  • that looks dangerous did you start with a pontiac 400 or the oldsmobile, i have the ta 6.6 pontiac motor mated to a factory 4 speed would love to get those kinda numbers.

  • I loved trolling trans ams in the late 70's in a hardloaded 70 GTX. Shut the cruise off, kill the AC and hammer it. Maybe the sight of that brick with 2.76 gears getting all light, and topping the suspension out made TA owners think the end was near. I dunno, but most TA owners backed off at/or before the 130mark which was allways a disapointment. Never ever had one try to hang till they run out of gear. They did look good in the rear view mirror.

  • 1978 TRANS AM BURNOUT.......HEEEELLLLL YEAAAH!

  • Is this the car from the magazine?

  • I would cheat on ford for this car

  • at Cash2112 i just bought my trans am a 77 wih 169,000 original miles, does the speedo tac really start over lol

  • @Fockenmyster It depends on your rear gear ratio, but the 2.41 gear cars have massive top end.

  • @Cash2112 I had a 1978 Firebird with the lowly 305, 2 barrel... LOL!! Those same 2.41 gears with only 3 speeds were worth a nice healthy top end. Off the line was a JOKE, of course... I LOVE those front ends!!! 1979 RUINED the look. Long live the 77-78 front end!!!

  • @marcomariaz26 Thats exactly my thoughts on the body styles. Ive had a 78 and a 79 the 79 front end always buged me though.

  • @marcomariaz26 Not as bad off the line as a 67 Impala with 307, 2 speed Powerglide and a 3.08 rear!

  • @Nivicoman Don't be so sure about that! At 145hp, that 305 was choked something fierce. I'll bet that Impala had more horses under the hood than that...

  • Nice!!!

  • You should have a healthy top end with that 2.41 rear gear. A friend of mine in high school had a '76 TA w/ a 400 and that 2.41 and we regularly wrapped the speedo needle past 100 mph, continued past the "MPH" all the way back to 25-30 mph. . .

  • DDDDDDDEE

  • Dzsaaaaa

  • Cool now with out power-braking it bet you can't burn them from dead stop without power-braking.

  • @bigpapas25 This car with run 11.90's with a 2.41 gear.I'll bet it can do a burn out without power braking it.

  • @MidnightinSavannah Yup. Pop some 3.73's and a slicks, it's running 10's all day...

  • Zzzss

  • Xxxx

  • how to tear up a nice car in no time ! IDIOTS

  • This is one of the cleanest and most powerful Trans-Am's of this body style on you tube. There are people saying they are making "500 horsepower" but provides no where near the sound or moves of this car. Very nice

  • Yeeeeep u bout lost her. And the Camera man lol. Nice car be careful out there.

  • nice car

  • got a little lose on ya hu? LOL!!!

  • pontiac power

  • hi there what motor you running ????

  • nice burnout but when she catches that can get you in trouble

  • @twinturrbo406 you got her a lil sideways! ahhh yeah!

  • @MultiShooter123 ........... really, hummm, it better be a real fast Corvette, considering this T/A runs mid 11's with a 3.42 gear it and a/c ........

  • @twinturrbo406 ill upload a video of mine but any stingray can wipe out a T/A easily

  • @MultiShooter123 ........ any Stingray ?? even an L82 mid-70's smogger vette huh ?You must be joking right ??

  • That's a beautiful piece of history you have there, my friend. Great color, too!

  • awesome

  • can't wait to do that with my car!

  • Comment removed

  • So beautiful, so clean, so stock appearing and puts out 600 modern day animal horsepower. So nice that car looked fish tailing like that. Like a Smokey & The Bandit movie recently filmed.

  • Made my heart go ... GUESS..

  • I had a '78. I really miss it. Those 2nd gen F-Bodies are the best!

  • 78 is along with 72 h.o and 73,74 s.d my favorite of the gm cars of those days

  • 403s is a big pile of junk just like the 301's they are geat however for boat anchers......

  • my dream car 1977-1981 trans am turbo t top

  • OMG.. Bro I bet you would have been pissed if you had wrecked that car... lol

  • @dbrandinni

lol ..... this car is actually in the issue of (HPP) High Performance Pontiac .... check it out .....

  • @dbrandinni a very stupid Man and a nice Trance AM Many greetings from CH-Zurich! =0_0=

  • @dbrandinni well of course he would..but obviously he knows how to drive so thats not to interesting of a comment. whats interesting is whats under the hood. plus, im sure he really wants ti hear that if he lost control he might've lost his car...

  • The 403 was mainly used because it breathed better at higher altitudes.Performance wise-the 400 is the better motor.

  • Thats a fucking bad ass ride my man

  • I'm gonna settle this with "the 455 kicks both their asses!" a 400 can't hold up to a 455, niether can the 403.

