I would love her to release an album that had more songs like this and Citizen of the Planet and less poppy dance "filler" stuff. This would be a great sound for her.
Flavors of entanglement, for me... remaining the best studio album of Alanis Morissette and this song it's an amazing rock version song & Alanis performance it's... brilliant how her voice, full of POWER.... STUNNING!!!!!

Alanis can express every aspect of life in her songs. She's a genius. Guys also try her songs- 'no apologies', 'wunderkind', 'you owe me nothing in return' 'so called chaos' , pray for peace', 'dear prudence', 'it's a bitch to grow up', 'madness', 'on the tequila', 'break', ............................

ironically (no pun intended) i like this album better than jagged little pill. i think there is more musical variety. why didn't this album et much attention?
@carminaburanafan well to answer your question....the album did very well on billboard...it was in the top ten of album sales, but for some reason the radio neglected this..not sure why...when Alanis did an interview with Howard Stern, the one thing he kept saying over and over to Alanis was that the album was very well written....he also said she writes very well when a relationship ends...but to be honest, I felt this cd deserved a grammy nomination..I believe she did get a juno for this
@andrewwowk the album that this came from is kinda a throw back to her anger. have you heard The Guy Who leaves or Break? I haven't heard her be that loud in years.
I heard this on TV when she did a show for the opening for the NHL. I thought alright, Canadian, I understrand...then this came out I thought wow, this is really really good.
She is BRILLIANT her lyrics pure poetry FLAWLESS VOCALS LIVE! Went to her show in Seattle 2 weeks ago. So much energy and passion inside her. One of the best and most unique artists ever in my opinion.
Hmm.. this is a very different Alanis - the style reminds me of some of her stuff from the 80's (which was good) mixed with Evanescence. I'm sure there are some people that this song will connect with, but ultimately i think this song will be one of the less memorable parts of her repertoire.
Really? It doens't remind me of her past music at all (wich wasn't good.- too happy frilly and superficial.) and to me it just seems brooding until that chorus that's killer.
these versions of violence! sumtimes subtle, sumtimes clear! and the ones tht go unnoticed, still leave their mark onc disappeared! amzing song i luuv her i hav all her albums and kno like all the lyrics shes just such a poet, go 2 her website look at the lyrics their amzing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:)
you should buy her new album that this come's from it's like 17 tracks and all of them are excellent. Have you heard "The Guy Who Leaves" or "Citizen of the Planet"
Alanis Morissette like I never knew her!! Unbelievable!! This rocks the hell out of everything!! It's such a great song! I'd even dare say the best... A chorus completely mesmerizing and a voice, as usual, that enthralls me ... completely. Many many thanks
This will definately be a single, but probably not for a few months. After "Underneath", her next single will be "Incomplete", and after that I think "Giggling Again For No Reason" would be a good song to release in the summer. I want this song to be the fourth single from this album, and I want "Torch" to be the fifth.
True -- only if she releases 'Incomplete' next. That song does not appeal to the masses. Versions of Violence, Straitjacket and Giggling will. Even Tapes.
You seriously think this record will have 5 singles? Her last 2 only had two each, and Underneath got even less airplay than Everything did. I'm surprised we're even getting a 2nd single.
Under Rug Swept had only 2 official, international singles. But it had a bunch of country-specific promotional singles. "so Unsexy", "21 Things I Want In A Lover" and "Flinch" were released in Brazil. "Surrendering" was released in Canada, and "Utopia" was released in the US.
So-Called Chaos had three official singles: Everything, Out Is Through & Eight Easy Steps. In addition, "Excuses" was released as a promotional single in Brazil.
Why is everyone so pessimistic about Alanis' success?
If she's only going to have about three singles, she can still have five if she splits them by region. She can release "Incomplete" in North America and Australia and "Giggling Again For No Reason" in Europe and Asia. She can release "Versions Of Violence" in North America and Australia and release "Tapes" in Europe and Asia.
yeah.. i love this stuff with these and her intstrumentals alot better than her soft guitar stuff GO GO GO awsome song. better than alot of other women's artists
Really do we have to classify artist based on gender? While I very much agree that Alanis is a pennacle in talent- you can't discredit the other great ones out there- Fiona Apple, Ani Difranco, Tori Amos, Brian Molko, ect.
yes i classify an artist based on gender because gender usually classifys itself when it comes to music. I did not specify the comment, it was more of a compliment than something for another person to critique, in my mind i meant she was better sounding to me than the most other female's in bands and what not, not comparing anything to males because of course their voices are much deeper, if it is music it is by sound and gender has a definite roll unlike painting, where it would be bias to say
females are more vocally capable then men are. females such as mariah carey, whitney houston, jessica simpsons, sarah brightman, etc... have a power behind their voice that is able to transcend emotion. plus generally speaking females are able to put more emotion into their singing because, well females are more emotional than men. so yes, women are better singers than men. mariah carey is THE most talented singer on the planet.
OMFG, i can't believe that you seriously believe that Jessica Simpson is anything but just another pretty face... Mariah Carey?? Please don't joke me around... Poor thing, I really hope you start listening to really good artists like...huh...I don't know...ALANIS MORISSETTE!!!
i agree... i'm not really sure about incomplete.. it seems like a vast difference from this song and COP.. but unlike this, incomplete and sorry to say even straight jacket.. it sounds a little flat.. but this album for sure is an interesting one.. so much variations to the style and tune..
