I'm not saying that he is better than players that had better resultsbeing more profesional, but I think he could have been better than he was, I don't know if #1 because Federer was unstoppable, but #2 and winning a couple of Slams and more Mastters 1000 sure.

@TheWindupDream Yep, he should have won the Us Open 2003, against Hewitt in 2002 he was young, and Hewitt was #1. But he was unlucky against Roddick in that SF and the crowd and the umpire didn't help.

And Nalbandian never cared too much about tennis, he played to be top 10, not to be number 1. He always wanted to have time to do other stuff , I know all tennis players have hobbies too. But sometimes he was in the middle of the tennis season running car races with his team in Cordoba.......

I agree that hard work and results are what matter, I admire players like Nadal or Vilas (or football players like Maldini or Nedved) but didn't Nalbandian get results too??? Not many players reached SF in all GS.

@TheWindupDream Obviusly Nadal had a better carrer than Nalbandian, but I think Nalbandian was more talented. Are results more important?? Probably, but you can't say that talent is subjective. Nalbandian has skills that only a few players have (his backhand is simply PERFECT). In the last years I'd say that only Federer and Safin were more talented than him. But he never really cared about tennis. He liked to enjoy other things in life, playing 50% of what he could he reached #3 (continues)

@TheWindupDream No one is 10 times better than a player who was #3, reached SF in all 4 GS, was in the top 10 /12 from 2002 to 2008 (7 years, and they weren't more because he had surgery), won two Masters 1000, a Masters Cup, defeated Federer 8 times (in clay, hard, indoor) etc. And talent is subjective?? So i can say I'm more talented than Federer, Mc Enroe and Safin together?? If you watch tennis, you realize that some players ARE more talented than others.

@TheWindupDream Because he is more professional. But Nalbandian as a player is better, that's why he beat Nadal so easily before he started having troubles with all the injuries and surjeries. I mean, of course Nadal had a better carrer, but Nalbandian is far more talented.

@TheWindupDream I think its a long shot to say that a former world #3 is half the player of anybody. And grand slam count isn't always the best way to determine greatness when you are talking about players that have ever been in the top 5. Going by your standards djokovic isn't half the player of federer or nadal because he has 13 less than federer and 7 less than nadal even though thats obviously not true.

@301bignick ppl these days are getting too excited about djokovic. let him first win a decent nr of slams before we propel him into the nadal or fed category. he has a chance tho to become an all time great but dont count out nadal yet because hes the kind of guy that always raised his level every yr and topped the best. knowing him, he will try to do everything to achieve that again. fed himself is 30 now so cant expect him to contend for the top titles again, its between djok and rafa now.

He might look like a chubby hillbilly, but that there shows why Nalbandian is one of the purest talents in tennis. That's incredible footwork and completely improvised. Would love to have seen him play a prime Rios on a medium hard court.

Man, Nalbandian is such a talented player. I cant believe he didn't win a major. Well his mind is not completely on tennis and that's probably the only reason. On his day he can beat anybody

If you have seen any clips of him in 2003, he was much fitter and moved extremely fast around the court.

I don't think so, his weight doesn't affect his game much. I remember that in 2005 he didn't even plan on playing the masters cause he was a backup player, so he was ready to go fishing in Argentina. Out of nowhere he was called to step in, he took a 30-hour flight from Buenos Aires to Shanghai and won the tournament beating Federer in the final. He came there relaxed, didnt really expect anything and played his best tennis. Even then he was a few pounds overweight but he was on top of his game
