  • Id kill for that box behind my motor..

  • since when has willowbank had green grass

  • @see4el9 must have been after a flood

  • @tonoavayl No series runs ovals in the rain.

  • he certainly loves to fishtale pinging in 2nd gear

  • sounds awesome!

  • @wha65 Actually the Commodore was sold as a Pontiac G8 GXP in the US.

  • @roguelead72 go the mighty VE :D

Us Aussies, we love our rear wheel drive v8's dont we :D

  • @angusholden Yeah, now I read GM's thinking of bringing the Holden back to the US as a Chevy now, I'm already drooling.

  • @roguelead72 actually all G8s were pretty much Commodores not just the GXP

  • @stangnutlx hmmmm Dale Jr. is considered the best restrictor plate drive in nascar. and restrictor plate driving shows the true talent in my book. he isnt the best in nascar but hes a damn good driver. considering hes a 5 time talladega winner, a daytona 500 winner and has came close to winning a couple championships

  • Lets see what he will do with this thing when it comes out in iRacing. ;)

  • dale jr is the man, he was talking about this at michigan in 08

  • If I was a racing driver, I would try and jump in every car i had the chance to. Im sure dale is the same.

I dont see why this must mean he'll ditch the 88 car for V8s

  • yah lol

  • bahahaha fat chance

  • wow i wonder how other nascar folks would have done at driving a v8 supercar

right hand drive seems like a challinge for dale jr lol

  • They drive very similar to cup cars. Very tail happy and heavy. Makes for quite a fun ride.

  • honestly a real driver should be able to drive in a varity of conditions with different cars and still do well so id like to see alot more drivers jump between f1 nascar and v8supercars

  • Yeah bud they are exactly the same cars you can buy from the dealership, just stripped right down and then have a custom made race engine dropped in.

  • if your referring to v8supercars sorry to bust your bubble mate but they are not the only thing they ( V8 supercars) share with the road cars is the panels that is it everything else including the chasis/ rollcage is built inhouse

  • incorrect.

they are supplied clean Chasis/Body by Ford/Holden.

  • research it champ!!!!!

  • It would be great if Nascar took some pointers from the Aussie V-8 cars. Instead the cars look identical, race too many ovals with VERY similar layouts, and look nothing like the car you could buy at a dealership. How cool would it be to have the V-8's come to Daytona and run the 3.5MI road course during Nascar speedweeks, they would get lots of attention. We have plenty of great road circuits here in the US, I wish they would use more than TWO!

Nice to see JR trying out something different!

  • The V8s could be part of the Nascar show at Watkins Glen, just before the Sprint Cup race on the same day. Better still, Marcos Ambrose could drive in both races. However, there would be problems logisticaly for the 2 series. Lack of pit space for both races, marshalls, race control centre, different ways of refueling, V8s race in rain or sunshine.

Best scenario would be the V8s have their own day at the Glen. But financialy and fear of an outsider coming to town, might be too much for Nascar.

  • @wha65 actually the Nationwide Series runs at the Glen the same weekend as the Cup guys do. Nationwide also runs 3 road courses not 2(Watkins Glen, Road America, and Circuit De Giles Villenueve)

  • @roguelead72 Yeah your spot on. I forgot about Road America.

Marcos Ambrose part owns this Training Centre for young aussie racers.

The car that Jr is driving is not full race set up and the V8 only puts out 450hp.

In race trim a V8 Supercar engine is a small block Ford or Chev 5ltr with 650hp. Their electronically limited to 7,500 rpm. I'd love to see how they would handle around Talladega or Daytona straight out of the box. lol...

  • @wha65 I dunno mate, I think that is Paul Morris's actual series car from 2007. It sounds exactly like a V8 Supercar, not one of those half arse road cars that people think are the real thing. I watched an incar shot of Paul Morris taking his girlfriend around the Townsville circuit in the Love machine Commodore which is the PMM built Sirromet VE, and this thing looks and sounds exactly the same from the inside. Keep in mind the V8 Supercars were using the H pattern gearboxes back in 2007.

  • It's good to see that you people are taking an interest in V8 Supercars. I've always maintained that we should be going over to America to race, because like you say you have some really great road circuits over there. I'd love to see a V8 Supercar on Laguna Seca.

