It was a third party candidate, conservative party, not of the GOP, that severely beat the GOP candidate, and almost won. Would have won if the 5.1% of the votes the GOP candidate got, would have been cast for the conservative party candidate. The GOP certainly isn't calling this a win, but the conservative party, coming out of nowhere, to trounce an entrenched GOP man, is.

Why is it more reasonable that people in power never talk to each other? what U.S needs is a multi party parliament, like in Canada. If you look at their political structure, you wont see the political circus. No radical reps, or news pundits, and no moronic accusations. You wont see clowns like Palin, Joe Wilson, Bachman, Coulter, Limbaugh, Ingraham, Hannity, Beck. In a 2 party system, if one party becomes outdated, you will be stuck with it for a while. In Parliament, it will be reduced to a fringe minority, since other parties can offer something better.

Normally, I think Cenk is pretty balanced. In this case I think he is mischaracterizing Russ Baker's argument. Its not that some guys in a smoky room just select the President, and completely subvert the democratic process. However, these guys do have enough power to influence the media and culture to where they can indirectly influence elections at the state, local, and federal level. Baker's argument is far more nuanced than Cenk is making it out to be.
