  • This game needs a port to the xbox or ps3, it'd be awesome to play it again.

  • Incredible tunes. This game is a pure 40 minute rush!!!!

  • ....wait a minute. Why is the best song in the game, the music from the final level, not in this video?

  • I want that last 5 second riff as a ringtone

  • not to mention this game has been remade 600 different times

  • @mr977ism wut!?

  • one minute in ... "some stay dry while others feel the pain some stay dry while others feel the pain some stay dry while others feel the pain..."

  • where the hell is the first boss theme!!!?

  • Chocolate raiiin, some stay dry and others feel the pain.

Chocolate raiiin, a newborn baby dies before the sin.

  • The music reminds me of mega man x

  • incomplete..............

  • IT'S CHOCOLATE RAIN!!!!!!

  • the music notes and signals tell me where i go to shoot my foes into oblivion. its engraved into my heart. remember i plugged in controller 2 while my dad played but i thought i was helping haha...ya i was like pre-preschool ha

  • Between this game, Street Fighter II, and the Mega Man X series... Capcom was the best developer by far back then. Even better than Nintendo imo.

  • Most of my friends haven't heard of this game, and I have to tell them how great it is.

One of my all time top 10, and I think the music was a huge factor. Epic electronic... almost heavy metal. Hard to describe.

  • Pro player vs the submarine lol.

Thanks for this remember memories, liked :)

  • Anyone know the name of the songs at 3:20 and 6:15? I want to listen to them more.

  • in-game sounds like chocolate rain

  • i fuking looved this game so much!!! awesome!! my childhood!!! REBORN

  • only a madman would take on this mission...

    lucky they found me!!!!

  • I still play this game weekly.

  • khinsider,com soundtracks

  • I played this game from beginning to end at least 10 times just to listen to the music. This game's soundtrack is awesome.

  • Chocolate Rain!

  • Oh man the good times I had playing this

  • Chocolate Rain ftw!

  • Use to love playing this game as a kid got the Rom for it now adays :D played it about a year ago still a tough game and that last battle took ages to do lol

  • i love the last stage's music

  • 4:50 is where its at!

    -X-

  • IT'S CHOCOLATE RAIN!!

  • greg gates went to my high school he was always a crazy guy with a heart of steel, good to see he made it famous

  • yea this game was one of the best shooters for super nintendo in its time. i remember playing it in highschool.

  • The stage selection music still gives me goosebumps. Probably my fave sidescrolling shooter of all time. I can still play it.

  • you can download the snes/MAME emulator and play this game in full, its the bomb

  • I loved this game! :)

  • @jbecker8082

I have the same exact story. It was less frustrating just to watch dad play. I also remember turning it on and just listening to the soundtrack.

  • I found a copy of this game for $3 at Half Price Books. Man, what a steal! Some of the most epic SNES music EVER!

  • my fav arcade game ever

  • @nintygaming It's not about what the hardware is, just how you use it. Go look at some C64 demos if you don't believe me. The SNES sound great when used right, and so did the Genesis.

  • Comment removed

  • @nintygaming Yes, that is precisely what I'm saying.

  • try the gamer dificulty it's just awesome.

  • Lol, Chocolate Rain

  • @nevarezga try the extra hard mode. To activate it you must press select + x while hiting left on the d-pad (or was it right?) anywho, try it out... it blows one's mind

  • One of the best soundtracks to the older games.

  • Must... Make This... MY RINGTONE!!!

  • Nice!! Good job!!

  • Best Game Ever.

  • i remember playing this, i absolutely LOVED the game. i would spend hours playing it at home while every other kid was playing their stupid xbox or ps2. (btw it was already 21st century)

  • I hear ya bro.

I was still playing N64 in 2004 and that was the year I got a PS2. Though, I barely play my PS2...However, I still play the older game systems, SNES/NES/Sega Genesis than these newer systems. After PSX/N64/Dreamcast/Saturn, the spark of video games just died out. Now, gaming is all about graphics and people talking sh*t on PSN or XBLA. It is worth mentioning, the horrendous Xbox and PlayStation fanboys which makes the gaming scene bad.

    -kidThunder

  • I'm glad ur not the only one....I still play my NES, SNES, Genesis, and PS1 more than the recent game systems. Don't get me wrong, the new systems are good, but nothing will ever beat the classics.

  • I agree. After 3 dimensions hit video gaming, the video game cult following died down drastically. There's a reason The NES sold 61 million copies, and then the super nintendo sold just under 50 million, N64 at 30 million, the gamecube at 21 million.

  • Yep. But it's worth mentioning, some of us who played video games for a while are starting to miss 2D gaming because that was when the good times of gaming were.