  • @19escort73 hell i'd love to see nascar on laguna seca or barbers and if V8 supercars ever came to the US i'd take my hillbilly ass to go see that race in a second.

  • @dash662 Well apparently they've just signed a deal for the V8 Supercars to race in Texas in 2013. By that stage the teams will be using the new "car of the future" design, so the cars will be slightly different to what are now, but the atmosphere and the noise will hopefully be the same ;)

  • Jr seems very comfortable in the right side driver position in the V8's. And apart from crunching some changes at 1:21, he is smooth with his shifts. I'm impressed!!! When Boris Said drove at Bathurst last year, he admitted to having a hard time adapting from left to right and his shifts. He said he had never driven right side ever in his career!!!

  • Shouldn't matter now, as its sequential shift?

  • So even though i love supercars, I can appreciate nascar for what it is, bare knuckle racing on the limit

  • Im an aussie and i understand the demands of nascar. The cars have more horse power then v8 supercars, the engine is on the rev limit for most of the race which happens to be the same length as bathurst every week end for over double the rounds of the v8 supercars, the cars are loose and so you have to fight to keep it straight and they do run on race tracks called road courses which have left and right corners like Watkins Glen.

  • not like a nascar driver to able to use 6 gears and go around corners

  • Damn easy for him nice, but everyone whos knows racing knows nascar drivers are capable of circuit not just turn left and mash the pedal lol, they get paid a stack load of cash to race nascar.

  • Yeah, Dale Jr can drive anything with wheels really.

  • prtty sure that he would know how to drive a 6 shift lol. Nascar is Alot harder than you think man

  • okay people I know these things i was just joking. And its actually a 6 speed dog box with a triple plated clutch which not just anyone knows how to drive and yes they do have a lot of skill but some of them still manage to fuck it up on a oval circuit

  • the bump on turn 2 got him at 1:12, its couldnt be in a worse spot.

  • nice spotting

  • Looks like he doesn't need to use the clutch on the upshift, how about the downshift? That engine sounds wicked! I didn't know that Jr. could drive on anything but an oval, bravo!

  • No need for clutch as it is an unsychronised straight cut racing gearbox. Looks like he ain't clutching on the down either which isn't necessary but most drivers do use it. A few like Richards and Murphy are left foot brakers so they never clutch. FWIW, the upshift can be done with the throttle flat to the floor as there is an ignition cut switch which allows the transmission to be 'unloaded' so a shift can be made.

  • Damn if that's really Dale he just earned a lot more of my respect!

  • yes thats really Dale Jr he posted this video on the dmp forum a few months ago..

  • jnr is a very good road racer, and i reckon he will be very competitive. It would have been good though to have got his dad to run against Brocky at Bathurst or something before they both died

  • Im pretty sure this was the car ashley cooper was killed in, r.i.p. ahsley. jnr done very well, wouldlike to see more nascar and ex f1 drivers have a go at this

  • I've driven a V8 on that track but only on those pay to drive type days. The ones I drove were so easy to drive. The only hard bit was the steering felt pretty heavy.

  • Hey,

i have always wanted to do that. do you think it is worth it?

  • You bet it's worth it! Check out my vid...

  • Absolutely yes it is worth it!! I've done a couple now, they are awesome.

  • well wps he is an earnhardt, watch would you expect

  • wow he did really well!! considering 1st time at ipswich and 1st time in a v8!!! looked smooth and very capable - did u guys hear that Boris Said will drive in the other supercheap car this yr at PI and Bathurst!!!! will be awesome.

  • You think the usa press

    would of talked about this

with him being the most popular

    driver.

  • Queensland RaceWay, Awesome track for Close racing......

  • V8 supercars are awesome, way better than NASCAR which only turn left

  • That is a pretty ignorant statement. Nascar currently runs 4 road courses and will add more next season.

  • but thats only 4 =(

  • i doubt so ... those cars look awesome turning left and righ, but just arent the american phylosophy

  • Awesome! I would love to drive one of those cars. I am so jealous... LOL

  • Gee at 1:21 Dale looks like he over-revved the downshift that time :S but all good!! PMMS Engine sounds nice..Can't wait to See hoy Rusty goes this year..

  • Yeah I saw that and said "Oh...little too soon into 3rd Junebug..."

  • Yeah but he knew it and pulled it back to 4th... It looks like he did alright anyway.

  • ok road course master
