This pc costs 2x as much, has a 64GB hard drive, nothing higher (the macbook air starts at 80GB). It has a 4hr battery, the air has a 5hr.
The air has innovation pcs can't match. Even the first competitor to the air couldn't win.

It'll read from either a PC or a Mac. Kudos to Apple. Ive always been a PC loyalist and this new Macbook Air instantly sold me over to Mac.

Seriously, my first reaction was negative about the laptop not having an OD. But for $100 measly bucks you can use an external CD/DVD burner. I mean, really, how often do you use your OD in your laptop. I realized that I don't use it very often at all.
That's a good point, for myself I use my first Black MacBook as my main computer/desktop. I use my second Black MacBook for carrying around the house to different rooms or taking it out etc..
I would use the MacBook Air as a secondary system but I'm not sure about the battery issue not being able to remove it..

This is shame on the MacBook family!! Personally, I have a MacBook and I don't see much in the Air. It has no CD-Drive and the battery is non-replacable. It is also more costly than the MacBooks. It only has one USB port and no Firewire. Think about that before you go but the Air.
That's the purpose of it, it's for people who don't require a drive which suits them. I do agree about not being able to replace the battery, Apple might rethink that issue.

I own two Black MacBooks, one I use in place of a desktop for personal use etc, the other I use for taking it everywhere.

I think this computer makes some sense. Its basically trying to make everything wireless, no cds cause everyones got an ipod and download music, and now they offer movies to download, so it makes sense not to have an optical drive, apple is just pushing it. But the price doesnt warrant purchase, too much for too little.
The only reason this is that thin is because there is no optical drive. Dell and the other major computer hardware developers would have made this laptop a long time ago if it were not for the optical drive. Apple sucks. Sell to microsoft already and get it over with.
That beats the purpose of having a "mobile" computer." Any why go through all of that just to do something that should be included by default. Anyone can make a laptop that small w/o an optical drive. Apple has done nothing new.

This is shame on the MacBook family!! Personally, I have a MacBook and I don't see much in the Air. It has no CD-Drive and the battery is non-replacable. It is also more costly than the MacBooks. It only has one USB port and no Firewire. Think about that before you go but the Air.

That's the purpose of it, it's for people who don't require a drive which suits them. I do agree about not being able to replace the battery, Apple might rethink that issue.

ur right i hate without CD-Drive. and it so smallest that cause computer have lot of heat turning into overheat or fire oh and i think the have smallest fan and it going be 3x loud or louder than macbook pro if then dont fan well macbook air will have hotter heat that cause computer bust it and one USB ports that dumb, i mean what were they thinking, u need one for ur ipod, another one for ur printer. so ya think little bit harder before u buy it.

I own two Black MacBooks, one I use in place of a desktop for personal use etc, the other I use for taking it everywhere.
The MacBook Air is for people on the go who don't require a built in DVD drive etc, yet you can still download software two ways buy the external MacBook Air drive or use any Mac/PC using the wireless capabilities.
The cost of the MacBook Air you can buy a decent Black MacBook, Do The Math..

the only reason it's thin it's cause it has NOTHING. it's just looks. Same w/ other apple products, people get it because it's "cool" (except for the iMac, they're nice) to have an iPod. most of them knows only how to get iTunes and put songs on it and nothing else.

I think this computer makes some sense. Its basically trying to make everything wireless, no cds cause everyones got an ipod and download music, and now they offer movies to download, so it makes sense not to have an optical drive, apple is just pushing it. But the price doesnt warrant purchase, too much for too little.

If there were either more usb ports or super cheap and abundant solid state memory available this would be quite the Personal Computer.
That being said it's overpriced as all hell for what it can actually do. The WOW value is lost on me.

The only reason this is that thin is because there is no optical drive. Dell and the other major computer hardware developers would have made this laptop a long time ago if it were not for the optical drive. Apple sucks. Sell to microsoft already and get it over with.

Such a waste!
Why its a waste:
-only 1 USB port
-only able to do 2GB of RAM
-no optical drive... so no DVD's and/or CD's
-no built in ethernet port!
They sell teh USB ethernet stick seperately but what if you need to use a memory stick + CD/DVD + ethernet line at the same time! YOU LOSE!
THIS IS DEFINITELY A PRE-MATURE COMPUTER! APPLE, DO BETTER!

if i am a liar then apple is a liar. calling their first ever thin slaptop the thinnest in the world....can you say 1.72lb is lighter than 3lb? and can you say 0.7in is thinner than 0.75? how bout battery life being 12hrs long and replaceable? and how about the thinnest laptop with an optical drive? mac is way advanced. made for the future huh. havent you guy done any research and comparing specs at all or do you just believe whatever apple tells you.

boojoo if u don't like don't buy it, that's it. personaly i believe there are some aspect that should b changed (like the amount of USB ports, one is definately not enough...) but in general the computer is absolutely marvelous and very original, it fits perfectly to my needs, i'm gonna buy it soon!

I thought it was interesting. Until I found out there is no Ethernet port, no disc drive, and you cannot replace the Harddrive, RAM, or BATTERY.
So its pretty much its a laptop you cant upgrade that costs more.
However people will still buy it and enjoy it.
