big ass hands and is tall ass fuck but sheesh ill still baggggg lol : )
Why did they delete your account? Too many "likes?" I see 902 right now. That's pretty wild...guess I'll add my own. By the way, I've got some raw slide guitar blues on my channel. Check Underground and Susanna Jones especially, for that kind of thing.
Gotta love HDT's Bottleneck Blues and Walter's gin soaked high voltage Mississippi Saxophone. I'd like to hear em jam on Mean Old World, I Need You(?), The Sun is Shining, Boom Boom (Out Go the Lights), or Give Me Back My Wig! HDT and Walter aren't given nearly enough credit these days.

For me, this is like having a video of Zeus or Odin. These were gods of the blues. No one was more down home than Hound Dog Taylor. Little Walter does a great job of backing him here. This is absolutely the real thing.
From what I understand Little Walter's Last gig was one with Hound Dog Taylor a night or two before Little Walter Passed on. How Poetic. God Bless Both of'em.

I hate comments about how music now can't compare to this, how no one now makes music like this, how we're never gonna see this again. If you've got 2 hands with at least 2 fingers on you can learn to play guitar or drums and if you've got breath in your lungs you can learn to blow harmonica. These guys didn't get to this stage by listening to Robert Johnson records and saying "music now can't touch this". If you like this music then learn how to play it and then write your own.
jesus. I didn't know hound dog went back to 67. Another one who got dick from the brits and hippies. I'm sure nothings truly deliberate, but fuck, I personally think he should'a got one top a pops tv show with the stones. Money.
seems really strange to see hound dog all dressed up like this. he looks good. one of the greatest slide guitarists of all time, and little walter... enough said. great stuff!
Some harp players say that Little Walter lost all his talent and couldnt play well. Come on now. He's playing better than we are. And all his has are his chops and marine band. Most of yall have $100 harps, $2,000 amps and $500 mics, trying to capture "the tone" hahaha...and still cant tell what kind of equipment you have. LOL... Just blow the thang. Peace.
Wow! Thanks for posting this video! This song has been one of my favs. for forty years; now I get to see them play! Hound Dog and Little Walter? Just classic. And yeah, Hound Dog Taylor cut off his sixth/pinky finger one night, cause he said "It was just gettin' in the way" (!) Gross but true.
Legend also has it that jimmy witherspoon had his chin removed and sellotaped to the back of his neck.An artificial chin was fabricated from cake mix but melted after a midget smoked a bong under it during a sandstorm. He then had his head removed and stuffed into a doritos packet before it was kicked into his neighbours cabbage patch and then his three legged mother ate a spanish fisherman. It's all swings and roundabouts in this game i tell thee.
Legend has it that Hound Dog Taylor had six fingers on each hand and his Mother had three breasts. He cut one of the extra little fingers off with a razor but kept the extra one on the other hand. He had massive thumbs too. There was a feature on him in one of the guitar magazines with a photo of his hands and an interview with him. Good time raucous player!
Kinda strange that this clip of "American" music is from European prime time tv while the US masses back then had only Ed Sullivan with British bands that named themselves after these guys or their songs ...
There is nothing strange about it. The United States was an apartheid state. I've said it before and here I'll say it again, if it wasn't for those white boys from England (excepting that no good thieving bastard, Jimmy Page) no one would know these guys' names. In America, all they would have gotten was stolen from and robbed blind... à la Pat Boone and Elvis.
No need to argue about the apartheid stuff, even thought the Brits weren't exactly known for their acceptance of all races back then - or even nationalities - Just take a look at Charlie's take on the "Irish Question".
There were many more musicians - white and black - in the US who played this music (better) and listeners who enjoyed it, without having to be fed public school boys' music by some under assistant west coast promo creeps: it was a question of Kapital, not kultur
@TreeLeg You obviously disagree with Muddy Waters who said that the Stones helped to get his career back on track through the interest shown in their music. Also the Stones were not public school boys. Finally I don't think that Germany has a great record on accepting other races.
@goatface1000 McKinley was a very magnanimous man, I ain't from Germany, except for Keith, I believe that all Stones were products of UK "public" schools and the US has long since topped anything Adolf could conjure except maybe the ovens. Which is probably one of the main reasons that real blues music can only come from place between Beantown and San Diego.
@TreeLeg Wrong Jagger was middle class but actually went to school with Keith. How has the US topped Nazi Germany? That is a really silly thing to write. If it had not been for the white boys from England playing the blues generally very badly then a lot of the blues guys would have faded into obscurity. The fact that some people would rather listen to Lep Zep rather than Muddy or Wolf or Robert Johnson just goes to show the lack of taste that some suffer from.
@goatface1000 The US topped the Nazis by far: Hitler was at war for about 6 years, the US has been at war + invading foreign countries more or less non-stop for almost 70. Sometimes under führer who weren't even elected. & the US has also not bothered to observe the rule of law. To deny such facts is more than "silly". As for the Stones, Muddy shoulda thanked the under assistant west coast promo men who put them on the charts & left out all the white and black US players who did it better.
@TreeLeg Whilst I agree that US foreign policy has been conducted in an aggresive fashion it cannot be compared to the horror and evil of the concentration camps. The US have never conducted genocide on an industrial basis. Six million jews died as a result of that madness. The blues were ignored by black America by the time the Stones were around, if it had not been for the sixties blues boom which started in England many of the blues players would have their careers ended.
In my early teens while learning to play the blues; Hounddog Taylor, Little Walter, Elmore James and Muddy Waters were my biggest influences but The DOG started the big blues ball rolling.
One of my friends said,
"Hey I heard about this new label called Alligator and you've GOTTA HEAR this record I bought." The rest is history.
God rest you Mr. Taylor, I'm sorry I never got to thank you.
He was my first musical hero, I began playing harp back when I should have been in school.
I was a street performer & by shear chance I was picked up by one of the founding fathers of the Aussie blues scene.
I had one rehearsal & the next week I was supporting one of the biggest blues bands in Australia. The rest is history & I'm 40 next year have many wonderful, funny, tragic & enlightening stories to go with my experiences.
@rievans57 Haven't you wathced South Park according to Cartman all black people have a Bass Guitar in their basment. This is a great vid. No racist intentions on the remark it was just a funny scene on South Park
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
That was really out of line. I'd rather listen to some of the better, less gangster, more life, rap than ACDC or Metallica. Alot of R&B artists are very worth listening to as well.
What the fuck are you talking about? It's not rocket science or revolutionary; black music was better from the 70 on back. It's just the truth. And what the fuck if I am white? Are you some 'black boy'?
Thanks for upload, I enjoyed this very much

Remember when black music was great?

This comment has received too many negative votes show
That was really out of line.

A better question would be "Remember when music was great?" I hate this over produced trash on the radio these days.
