  • Careless Jewel is just a cutie. She would've looked good in the winner's circle. If trainer, owner, and jockey made the plan to hold her until near the the end she would've blasted like a rocket to the finish line first. But that's just what I think.

  • this race gave me the chills. lol

  • It didn't really surprise me that Life is Sweet ran such a big race, and closed so well on the synthetics at Santa Anita. She ran the same style of race that she's ran almost every time that she's faced Zenyatta. Just that Zenyatta is a more powerful closer than Life is Sweet is. The filly that I thought would finish better than she did in the race was Rainbow View. She really is quite a talented filly. But she may have been better suited for the Filly&Mare Turf than this race. IMO.

  • hehehe, Life is Sweet has been taking some notes from Zenyatta

  • getcreamed, are you just plain retarded?

  • Life is Sweet is owned by Pam & Marty Wygod, Zenyatta is owned by Moss. They are trained by John Shireffs.

  • Life is Sweet is owned by the Wygod she is a full suister to 2yo champion Sweet Catomine. The Wydos's have zero insentive to reduce the value of thier horse by going "soft" on Zenyatta. Last year Zenyatta ran this race this race two seconds faster then this years Champion Life Is Sweet.

I've been reding your Zenyatta hating comments for some time, I don't wish to insult you but you really should know something before commenting. You are looking very foolish and quite ignorant.

  • CJ's jockey is Robert Landry, a top jockey in Canada with over 2,000 wins. Look at the way the jockey's holding the reins and leaning back against the stirrups, he's doing all he can. Careless Jewel just wouldn't rate in this race at all.

RL said, " "My first quarter was good - slow for her. But before we turned into the backstretch she took off.

"She locked into the bridle. She was running off. I hate when they open up that fast."

  • @keybender I agree he was doing all he could

  • What happened to C.J? I couldn't really tell. But I now see what happened. I don't blame the jockey but who was riding her??

  • So, now that Zenyatta is retiring and LIS will keep racing, let's start on next year's controversy. Who would win, Rachel Alexandra or Life is Sweet?

  • Lets see if RA and LIS are racing next year. LIS has yet to prove she can run on dirt, but if LIS can run on dirt like she runs on syn at Hollywood Part or Santa Anita then I give her a chance at 9f or longer.

  • @keybender

    Damn, that's a tough one.

For Life is Sweet, I mean. ;)

  • Anyone who knows about horse racing and watches this race can see that Careless Jewels jockey had a rank filly to deal with and there was almost nothing he could do. When horses get in a mood and want to run, you can be the strongest jock in the world and you aren't settling that horse down. This wasn't by design.

  • And if anyone thinks the above is not true just go to the nearest stable, a little before feeding time, then take a rent horse out for a ride and watch what happens when you turn it towards the barn. Some of my scariest rides where heading back to the barn (at high speed), and I was on trained TBs not rent horses, lol,

  • It was said in after race interviews that Careless Jewel had grabbed the bit and was having no part of listening to her jockey. So you can't really blame the jockey if she got in that mood.

  • Nice run by LIS, maybe RA will give LIS a go next year? Hope LIS stays in training. With Zen gone, LIS is Calies best filly.

  • I guess Careless hadn't heard the news about pro-ride. A suicide pace for any track but even worse on pro-ride.

  • As hartparr says, LIS is not owned by Moss. You really don't know anything about this sport do you? You must be new.

  • I do wonder if the owner/trainer did tell the jock to send her up ahead early.

  • what the hell CJ is that normal?? or is it a new type of racing lol, poor think her jockey sucks but i think jockeys do what the owners tell them,

  • No reason to blame the Jock????... You crazy?... If the race had another half furlong C.J. died. Poor filly. Careless Jewel is a animal not a Ferrari.

  • I dont know how people fancied Rainbow View and was even more shocked when they said she was dissapointing when only fifth.

  • jockey for careless jewel used all her energy too quick.thats a shame because she went from first to last.

  • Very nice a shame Careless Jewel didn't get a good run out of it idk what her jock was thinking having her out that quick that early but oh well

  • How glad are these girls' owners Zenyatta chose to run against the guys? They all would've been racing each other for 2nd against her. Can't wait for the $5 mil classic!

  • Great run by Garrett Gomez.

  • CJ was not herself in this, but Life is Sweet was definitely impressive... Still, the absence of Icon Project & the hype about Stardom Bound's alleged return in this event made it lose some lustre for me...

  • Careless Jewel was a bit to free in the far side. But I think that Life is sweet was too good for these

  • not on dirl its synthetic

  • No reason to blame the Jock, dis filly is just better on dirt, she ran like she always does..

  • @kdbuu, I agree that Careless Jewel raced exactly like she always does in the Ladies Classic. I also agree that Careless Jewel races better over conventional dirt than she does over synthetics. But on Ladies Classic day, it didn't seem to be the surface that was Careless Jewel's problem in the race as much as it was her stamina. IMO.

  • the jokey of Careless Jewel was battering and sent to Afghanistan.

  • She grabbed the bit. He couldn't control her after that