  • every 403 t/a ive had would run circles around the 400 t/as i had even the w72s unless they had 3:73s!the 77-78s are played out espicially some punk thats got a black one thinks hes the bandit and never seen any of the films

  • @bandit3271980 - for 1979 - HOT ROD Magazine got a 14.6 in the 1/4 mile out of a ( Stock ) 400 4 spd 79 T/A - The 403 Olds T/A's ran at best 15's -16's in the 1/4 .

  • @1Bandit455 I had a '78 400 "T/A 6.6" 4-speed and 3.42's, it had the "powerful" 220 hp. Car & Driver was doing 15.3's in the quarter and 6.5 second 0-60. Slightly quicker than the Camaro Z28 with the 350.

the '76 with the 455 wasnt much better. You had to go back to 1974 and the 455 SD to see anything different. These cars weighted about 3,750 lbs.

  • @7779107 - we had a 78 400 '' T/A 6.6 '' 4 spd T/A running 14.7's at our local track and it was fairly stock - open scoop - real duals no headers - minor tune .

NUNZI the Pontiac GURU got a 13.8 out of a Stock 78 400 4 spd T/A by just running open headers - no internals done .

  • @1Bandit455 wow, those are good times for that car in stock trim. I miss my old Trans AM (first car),Those cars had so much untapped potential though. Those motors were like big low-compression pigs. Just a cam, heads, headers, exhaust would bring them up to speed,..

  • 403's are garbage, the blocks are weak, and the heads, aren't even worth talking about, the port layout sucks, way too much bend in the short-turns and totally crap combustion chambers. Not to mention, it's arguably one of the ugliest V8's ever made ........

  • @twinturrbo406 not necessarily true for all 403s i have one in my 79 which i bought in 86 with well over 100,000 miles and it would smoke those tires like crazy that car was a daily driver up until 94 and yes till this day it still smokes the tires with well over 500,000 miles... just saying...

  • @MrTransAm1979

...... well, i don't mean to bash, the limitations of the 403 get in the way of it making really big power is all i'm saying, trying to get 700-800hp out of one is not very feasable ..... that's all, but yes, they can make really nice burnouts too ...... RPM is not the 403's weak link ......

  • @MrTransAm1979 the 403s and the 301s have one thing in common they would make great boat anchers........

  • @1badazz78 not my 403 and 301 ARE garbage

  • @MrTransAm1979 Holy dog shit, you have a T/A with over 500,000 miles on it and its still runnin fine? I knew these cars were tough but damn haha, thats gotta say somethin...and actually most people say the 403s made more torque than the 400s, just when you take a 1979 4-speed where you control the redline and crisp shifts vs a 1979 3-speed slush box you start to realize why collectors preffered the 400 cars haha. I'll be lookin for a 79' soon, any advice on what to look for or what to avoid?

  • @MrTransAm1979 500000 miles my ass!

  • @mynewpastime fuck you i think i would kno how many miles my car has

  • @MrTransAm1979 500000 miles my ass!

  • @mynewpastime

My dad's 6.2L Diesel from our Silverado (which doesn't have any rust and is canadian) has close to 500,000 miles on it. Let me take a crack at you're going to reply is going to be; "Bullshit, my ass!"

  • @mynewpastime my firebird formula 400's old engine had over 997000.

  • @rockurworld99 BULLSHIT

  • @mynewpastime i have almost 300k on my 1990 firebird formula.. she still runs strong.

  • @MrTransAm1979 and what the crap does power braking do its how quick you get from point a to point b duh , spinning your wheels is well fast tire speed car just crawling

  • ok? and i bet you drive a hybrid.

  • @twinturrbo406 All genuine Pontiac blocks look the same from the outside.

  • @bandit3271980 dude, lastly and most importantly... the 403 is an Oldsmobile block... in a T/A!?!?!? So, you're beloved 403 can go sit in a field somewhere. Putting an Olds block in a Pontiac is possibly a greater tragedy than Oedipus marrying his mother and killing his father.... Truly I say to you, some men are Baptist, others Catholic, my father was a Pontiac man.

  • @bandit3271980 If you think a 78 olds 403 can compare to a 72 400 pontiac-YOU HAVE ROCKS IN YOUR HEAD!

  • @bandit3271980 If your W-72 T/A was stock it would have had 3.23's with a auto.Only the '78 4 speed cars had a 3.42 gear.

  • @bandit3271980 Are you nuts or what a w72 t/a 6.6 pontiac motor will kill any 403.You really dont have a clue.220 h.p vs 185,3.42 gears vs 2.41,its not even worth talking about.

  • @bandit3271980 a w72 will killa 403 what the hell are you saying.

  • awesome burnout!

  • i'm never high man just saying they look like shit compared to 77--78 T/A

  • @lordcrusade

Have to agree. Owned a '78 myself and in my opinion, no other year can compare to 77/78. Awsome style all around and the nose! I hated the nose on the '79. The headlights look like boxes.

