Doing this in conjunction with efficient movement and strikes, you can do quite a lot of damage with minimal effort. Of course, I say if you really want to learn to fight. Learn a lot of different fighting styles... from long range combat, to close combat, to ground techniques. But even if you don't have time to do that and can only practice and learn one, one thing remains the same throughout. Martial arts isn't useful unless to spar and practice with real people!
It is all physiology and physics with push hands and close combat fighting.
You redirect a blow or force by 30 degrees you only take half of the force directly. Using leverage techniques and developing the muscle memory and stabilizing muscles while still keeping your center of gravity low, you can not only redirect a blow by a certain amount but also direct it in a way so as to throw your opponents center of gravity off of where his core is.
The issue with this style is about keeping your center of gravity low, and using leverage.
When practicing and sparring, things should be done softer and slower because the harder and faster a person throws a punch or charges at the practitioner, the more damage they may receive from the the counter and leverage moves.
People who don't understand this probably haven't taken any close combat martial arts. Even BJJ, Judo and Trap Wrestling, take things slow and softer when practicing.
Teacher Wang is in his eighties and has been through the Sino Jap war, he teaches applicable ideas from his heart... Its not about a game of give and take. Today there are not enough masters alive who have walked down the mountain and back, and not for sport either.
I will like to get the chinese version if possible Thank you very much for sharing your knownledgge and making all the valuable footage available for very one. xie xie.
your very welcome! They sold out in Taiwan before I was able to get copies here, and I dont know when they will restock them.... Maybe near future.. Sorry...