    -kidThunder

  • @kibjohn I tottaly agree, I used to play alot of these old games and I still think they are the best of todays games, now everything is about graphics and sales not about bringing pleasure to the ones that are playing

  • So Many Memories!

  • OH MY GOD.

the music, I can't get it out of my head.. the awesomeness is too much for my brain! ^^

  • @WaffleKogen

    shut up

  • stick a cock in it waffle

  • I haven't played the game myself, but I'm surprised to see the hate for the game. I know ScrewAttack are huge fans of it.

  • Please, can you upload this soundtrack somewhere and link to it?

  • 6 30

fucking bad ass jazzed up song

  • Da fuckin' best!

  • best... game... music.... ever...

  • 3:30, that's the song that does it for me

  • Nice one yeah!

  • after the first five seconds of the intro music, you immediately know that this game is totaly badass!

  • Second favorite game of all time. Possibly favorite music.

  • if they put a remake of this game on wiiware that would be awesome

  • @shroyuken

I don't think the Wii is capable of handling such awesomeness.

  • hey, if the wii can handle brawl i think it is so up to the challenge for a remake of this game.

  • @Keen8000 there hasn't been a decent dogfighting game years.

  • Best music in a game! The world will never see music like this again!

  • A Classic!

When Idie i want to be buried with my UN Squadron snes cartridge .

  • lol this game was the shit back in the day. but up until recently i used to think shin was a chick haha!^_^ does anyone remember the second one where you can fly an f-18 in blue angels insignia?

  • WAS the shit?

  • This game kicked ass!

I really should get to LPing it soon. :)

  • lol, im playing this game on my Emu computer right now, best song is the select song, i like to play it on guitar when im bored

  • and add sound tracks who dosent love that

  • Capcom has to remake this game

they dint have to add anything

    *mabe PvP player vs player*

other than that they dont half to add any else this game is truly EPIC

    thing

  • I. Love. This. Game.

  • biggest stealth bomber i ever saw

  • this rocks!

  • lol as a kid i could get to the end with out dying but i played it recently and strugled getting passed the 2nd level.... oh dear

  • I love the music in this game so much...I actually think I can say with confidence that this is some of the best music in video game history. It's absolutely epic!

  • In my opinion this game has the best music on any game on the SNES, it creates the tension and the atmosphere, as well as putting the pressure on when the bosses slide into view. Best tune is possibly vs. MINKS on the sea level.

  • street fighter 2 - megaman - un squadron have the best soundtracks of snes

  • DKC.....

  • Dont forget Zelda 3, Super Mario World and Star Fox.

  • i would play the first level so i could hear the music. that was stuck in my head all the time.. great memories

  • omg doesnt that sound like Chocolate Rain?

  • This game had an AWESOME soundtrack. I think that "Chocolate Rain" was inspired by the map screen.

  • Stage 1 not map screen i think?

  • Yeah, the map screen.

  • Nah stage 1

  • The Chocolate Rain-sounding song is the Map Screen in the actual game.

  • It's stage 1 in the video, but the map screen in the actual game. The stage one music is shown at stage 2 in the video.

  • Did he just forgot the Battleship song O.o, the greatest in my opinion

  • ah, area 88 that airbase of theirs was always doomed

at least that's where they took the design from, There was this fun lop at the end where the supply trucks would loop, so you could stack up on more and more cash

  • i don't know why this soundtrack isn't more famous, it rivals some incredible and widely recognized soundtracks like megaman x and super mario world

  • Area 88/UN Squadron has one of the best game soundtracks ever.

  • This game brings so many different emotions to me... I remember when I was very young (like 7) and me and my Dad went to the store and bought this game for my grandfather since he was in his last days fighting colon cancer. Me, my Dad, and my Grandfather would play this together and swap controllers and have a blast. My Grandfather served in the air force so we figured he would love this game, and he did. He lost the fight against cancer 2 months later, but my memories playing this with him live

  • I agree this game rocked hard and sorry about your grandfather

  • @JokinJoe Its Awesome you have Good Memories of his last days!

  • @JokinJoe My Dad and I used to play this...Memories man..memories..

  • @JokinJoe thats beautiful ;)

  • Damn good shooter by capcom.Funny when i played it in the arcades and snes i didn't know then it was based off a manga/anime wich was area 88.

So much so i had to check out the area 88 ova a while ago.Good stuff there to bad capcom couldn't have made another or have it on the wii vc.

  • I loved this game when I was a kid. I remembered buying this shortly after landing my first part-time job. I also remembered how disappointed I was in Gradius 3 when it was released for the SNES after playing U.N. Squadron. U.N. Squadron, Contra 3, Axelay and Castlevania 4 were my favorite side scrollers for the Super NES.

