*Love* the spins, but in her early years (esp. 91-92) I found her very OTT, like a hyper six-year-old who'd overdosed on E numbers and run riot with mummy's make-up bag. Her style matured a lot over the next couple of seasons.
I do like Nathalie Krieg better than Lucinda Ruh. Lucinda may be a better spinner, but she is so boring. Overall, had Krieg's consistency been completely spotless, she would have been Queen of the Ice and have the reigning title above that of Tonya Harding, including the long denied olympic gold!
I wonder why the skaters that excel so much at spins,,,Krieg and Lucindah Ruh, struggle so much on jumps......and skaters that are incredible with jumps....Plushenko and Ilia Kulik, at times struggled a lot with their spins?
Also, would be nice to know what the swiss put in their water! Krieg, Ruh, Lambiel...the list goes on and on...swiss skaters have typically been way above average with their spinning ability.
I remember reading once (anyone please correct me!) that the problem was skating facilities were so lacking, Nathalie rarely got a full rink to practice - therefore, it was the spins that got so much attention as there was less space required than for the jumps :( If true, sad really...there was something very charming about this skater, and there was clearly potential for greater things :)
@JP852 You are correct, when learning skating she had to share ice with hockey players who kept forcing her into a smaller and smaller patch of ice. There was no room for jump preparation, just spins.
are my eyes just playing tricks on me or did her beillman at 2.33 speed up??? A wasted talent if you ask me...i think if she was skating nowadays with all the expertise there is out there to get the jumps working she'd have been a champion!
