This is the most vocally challenging show I've ever done IMHO, and my singing was limited to the chorus parts (I was Jack Scott, rock it!), I can't imagine having to do Troy's parts.
take it from someone who has played Gabriella, this song is not easy to attempt. It's very hard to find a singer who can hit such low notes, and then such high notes at the same time. It takes work, and honestly I give mad props to anyone who attempts it. I think that the major fault in this is that they didn't put enough emotion or focus into the song. They should have stuck more to what was written instead of doing they're own thing thoughout the entire song, and made their sorrow believable.
I think this song is one of the hardest in the show its hard to get right singing it is a nightmare because its all different i know that it took my sister who did the show 4 weeks to perfect it.
Gabriella sang too broadly or sumthin...she was trying too hard...and she sang through her nose some of the time...and the harmonies were wrong!!! and the last note should have been unison!!! i dk what troy did...but it wasnt good...that wasnt how it was written cuz i did this play too...i played gabriella and this song was just done wrong...ugh
What Troy did is called a "musical riff" and is often used in singing pop-inspired scores such as HSM. The song was adapted to better suit the performer's voices. Our Gabriella sounded fine, what you are refering to is probably recorder echo that was produced by the hand-held video recorder picking up the vocals from a very large sound system in a gym. ....Not that singing 'broadly' is horrible anyway. Meek or Timid singing isn't exactly something to be proud of, or aspire towards.
sorry Dramageek but you should not throw terms like "musical riff" around so freely. Riff's are suppose to improve the quality of a song add a sort of "wow" factor. The things eh changed only made me cringe.
Gabriella was alright. I have heard much better and he head voice is nothing to be proud of.
I agree.....but why does EVERYONE take the "I didnt mind" bit down??....it sounds sooooo much better up.. Il take a video of amtc (the company Im doing it with Im playing Martha) and show ya
the reason "i didn't mind" is taken down is that it is written that way in the script. we're doing this musical too, and we were told we couldn't change anything, so maybe that's what she was doing. just following the music.

She wasn't greally great. She didn't act very well also. Troy was alright except for his high notes. It harmonised well though.

This was the best attempt at this song than any of the schools that did this play.