  • I totally agree. I owned a 77 w/the pontiac 400 and a 4speed. Lucky 4 me to find the 4 speed. I think the 400 pontiac was also way stronger and just alot better than the olds 403. Yes the 77&78 were the best looking by far.

  • 400 was def a better engine, the 403 were notorious for weak cam bearings plus who wants an Oldsmobile engine? All that weight for a whopping 185 horsepower you were better off with a small block chevy

  • You must be gay.........

  • no, last I checked I like boobies

  • Lmao !!

  • nice boobies are pretty amazing

  • A 78 Trans Am would help out ALOT picking up chicks lmfao i should know

  • i Just Damn Realized my 4 Speed That bought 2 months ago not only is W72 Car its also a WS6 car...Found the original PHS Docs on the fuel Tank when i droped the tank to restore...

  • had the same thing happen when i dropped the tank on my vette......why do they put them there??

  • thanks Agian for the info..

  • Thank you Twinturbo406 for the info can you once again clearify the numbers on the crank and other BBC 6.8 Rods dtails Please..

  • The 461 stroker kits are very common, you use the 400 block, then a 4.250 stroke crank with 3.00 mains and the 6.800 rods with the pistons for this kit, and bammo, it's a 461 with small main journals. Just check Kauffmans Racings website and you'll have everything you need.

  • To All of you TA Fans Im Am A Trans Am Man Myself confused Trans Am man and Im Restoring My 78 W72 4 Speed Frame Off and Im done with the Suspension goin on to the 400 motor Sould I stay with Stock martinique Blue With light Blue Interior or go with Black bandit With black interior your opinion is very appreciated ...

  • Well, the blue is very eye catching, i'd be partial to the black myself, but it really matters what you like. As for the motor, you'd better look at putting a 4.250 crank and BBC 6.8 rods in that motor, it's too cheap not too, and you'll have a 461 when yur' done. you won't belive the TQ she'll make, let me know if you need help with the motor stuff.

  • run bandit , run !!!

  • vraiment belle!!!

  • Damn.. now thats muscle what are the hp and tq. numbers

  • well, the last time we had it on the dyno, she made almost 560hp & 610 ft.lbs., it has a real nice Sreet/driven Hrd. Rllr. in it. Only 238 degrees @ .050. Car drives real nice.

  • Dang im going to do i mild build with all forged internals and change the cam out not sure fr what yet though my goal is just 400.. yours is badass though

  • what mods to motor.. is it a 455 bored.

  • 400 block, with 4.250 forged crank, APD Stage 3 Aluminum Heads, Hyd. Rllr, RPM Intake, fully ported, CFT carb, 2,800 conv., 3.23 gears, full exhaust, tail pipes and all. It's gone a best of 11.8's so far, but it has a really bad traction issue, but not for long, just trying to catch up the funds.....

  • thats fuckin nice.. i wanna better motor in my 79 t/a.. i like your 78 way better though. ahah

  • damn almost lost control! When i get my 77 T/A i want it to have a 400hp pontiac engine 6.6L and stainless steel pipes.....beautiful sound right there! you're t/a is awesome too!

  • 78 ta 6.6 w72 4 speed 220 h.p was one of my favorite cars i ve owned 15.3 at 96 mph at the time was the fastest american car along with the l82 corvette.

  • ya 77 n 78 T/A's do look good i have a Gold 78 T/A kicks ass but i really don't like the 80 T/A's they made them look like shit i wish they coulda did a better job on them

  • are you high?? the 79 80 and 81 were awesome!! if you're talking about 83 to 89 then yeah they arent as good but no they arent shit.

  • no, the 77/78 look wayyyy better than the 79.80.81's

  • Your car is beautiful. Hopefully I'll have the honor of owning one, eventually =)

    Rock on man!

  • Sweeeet! Nice exhaust note too. Bandit in blue looks gooooddd!

  • THAT WAS SICK.

  • It's really close to being a darker shade of Lucerne blue, the car been painted, so i'm not sure exactly. But the 78's did come in a color very similar to that. She perty ain't she ??????

  • yes Its beautiful. I have never seen it that shade and was wondering what color it was. It looks great in that body style.

  • david068513-the factory color blue for 78 was called Martinique Blue. 78 was the only year it was available.

    Nice car tt406.

  • nice car! What color is that? Is that a factory color? I really like it.

  • almost lost control at the end! madd good burnout

  • pretty blue

  • that isnt disgusting at all you piece of rodent turd. The Trans Am of 1977 and 1978 is the best car in the world along with the 1979-81 T/A so go get a real car like a trans am. BULLSHIT TRANS AMS KICK ASS!!!!! Get lost

  • That thing is a beast, i heard you had Stage 3 Anderson Head Porting on that motor?? Do you know that guy ??

  • Yes--one mean Street Machine.

  • that is one bad ass trans am!!!! and one nice burnout that car looks fast !!!!!!!
