As a consumer of the leftovers I give your Thanksgiving food a big thumbs up. I used to make a sweet potatoe mash didn't you ever have it? They're good cut and roasted round the joint like parsnips as well.
I love yams/sweet potatoes! And they are so good for you too! Have you tried french fried sweet potatoes?? They are yummy too! :-) That was a very different way of doing the yams than I have ever had. In my family, we usually mash them with butter, brown sugar, cinnamin, and salt, then add marshmellows on top and bake until the marshmellows are golden brown. I'll have to try this new recipe...:-)
I'm going to try both those ideas-I think your way of doing the yams with marshmallows is more what John had in mind when he told me about them, but I found this recipe for them cooked in their jackets and thought I'd give it a go!
Ah, the mushrooms did look delicious. Ive never eaten the sweet potatoes like that, but i made sweet potato pie and used the excess for sweetpotato walnut muffins. I still have som any leftovers, the Pie is making wear elastic waistband pants today.. LOL
its refreshing to see someone trying american food im canadian my self so are foods are pretty much the same i dont think iv ever tryed english food no offence but some of it sound shorible
Can't beat a good roast beef dinner with yorkshire pudding and gravy! Or Fish and chips (from the chippy, never quite the same when you make it at home. Although usually it's chinese takeaways that sell fish and chips, still a very English meal!)
Looks like everyone enjoyed their meal! It looked very yummy. Well except for I've never been a fan of sweet potatoes. However, the other day for the first time I tried a few sweet potato fries which were surprisingly good. They didn't seem to have quite so strong a sweet potato flavor.
Loved the zooming at the beginning. I wonder if you had Nic working overtime behind the camera zooming on command ;) She did love the food!
Warm and lovely is the way I can describe this family video. God I want stuff mushrooms now. And don't worry, we've got 20 years before start 'gardening' lol
I celebrated Thanksgiving back in October, but even I like to celebrate the holiday in November by posting greetings on people's channels. Sweet potatoes, I love sweet potatoes...... now I'm looking forward to when Christmas comes along. :)
Ahh yes, I have learned from YT that Canadian Thanksgiving is earlier than American! But you know, you could fit in three Turkey Dinners if your as inclusive as I am lol!
I think I may try the simpler version soon! I don't have a sweet tooth, the first taste of those marshmallowed yams was way too sweet for me-better the next day when I cut deep into them and balanced them with savoury.
But yeh, I think I shall try them with just butter salt and pepper ;)
The yams were too sweet for me first time round, but today i had leftovers and I sliced right through to get a full taste instead of scooping off the top. I don't have a very sweet tooth, but balanced with savoury, the 'candied yams' were actually very nice, although very different to anything I'd normally eat! Worth a try if you're ever given the opportunity :)
It fill my heart with joy to share an American tradition with you, my friend! I loved the video and the beautiful wishes!!!! P.S. My pumpkin pies were awesome, but then, I digress.... Hee hee! Love you!
Mother, you are such a warm loving friend, I am so lucky to know you :)
(does that get me some pie? lol!)
When John was telling me some of the dishes traditional to have at thanksgiving he suggested I search your channel! I wonder, have you un-veiled your pumpkin pie recipe yet? I know you teased Furni with them, but don't remember instructions on how to make them!(if you'll share, I'll have a go at making one next October! Or I'll gatecrash your next TG if I can make it over to America lol!)
I feel lucky to know you, too :) Ah yes, you are always welcome to come over for some pie and coffee :) I have not yet shared my recipe with YouTube, but I just might share it with you :)

I might try the fries! I have about 4 different recipes for sweet potatos now. The one I tried here was a little too sweet for me.

I was pretty lazy about it and got the frozen sweet potato fries:)

LOL @ the gardening remark - watch it turn out to be fun, too.
I didn't know that about pumpkins over there. And however American that desert is or isn't, it still looks yummy.
The entire meal looked delicious!

Sarah Palin would go a step further than Zipster and say 'Those mushrooms would rock with a little Polar Bear meat in there!' ;)
Love you tons, I'd like to hear exactly how your family do their yams!
samsarajade 3 years ago
I would try almost anything once except for bugs and sea food, but the yams don't sound all too good.
The mushrooms actually look very good.
