The part Gertrude asks Hamlet what is he looking at is just... wow...
It's amazingly done with the music, Kenneth's tone and expression and everything... It's emphasizes this as one of the scenes in the play where Hamlet's fake and put-up madness is somewhat actual madness.
Awh! He just seems so small and fragile when he's seeing his father. I just wanna give him hugs and tell him it's okay. Just - just such a perfect actor. And I'm going to marry his voice.
The agonized way he calls out "My FATHER!" as the Ghost sadly turns away, it's what convinced me that Kenneth Branagh is one of the greatest British actors alive today.
@SpiderXxPirate I see what your sayin, but honestly, me personally, I think he's ACTING crazy. We really can't be sure, there's a lot in this play that no one is COMPLETELY sure of
im studying hamlet for my final exams in school....finally i find a performance which is exactly like i imagined it! this is my favourite scene of the whole play!
Finally- an interpretation without the incestuous implications! Still, Hamlet doesn't look disgusted with her enough. He considers her an incestuous nympho- she has coloured Hamlet's perception of women. Whilst I can understand that he might be more forgiving because she's his mother, there isn't enough disgust there. They should've made more of the scene.
Branagh IS Hamlet: his performance had the complexity of the real life's emotions. That 's why every time I watch his Hamlet it seems to me the first time...
King Hamlet: UUUUSEEE THE FORCCEEE HAMLET
Hamlet: Yes father...
Gertrude: WTF is going ON?!

Alas, poor Hamlet, I knew him, Youtube. A fellow of infinite jackassery.

1:35-2:20 = Beautiful... The music in the background with Branagh's face and voice, and the editing... all lines up beautifully. This scene is great!

Wish he had lowered his vocalizing a bit. He sounded too twiity and weak here.

Am I the only one who gets teary eyed when Gertrude asks what Hamlet is looking at, then he starts to explain he sees his father??

Thank you! you may want to consider renaming this and the other video, as they are nearly impossible to find, searching for Act III Scene IV.

I'm pretty sure "Psycho" got its lines from this play. Creepily perfect.

I like how the father smiles and looks more alive when hamlet points at him and speaks of him.