  • Thanks Garudoh for the add! This was the one and only game in Super Nintedo. Man I loved it!

  • Best game on SNES.. Even thought the farrest i got was second last lvl..the one with the robot hanging on the wall, andshooting fire..

  • Comment removed

  • :O chocolate rain

  • Oh man, first thing I heard, too.

  • this game rocked my childhood!!! wish it was on wii like BincePK said. 5/5!

  • Why isn't this available for Virtual console on the Wii? I'd grab it without a second thought. It had good music, a decent shoot-em-up and was fun to play.

  • Oh man this brings me back memories!

-One of my first snes games I ever got!

  • omg same here haha

one of the greatest games ever made

  • god this game is awesome

  • my mistake, stage 9 music was best!!

  • the music to the final stage was best! but the whole thing is amazing, i wish i could get hold of it on cd or mp3!

this has got to be up there with streets of rage 2 to have the best game!

  • Is this related to the Anime series called 'Area 88?'

  • This game is known as Area 88 in Japan, so I'll say yes. Don't know which came first though.

  • @fhishgomoo

First, there was the manga named Area 88, which were made between 1979 and 1986. Then, between 1985 and '86, three OVA's based on the manga were released. Even later, in 1989, an arcade game named Area 88 was made, which was ported onto the Super Nintendo in 1991.

And last, but not least, the anime series named Area 88 was made.

  • @fhishgomoo And they recently remade Area88 And it looks great :^^

  • The music in this game is pure 16 bit goodness in all its glory.

All i can is that this music is freakin epic.

    Good times indeed!

  • I listen to this shit before I eat, run, fuck, etc. haha

  • Wow guys stop bitching.

  • this game and music hav accomplished my life

  • Thanks! :) This game has to be one of the best games ever made! :) I hope they will put it op on the wii shop! Music alone is/was nothing short of brilliant!

  • capcom made kickass music back in the day. my favorite games are from capcom

  • I agree with cookieda 1. Thank You

  • omg!!dis game is legend!!! i dnt care wat ne 1 says but da snes is classic!! dis game brings bak memories!!:D

  • tay zonday def. got "chocalate rain" from this

  • Cool game! Different than the arcade version, but Capcom made this one better than the arcade version.

  • Best game involing aircrafts

  • I love the openening theme; it defines epic. When you pop in this game and hear it makes you want to kick ass.

  • Yeah, except 1942 sucked ass and UN Squadron was ten times better!

  • I love this game and the music, one of my fav's thanks for putting this up. Epic!!

  • The music at 1:27 sounds like chocolate rain just way uptempo.

  • Yah it does..

  • lol it should, Tay Zonday got a little inspiration from this i think.

  • its amazing that no one realizes that this 1942 and 1943 grandchild..Lets go Area 88!!!!!

  • This music was awesomeness...

  • The only good tune in the game was Frontline Base...

  • possibly one of the best games and game soundtrack ever!!!

  • Tracks used

    intro

    frontline base

    forest

    2nd boss mix (forest fortress)

    desert

    outro

  • Best 2-d shooter ever.

  • BEST MUSIC EVER

  • Why isn't music this good in games anymore?

Games aren't the same, the ones that sell the most are just 'Hollywood' cop-outs that try being like movies too much.

  • the snes version was way more fun than the arcade version even though it lacked multiplayer.

  • ....can you send me this music somehow?

  • greg gates is the best btw

  • The forest fortress boss music is so good! It is cool b/c it is foreboding... kinda like the last level's music

  • when the music came on i came in my pants i played this game so long ago at my friends house i miss it

  • this game is straight awesomeness!!! i still play this game with joy, man. the most stellar soundtrack ever! y can't games be this awesome anymore?

  • One of my favorite games period. Thanks.

  • 1:27 - 1:54 sounds like "chocolate rain"!... nevertheless this game was incredible!.

  • Tay Zonday ass jacked U.N. Squadron!

  • i love this game, soo CLASSIC!!!

  • Greatest THEME SONG EVER

  • Terrific game, btw theres an Anime about this called Area 88.

  • the one at 8:05 is the best

  • Wow I was 11 when this game came out... some of the best music ever on SNES. Thanks for helping me relive some great childhood memories!

It would be awesome if you posted an MP3 of this somewhere and gave a download link.

  • Check out the intro video on my channel, it has the links you're looking for.

  • God I love this music - some of the best music I've heard on the SNES.

U.N. Squadron also had some really good SFX, too - like the sound when you drop a standard Bomb or fire off a Bullpup, etc.

Smooth, intense and challenging gameplay, slick graphics/animations, and a wicked soundtrack... never understood why this game is so underrated.
