Is this really the ONLY Jackie & Roy video available? It just does not do them justice because The Word wasn't their kind of music. They were fabulous jazz performers. I had the pleasure of seeing them live, and I think I have every audio track available, but surely there must be more video footage. Please?
It's great to see a video of Jackie & Roy, but as earlier comments have said, it will be a shame if this is the only video posted for them. Their great version of "Mountain Greenery" introduced me to them 40+ years ago. This late-60s attempt to get contemporary is nothing like what they were really about. Jackie had one of the most beautiful and pure solo voices of all time. Her ballad singing was incomparable. Roy was a very talented pianist-arranger who complimented his wife perfectly.
Agreed - this isn't really representative of what Jackie and Roy were best at. As cool a rendition as it is of a pretty simplistic Beatles song, it is really Jackie and Roy trying to survive into the sixties as their old act became "dated" in the eyes of audiences...
For some reason they never climbed above the lounge level, albeit some big lounges - no hit singles - in spite of being highly rated by greats like Ella, Sarah Vaughan and even grumpy old Miles Davis.

This blows. they ruined a good beatles song...
What rock do these stupid people crawl out from under that make fools of themselves by writing stuff like this. They probably don't even know who the Beatles were let alone Jackie & Roy....... Idiots.....
Aw, c'mon, haters, it's Diana Krall's parents, for godssake; nobody's parents are cool.
In 1964 they were authentically hip, but the effort expended to change with the times is apparent in this clip. If you can find "I Love You Real" you'll have a better sense of their metier. In the words of Stan Freberg, "if the kids can't bop to it, BOMBSVILLE!"
I don't think that they are Diana Krall's parents...Roy's last name is spelled Kral... for triva's sake, Roy had a sister, Irene Kral, who was a great vocalist and recording artist..were she alive, she could sing circles around Diana Krall.

These people are a bunch of suited hippy cunts. Nice drumsticks there! What the fuck are they all about. The bas player has a nasty slicked greaser and that bird is filth
Jackie & Roy are one of the great discoveries for those unaware of their music. His arrangements were so great and she was arguably the most gorgeous woman and greatest singer in Popular music.
They were so terrific, I wish i came up back then. That piano is so cool, the sound, is it a clavenete? Them and the free design own this style of sound.
Then don't you listen to them...if their music DRAINS your favOUrite 'Beetles' song.(gawd!)You poor thing. I had the pleasure of hearing them in the late 70s, with Bernstein's Mass', "Simple Song". Simplicity has never been so beautiful.
Roy died and I imagine Jackie has stopped performing. Their music was fresh, complex and showed off Jackie's uncanny intonation and Roy's undersung piano styling. Listen to "You Smell So Good," "East of Suez," or "Spring Can Really Hang You Up the Most" to get their greatness (forget the Beatles covers). I will miss Roy and I wish Jackie (both of whom autographed my CD of "East of Suez") the best in the remaining years of her life. I thank them for the gift of artistry.
It's amazing to see them on YouTube!! They were good friends of my dad's. I can remember them coming over all the time when I was growing up, my parents would always throw dinner parties. They also were also perennial guests at our waterfront home on Nantucket. Dad would sometimes play some of their records for other people, but it wasn't the main topic. Jackie and Roy were just regular people to us.
So easy to forget that the celebrated are just people. Roy called me once from the Fairmont in San Francisco just let me know when their show would start in San Jose. I had left a message and he responded.
You were so lucky to have had them around you so much. Consummate artists. I hope you enjoy their music now. I wonder who's doing anything like their music in contemporary jazz. Thanks for your comment, redcarsarasota.
Jackie and Roy are better than this, a lot better. I can't argue with them for going with the tide to make a buck, but almost anything in their recorded oeuvre is far better music and far better done. I'm a big fan and it's sad if this is their only thing availble on video.
Yes, I agree that Jackie & Roy are better than this. I heard them play several times during the late 1960s at a Boston club; they put on a great show and had good improvisations. This recording is not on par with their best work.
OK, I thought I'd bust on this but it's quite wonderful. Nice jazzy arrangement with great harmonies and solid playing. They really made "The Word" their own. I love Jackie's white lipstick.
i think they broke up too early they were GREAT together thanks

If you like Jackie and Roy, get the "Double Take" album. It's my favorite album of all time.
It should have won at least 5 Grammies.
Fabulous!!!!!!!!
