  • Can anyone tell me what you call that bright colored fabric the dancers were wearing? In the Virgin Islands we call it "madras". This quadrille dance is a little similar to ours (especially the music), but we have "callers" who call out the next moves to the dancers.

    I know this is late but yes we also call it madras and some times there are callers, but usually you memorize an entire dance or improvise with your partner

In the Virgin Islands although many of the schools teach quadrille, we are well behind in implementing the law that requires us to include all aspects of our history and culture in the school curriculum. Do you teach St. Lucian and Caribbean history and culture to all your school children at all grade levels in St. Lucia?

  • We should never let the St.Lucian culture down.Teach the school children how to dance the quadrille and speak patios. I left my island thirty five years ago and speak patios to my kids and grand kids and they all understant even though the grands are all Americans I'm proud to be a St.Lucian American.
