Also, computer hardware has improved one whole metric fuck ton in processors and graphics processors.
A playstation 2 can't do HD. Neither does any PS3 render any ps2 game in any level of HD. PCSX2 can play ps2 games with high definition internal 3d engine sizing.

get latest beta it will work full speed. see my video. you can achieve same results with good settings. x3 cycle can cause lag in games, i tend to use x2 for demanding games like gt5 and no cycle for others such as ff X. r 1888 will run full speed.
The glitching in an out were my bad, with the frame skipping set as high as it was and recording on top of it, it looks way worse in the video than it actually played normally. I'll try to post a video showing some better settings for various games.
As you pointed out, the glitches are entirely a problem of VU-skip. It never worked too well (being a huge hack and all), and lately I think you're better off using regular speedhacks ;)

Yeah, I notice some games perform better with no frame skipping at all, requires experimentation to get the best results in almost all cases.
